Ok... so does this mean they don't consider the MCAT at all when selecting people for interview invites??? So MCAT is blinded to the admissions committee? Or does this just mean that if you don't have an MCAT, they will still consider you for an interview. But if you have the MCAT they will look at it still??? Sorry for the silly question. Just a bit confused on if MCAT will be considered. (Because if MCAT is not considered, then I wont be submitting due to weak GPA. I need my MCAT to offset my GPA.)

This is from MSAR. I believe they are extending interviews to students with pending/not yet received MCAT scores BUT they will not extend an acceptance unless they have the score. I would say go ahead and apply as long as your score will get to them before the deadline!

I got my secondary on 7/27 (primary submitted 7/10)
Did you mean "Has anyone gotten II yet?"
No! I still have not received my secondary and I'm wondering if I should email them 🙁
EDIT: Primary also submitted 7/10

If you use Gmail - check in your "Promotions" tab. I believe that's where my Duke secondary email went. Then check spam folder. If still not there, try emailing them.

IT WAS IN MY SPAM FOLDER! They also sent me a reminder on August 3rd... that also went to spam. Whooops. :/

Time to grind.

Glad you were able to find it. Hope you had pre-written. However fyi, Duke did change some Qs and also changed from 500-400 in several.

for the critical thinking q, how detailed are people going in with the description of their research?
I want to provide background info on my projects, but it's starting to sound like my abstract lmao

For the race in healthcare question, does anyone know if we should stick to just race, or if we can talk about ethnicity too? Like should I focus mostly on physical characteristics instead of culture/language? (I also recognize that race includes culture/language, I think just that ethnicity focuses on those more)

I just submitted! I didn’t receive any email of payment confirmation though. At the top of the application it says “application screening” is that where most people are at?

"Application Screening - Your supplemental application has been completed. Your application is now being reviewed by a set of independent screeners on our admissions committee"
And "Your Current Application Progress: 100%" below it

Yes that is what I have! Thank you so much

Hi everyone I am struggling with the secondary. I don't know how to approach the "advocacy" prompt...The first thing that came to my mind was BLM but I feel like it is too political??? What topics did everyone use? I think I haven't really openly advocated for anyone : (

If you've done service then you've advocated for someone

Any time in which you've stood up for someone else.

Spent the last eight and a half hours writing the essay on the relationship between race and health and healthcare inequities!

But I've finally submitted my secondary application 😀

Okay so to confirm with everyone: no one received an email after payment or submission, only the "Application Screening" banner, right?

Yeah I didn’t receive a payment confirmation email or any email after I submitted. But they sure did take the money out of my bank account.

Thanks everyone! My spam folder is empty so I don't think I got any confirmation yet... might wait a couple days and then email them asking if they have everything.

Anyone know when we could expect IIs to come out from Duke? I know they started reviewing applications much later that other schools, Aug 14th according to MSAR, so should we expect invites to come out within the next couple of weeks?

Did you guys put your high school rank? My high school didn't do rankings, but I know what percentage I was - it's not letting me put a percent value though.
My school also did "top __%", so I just decided to not put down any rank on the app

I saw the date August 31st somewhere but I can't remember where. Maybe the MSAR advisor report?

Does anyone know how Duke is using the VITA (supplement to interview, before interview, etc) and if they have a deadline? I couldn't find anything on their website about it.

Hi Friends, I would appreciate any advice on the secondary essays.
I feel like "a humbling experience" and "failed experience" are kind of the same thing? These two prompts seem very similar to me and I am not sure how to approach them. What exactly is a humbling experience?
Thanks in advance.

You can be humbled without failing. The key difference is that failure requires having attempted something and not succeeded, whereas a humbling experience has no such requirement and usually focuses instead on how a experiences (for lack of a better phrase) knocked you off your high horse.

I also believe that failures can be humbling experiences, so it would be totally fine to just use another failure but instead of focusing on what you learned from the failure, focus on how it humbled you. Just my 2 cents lol

Yup, there is definitely overlap. I personally chose to write more broadly and briefly for the failures question, whereas I wrote at length about a specific failure/humbling experience for the humbling experience question.

For the humbling prompt, I wrote about my clinical experience with significantly disadvantaged patient populations and how its further developed my humanity for all. Not sure if this totally meets the prompt, but honestly everything else I considered felt too much like a failure prompt.

I did something similar, discussing my coming to terms with my powerlessness to significantly help in those moments, and how that will fuel me as I go forward.

Damn, now I feel like I should have switched my failure and humbling essays cause that description made me realize they might’ve been better flipped.... lol whoops

Has anyone found info on the PCLT program not shown on their website? (i.e. more competitive than traditional admissions, # of people they take, how popular it is, etc)

Is it worth me submitting this secondary as a reach school? 3.95/511 , a lot of clinical experience but little research, and a decent writer.

If you have the time/money and really like Duke, then I say go for it. To my knowledge, they haven't even started sending out interview invites yet. Worst they can say is no, right? lol

Making a late appearance into this thread but current Duke MS4 (man, the time really does fly) and am happy to answer any questions or talk about why I love Duke!
