2020-2021 Indiana

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I got the primary app received 8/13, interview invite at 8/18, submitted everything 9/1 and only got my interview date last week 10/6. Dean's letter still not marked complete. I think yours is coming up soon.
I guess I will wait till the end of the month. If I have not heard anything I will send a email to make sure they did not forget about me.

Anyone submit in late August and not hear anything past the primary receipt? Soft R?

I got an II a little over a week before you, and my LOR and prerequisites are still not marked and I don't have a date. My deans eval got marked a few days after my school sent in via email though, so you might want to check that.
Glad to know it is not just me then! I just got my dean eval finalized today since there were complications with my college that delayed it.

Still waiting on my interview date....c'mon Indiana

:poke:

Also does anyone's letters say "not received", but when you click on it, it shows a date that IU received it?

is this only for people invited to interview? I don't have log-in info written down for them.
Yeah, they don't have a secondary so the portal is only for those who receive an II. They'll let you know by email if your status changes and there isn't any other place where you can go check it.

So in terms of who gets what campus, it's not random, it's actually based on your application?
It's also based on when you submit your rankings. the students on the panel mentioned that each time you change your rankings you go to "the back of the line" so make it once and don't change it!
Correct. IUSM likes to play coy with their campus placement process. At your interview, they will tell you 1) it is a random process and 2) everyone gets the same shot at every campus, irregardless of when you are accepted. This just isn't true. After your interview, I'd recommend looking into the pros/cons of each campus and town/city and having a ranked list ready to go so that (when you're accepted) you can submit your rank ASAP and never look back.

Current MS1, feel free to ask any questions about IUSM!

Anyone else just got a "complete" email post Interview that says we should receive a decision by June 1st?? 🤔

for anyone who knows, can you only apply to the Scholarly program AFTER you are accepted? on last year's thread it seems that you could apply before being accepted but I don't recall having that option this year.

For Interview day do we really need to check in 45 min early?
Yes and have your ID (driver's license or passport) handy. But after that check-in you can do anything until your scheduled interview time. I think they should have had the check-in 5-10 minutes before, but maybe there's a reason for such an early check-in?

Yep, you can apply as a first year to 3 SCPs.

Personally, I would wait. This is a waiting game, either way you look at it. Some people had to wait a lot longer than others to receive IIs.

I am pretty conflicted right now. I just received an II this morning from Indiana that was automatically scheduled for 11/11. However, this date coincides with a different interview that cannot be rescheduled. If anyone has any advice on how I should approach this situation, please let me know. Also, if anyone who received an II would be willing to swap dates with me please DM me.

Do you know the times for both interviews? You could possibly do both on the same day since it’s zoom. The IU interview will only be 40 minutes total, the rest of the zoom activities for interview day are optional. I know that to switch your interview date for IU, you have to be put on a waitlist for a new interview date and there’s no guarantee they’d be able to get you one. Good luck, sorry to hear about this unfortunate coincidence.

Thank you for your insight. The times unfortunately overlap. My interview for Indiana Is at 2:15 pm and my other interview lasts the entire day from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

I would go ahead and contact Indiana and tell them you have a previously scheduled interview that day that you cannot move. They should be flexible in working with you to interview you on another day since you are honoring a previous commitment.

For those with interview dates/have interviewed, did they send you the zoom link at a later date? Also where did you read that we have to be 45 minutes early? Was it on the portal?

The zoom links for the optional financial aid session, optional student panel, and 45 minute check in will be sent a week or a few days prior to your interview. I think in that email it specifies that you have to be 45 minutes early, but this is just so they can check your ID. Once the office staff has checked off your ID you can log off until your interview time, which you'll access through the portal.

Any unbalanced IS (low GPA high MCAT) folks with an II? I'm beginning to think IUSM favors people right down the center-lane with stats closer to the means, rather than a compensating GPA or MCAT. I wonder if it's different for in-state people.

I'm in-state + ORM + have pretty unbalanced stats (s/cGPA ~3.5 and 99th %ile MCAT) and I had my interview here this month.

For those accepted, do we just confirm our spot via email or do we have to mail the form in too?

Absolutely agree... I'm not in their time zone so it was extra early for me and it was absolutely unnecessary since the actual check in took 5 minutes

Has anyone received their acceptance? Also, is anyone applying to the rural program in Terre Haute or have more info or feedback about it? (besides what's on the website)

I ended up having technical difficulties (they had server issues with their AMP portal that wasn't allowing people to get in and access their meeting links from certain areas of the country) for all of the 45 minutes, and they were able to figure out an alternative a few minutes before my scheduled interview time. I imagine the time cushion is so big for unforeseeable stuff like that.

wow, 45 minutes check-in makes sense now lol

This will be my first interview and I am trying to prepare the best I can. Are we supposed to know anything about the person interviewing us? I just looked on the portal today and it has the name of the person interviewing me, but I do not know if this is important pre-interview or not.

I did look them up before to learn some stuff that could help me connect with the interviewers. Maybe that's too creepy idk but it was one of my best interviews so far.

No, you're not supposed to know anything about the person interviewing you. I didn't know who my interviewers were and interview day went just fine. Just focus on your application (know it inside and out), take deep breaths, and know about why you would like to attend IUSM! You got this! 🙂

I got an II a little over a week before you, and my LOR and prerequisites are still not marked and I don't have a date. My deans eval got marked a few days after my school sent in via email though, so you might want to check that.
Has your LOR and prerequisites been marked complete yet? I am just debating if I should email them or not...

For people who already interviewed, did they tell you anything about a timeframe moving forward or when we should expect to hear back?

Question: Were you asked about a scholarly concentration at your interview? Or is that process after your interview?
I do not know much about this program and I am wondering if I will need to study it/choose a specific program before my 11/4 interview

I mentioned a specific scholarly concentration as part of my "why IUSM" answer but I was not specifically asked about it beforehand. If you're going to bring one up you should definitely read the PowerPoint page and website associated with that specific scholarly concentration, but I wouldn't worry about memorizing all of them, if that's what you're trying to ask.

From what I understand you get to apply to a scholarly concentration after acceptance.

yes you don't apply to any SCPs until you're an M1. But if there's one you want they recommend you rank that campus first if you get accepted

Never hurts to see if they're involved in research or a specialty that's of interest to you so you can ask questions on those specific things. It's only for your own personal benefit though, not expected from an interviewee.
