Would y’all say it’s worth taking PTO to attend the optional friday activities? Did you find that learning more about the school helped you during your interviews the following day?

I think it was a great thing to familiarize myself with the school, their attitude, and the mission values. It made my interviews less anxiety filled. I was asked where else I was applying, so this was a good place for me to give a vague answer but reiterate why I have a strong interest in their school. This is honestly my top choice and it would be an absolute dream to prematch here.

I also thought the interview dinner was absolutely awesome, but to answer your question I don't think you should use PTO unless you have a lot of it.

Tysm for the input!! I have a decent amount of PTO and I’m willing to use it if the experience is really worthwhile, but I’m also trying to save my PTO for future interviews. If anyone else is willing to share a similar (or dissimilar!) experience, it would be mucho appreciated 🙂

I used mine for my interview here since I rationalized that every other interview would require using time off anyway. I thought the Friday program was very worthwhile but plenty of people get in without attending it. I think it's a personal choice between how much you have saved up, how many interviews you anticipate attending, and how interested you are in learning the most you can about UTSW!

I’m aware that I’m probably asking the blind to lead the blind (lol) but I was wondering if anyone knows with the new oct 15 prematch day, is a 11/16 interview date considered late for UTSW? I’m ecstatic about having an interview at anytime but I was just wondering if anyone thought it might be beneficial for me to be kind of watch the portal to see if earlier days open up (also considering that I could lose my Friday rounds RSVP if I get an earlier date somehow from a cancelation or something)

UTSW is a fairly pre-match heavy school (around 10% of the class I think?) but because of the match system the interview date does not matter. Also, they start sending pre-match offers after Oct 15 through until before Match Day I believe, so even those are rolling. I would just relax about it, no need to stress.

Almost right, pre-match offer window is October 15 to December 31.

I would disagree. The percentage that come from pre-match is way higher than 10%. I would say it's closer to 50% (keeping in mind that prematch isn't just the first day of prematch, but the entire window). I know plenty of people that got in with later interview dates, even the very last date, but I also know that from my interview date in early September, I don't remember meeting a single person that wasn't eventually accepted to UTSW. But it's hard to say if it's the actual date that matters, or just that the strongest applicants tend to interview earlier in the season.

This is about right. They admit a lot of people from early interviews. The admission chances for interviewees after the prematch drop quite a bit.

Has UTSW already started accepting people? Isn't it way too early?

+1 ?

It looks like that's the result of a match, so this is probably someone else's match screenshot she's using, or she's posting this stuff way after she got in.
P sure it's like against TMDSAS policy for any sort of formal acceptance to be given before oct 15 aside from ED stuff

Good for them. It is a very good program for economically disadvantaged in Texas.

Yea I met a student who was from rural Texas, and she really wanted to be an obgyn and take care of her home community. This program is much needed and seems to work well.

This might be an obvious answer, but do you know the likelihood of those who interview after prematch day to get accepted during prematch? Although I got a II invite in July, the earliest available date was late October.

If someone told you 20, 30, 50 % would it have any effect on your efforts? It doesn’t matter. Go out there and let them see you in person and express your interest and your good qualities !

thats my tweet! And yes, I matched early through the JAMP program so that's most definitely real. I had one of my summer internships there so that's why I have that photo in my white coat. Let's be mindful when jumping to conclusions, shall we?

hope to see y'all next year, and pm me if you have any questions about the program or the school!

if this is the only texas school i interviewed at do i need to fill out a prematch ranking list? or do i just wait for a decision by SW? (im OOS)

OOS applicants don’t run through the match system. You will see an offer of admission via email or on the portal, any time after Oct 15. There may be a long period of silence!

thanks! so OOS dont run through the match system, even if we applied via TMDSAS?

Is the deadline to for their secondary on Oct 1st 11:59 PM? Or Oct 1st 12:01 AM?

Thank you! OOS can still recieve rejects/acceptances on oct 15 correct?
Starting then. But Texas schools don’t do a lot of rejection announcements. Your application usually rides on, until you either know you haven’t had an interview before their last date, or later until the season is over.

With prematch starting at Oct 15th this year, does a Nov 23rd interview seem too late for a shot at prematch?

Does anyone have any insight on if it would help or hurt to send an extra letter of rec at this point? I was complete early August and only submitted a HP committee letter, but I now have a letter from a physician/research advisor (who’s not a part of my committee) that I could add as an extra letter. Might not matter either way at this point, but just curious to see what people think.

I dont think it will hurt to send that letter to TMDSAS if you feel that letter is strong.

Deadline for supplemental materials like letters is Oct 15 though, so it would have to be quick

It is a strong one which is why I’m considering it despite it being late in the process. And it’s already written so should be a quick submission. Thanks for the input!

Looking through the thread, it doesn't seem like there are a ton of Group 2 interviews.

As someone who has a significantly higher MCAT than Southwestern's median but missed the GPA cut off for the auto interviews by <0.05 (judging from estimates), I'm a little sad.

My question is how many of you guys who have II's aren't the auto-interviews (estimate i think is 3.8/517). Really wanted to go here.

I’m way below your estimate but I’m URM.

I am in a similar boat. UTSW was my dream school... I have almost given up hope because it seems like they are at the end of their interview invites.

Must have been something in my application that they didn't like but I'm born and raised in Dallas, secondary completed early, URM, GPA-3.93, and MCAT-515. I even have a letter of rec from one of their faculty...

Anyone know if they are receptive to updates or letters of interest? Is worth emailing them? I have called before, but they just seemed annoyed.

UTSW is not one of those schools that wants "love letters" and updates from its applicants. Your application, which should have been well written and not rushed, is the "representation of you" until and unless you have the chance to meet them in person at an interview.

Think of the "S" in UTSW as standing for "Sphinx-like" and you will have gotten it right!

so its ok to send a letter of interest after interviewing?

I dont think the letter would help. Adcoms need to be objective, and i do not think that your letter will make your chance higher

as an out of state applicant, wouldnt a letter further confirm my interest in the school

Its based on your merit, and every information that they want to make a decision is based on your application and your interview. Your letter wont necessary make you go from being waitlisted to accepted if your stats and your qualitites are not what they are looking for, unless the person that is more qualified decided not to attend and your next in the ranking list.

From UTSW website:

"I submitted my application. When will I hear something?
The Admissions Committee reviews and evaluates applications throughout the admissions season. It is not possible to tell you when you will hear from us. If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified by email. We will notify all applicants who are not selected for an interview only after the entire interview process has ended (mid-February)."

You are re-asking the same question hoping for a different answer.
The answer is, you wait.
They already interviewed you so they know all they need. They are still interviewing others so they haven't made their final decisions yet.
More emails from you will be seen as needy.
Return to your normal daily activities, as hard as this is.
