2020-2021 Indiana

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They list supervisors, mentors, academic advisors, research assistants, etc. on their supplemental info form, so a PI would almost certainly work. I've heard of people getting accepted with subpar shadowing, but I wouldn't bank on it if possible.

Thanks! I’ll have to think about whether I want to send them my primary then. The two physicians I have shadowed add up to 80+ hours. I know it’s considered “sufficient” for most places but wasn’t sure about here.

I still haven’t received an email from indiana that my app was received? My app was transmitted on the first day and I got secondaries for all other schools by now. OOS/MD applicant.

I'd reach out to them. I received a "confirmation email" the same day I submitted my AMCAS app to them, and the next email was the II a week later. I'm also OOS/MD

What email did they send it from so I can check my inbox first just in case?

Many of us with competitive stats didn't receive a confirmation email from Indiana University, even if complete on the first day of the process. In all likelihood this was not done in error. I have resigned myself to not hearing from IU until later, if I even hear from them at all at this point.

LM: 72, OOS, received my primary confirmation the same day all the others received II’s

So I guess it’s completely random if you get the email lol

which is weird bc you would think that people verified early June would be getting the complete emails first

Maybe they decided to do it randomly considering the global pandemic and all to give people a chance

or maybe we got filtered out? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ thats why we apply to bunch of other places right

Yes, you can see earlier in this thread that I attempted to understand their logic on how and when applicants were receiving this confirmation email. At one point I just gave up and resigned myself to not being able to understand the process. I still understand that it is early in the process, but it sucks to see the school I attended for undergrad and considered a relatively safe #1 pick start to fade away.

Its not too late! Its still the beginning of August so who knows, besides there really aren’t any “safe” schools in this game lol

Been like three days now since I paid the grad school app fee and still no status change...How long before I should start panicking
I'm in the same boat. Doubt we'll hear anything until Monday at the earliest. At least we have the email that confirms submission... but just thinking about trying to prove that we paid over email is giving me a headache. It's the same thing with the Dean's eval.

My portal still does not recognize that I paid for the grad application...is this the same for everyone else with an II? Getting a little concerned since the instructions said it must be received within 7 days or else they'll rescind the invitation and the II was sent out 6 days ago :/

hey guys, im a bit confused about IU. i added them on AMCAS on Aug 1. on Aug 6th, i got this email:
"Indiana University School of Medicine Office of Admissions has received your AMCAS application. The Admissions Office will notify you of our decision via email once your application has been reviewed. We encourage applicants to check their email frequently."

first question: people are talking about portals. are those the people who got interviews?

second question: if that's correct ^ then how long did it take you guys to get IIs, from the date of receipt?

Yes, the graduate application is completed after you get your II. And I think it took me about a week or so after I got that email to get the II

I sent them an email around 10 this morning. Still waiting on a response. Seems like no one's portal has updated.

Okay, just got word back from IU. Apparently it takes on average 7 days from payment for the portal to update. Seems almost designed to get us to stress out, what with the '7 days or cancelled app' thing. :lame:

Anyone's dean Eval marked as received yet? And did anyone get a confirmation email when they sent in the virtual interview acknowledgment?

For those who haven't gotten any confirmation after submitting primary application, I just got an email from adcom saying "Once we download your application you will receive an email."

lol submitted July 10th with no confirmation of receipt.

No, but I did also ask about that. It *does* need to be sent directly from your undergrad institution (namely, the one you are expecting/received a bachelor's degree from). That's gonna be some snail mail. Looks like we'll all be here a while, lol.

This basically means that they are prioritizing their screening process in some fashion that has selected against our applications, no matter how early they were submitted. Which is... less than desirable for me.

I am a re-applicant and last year I submitted my app early august and I got the confirmation email within few days.
Maybe they are screening me because I'm a re-applicant who didn't get II last year haha.

Does it need to be mailed? What about email?

Yup, verified in June. I wish that they would just send an email letting us know that they received it even if they aren’t planning on giving us the II

Is receiving an email that they received my primary any indication of a future II? Did anyone previously receive that email and not get an II?

Seems that way, I think the application complete email means you have been screened into the next step of the application

Almost everyone who has posted so far about receiving a II has received any email from IU

*Edited for clarification

One is a requirement for the other lol. “Primary received” just means they’ve downloaded yours in the next batch

Is it though? It seems that people who were verified over a month before the transmission date haven't been "downloaded" but those that submitted last week were?

I think those that haven't received an email from IU have been screened out or are on the very least on hold

So there’s a second email saying my application is complete? I received an email saying they received my primary but that’s the only email

I never received any email from IU, what I meant to say is any email from IU

No clue man maybe. Or maybe they use screening metrics to download some people first and others later

I will say that I submitted my primary day 1 right at 9:30 so that may be why they’re looking at me first after the first batch. OOS with no ties and LM 72 so nothing special

I mean thats why we apply to many different schools to increase our chances lol, I'm just trying to parse together reasons why people haven't heard from the school

Exactly lol. I added them late but I think maybe they just have a ton more apps as the cycle was two weeks delayed. Tulane is usually early and rn they are swamped, some people just got secondaries. It’s a crapshoot 😛

I want to confirm that we have to wait until everything (deans eval and CAS payment posts) is in before they schedule our interviews?

Does anyone know if having a LOR from a non-science professor is mandatory? I only had one non-science professor last year in an online class and I'm not sure if I can get their letter.

I emailed asking about this and they said they'll take a second science-prof letter in place of the non-science letter.

Received II yesterday applied MD only! Anyone know if we have to disclose a traffic ticket given as a minor on the graduate school application? It says "Have you ever been charged with or convicted of a crime (or a foreign legal equivalent) that has not been expunged by a court?"

I emailed admissions and they said if you think you need to disclose it, disclose it so it confused me. It's not on my DMV record that I can find. What do you all think?

It depends on what state gave it to you. In mine, it's not a misdemeanor but I know in others (like I think Ohio) it is.

Let me

Let me know what you decide, I didn’t even realize that this would apply to me because on the legal disclosure form they say for anything other than a minor moving traffic violation

II today! Primary sent and acknowledged on 8/7. Anyone know how and when we schedule the interview?? My committee letter has still not been sent by my undergrad school (it’s done tho and hopefully makes it’s way to AMCAS this week or next). Want to be sure I don’t miss out on this spot. Reapplicant so I’m very excited about this. 🙂

Congrats! I think this pretty much confirms that they’re not downloading applications in batches and not looking at them in order

good luck at your interview!
