2019-2020 UC Riverside

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OOS here, 513 MCAT, 3.96 sGPA, 3.52 GPA (based on courses taken 10 years ago in Poland, transferred to a US university), 4.0 diy post-bac in the US. Good ECs.

Verified on Aug 5th. Never heard back from UCR. No app received, no secondary... null, zilt, nada... Any idea what's going on?

Those are amazing stats, congrats! But I gotta say that UCR is one of the UC's that's not so friendly to OOS given their small class size of about 70. They are also very mission-based. They want to accept students who will primarily stay in the Inland Empire (IE) where there is a great shortage of primary care physicians. As such, they prioritize students who are from the IE or have significant ties. They also look at whether you have demonstrated extensive service to underserved populations.

Hope this gives you better insight, but its only one school out of 179 lol. Good luck this cycle, I'm sure you will get in somewhere!!

Oh. Oops... Oh well... I guess not Inland Empire life for me then 🙂

Yeah, if you look at their stats, they're 100% in-state. Be thankful you didn't get get a secondary and be allowed to pay.

Looking for advice. For the first prompt of the secondary did you focus on your diversity or working with the underserved? I would do both but 500 characters is so little :/

You can also write about your diversity and how that has helped you in serving the underserved.

Thank you! I'll try to work it all in haha

You’re welcome. I know it could be tough with the number of characters they gave you but you could just focus on one activity that really highlights how you’ve contributed, what you’ve learned and what you hope to achieve as a physician. No need to go in depth about the activity as you must have already detailed it in your primary. Good luck

Anyone else see this right now when trying to use the portal?

My deadline is also tomorrow. If the portal isn't up by then, we shouldn't get penalized for that right?

Does anyone else's status say "Your application is NOT ready" under Application Complete? It's been 24 hours since I submitted and I haven't received a completion email, although every other category is complete and the submission went through.

Got an email for admissions. They said that your app is incomplete until the committee reviews your app

So I realize they ask us to complete within two weeks but my recs are still not in... am I screwed?

Just a quick question. If anyone already answered sorry for not being able to find it within the thread.

For required premed course inventory, did you guys list all the courses you took or just a few courses to meet the requirement?

Those who submitted their secondaries before August, when did you receive your "review email"?

is the consensus that missing the deadline means that you shouldn't bother to submit the secondary anymore?

I got the complete email that said it will still show up as incomplete until the committee reviews it.
However, everything is checked complete. Maybe ADCOM reviewed already? Anybody else have everything green now?

I just checked and mine is all green now too...

Yup! They said in their email it will get checked off in the portal once the review of your application is complete

So if it’s green and we don’t hear anything, then thats probably bad news?
I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. It could be that they send II’s in waves and are just holding off on decisions until the first wave.

I don’t think so necessarily! It just might mean they finished “scoring” your application if this school does scoring and then once they compare a pile of scored applications then they’ll send out IIs but I don’t think it’s an auto reject or anything like that if you don’t hear something right away after being completed in review. Wouldn’t worry about it too much 🙂
