2020-2021 Iowa (Carver)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I went weirdly under time? I answered all their questions and asked them 3 questions and finished with like 2-3 minutes left and sat in Zoom silence while the interviewers wrote their notes <3 Just wanted to share my experience here as well for people who might feel worried if they don't go for the entire time.

I take that it still went well enough considering the outcome lmao, but it def worried me a lot at the time since everyone always talks about how talkative and friendly their interviewers are 😳
I agree with this! It didn't feel super conversational to me and I have been completely overanalyzing everything. I think the zoom format with three people and the fact that one person was kind of far away from the webcam made it feel less conversational than the other interview I have had. Hoping for the best

Yeah I was getting my second question answered when we got cut off

Same here, I didn’t get to really have a conversation with my interviewers and I had like 3 minutes to ask them questions. I feel the interviewers greatly affect the type of interview you have and I just didn’t jive with mine lol.

Do you guys think it'd be a good idea to send them a letter of interest at this point? I am OOS and completed mid August but haven't heard back

For those accepted, did ya'll get an email saying that you have to pay for a deposit or nah?

People are on edge waiting to hear if they'll make the cut this year. Don't take it too personally!

I interviewed this week and there were zero political questions (unless you wanted to infuse it into your answers for whatever reason, but I wouldn't recommend it, haha). If you got that idea from watching our politicized news, you'll be happy to hear that people don't typically talk about politics unless they're beyond the professional level (like good friends from work maybe).

The interview questions they'll ask you are listed on a different section of SDN if you google "Iowa interview questions" to prepare yourself. It's a laid back conversation so don't stress too much over it.
Can you link the interview questions thread? I can’t seem to find it and would love to look over them.

I could've sworn they said that the earliest they would accept would be a month after the interview, that's wild! Congrats on the acceptance mate, I shall await my news as well as a fellow 10/23er.

Yeah, I just interviewed on 11/9 and they told us 4 weeks at the earliest. They also said they don’t always review applications in the order in which we interviewed. Some people get lucky and hear sooner, and some of us may not hear back for months. They said they try to let applicants know if they’ve been pushed into the final pool (March), but we can assume we’ve been pushed till then if we don’t hear anything by ~January.

I agree with this. I think they send rolling acceptances to people they think may not attend due to high stats/multiple offers but could be swayed with some merit aid (what is offered with the acceptance I believe). The rest of us they interview they’ll look at again next year before releasing final decisions for everyone.

Has anyone received a final pool designation yet?

I believe final pool isn't declared until January. Until then, the only news we can hear back is acceptance.
Thanks! I wasn’t sure if the rolling admissions period includes placement in the final pool. I interviewed 10/2 and wish I would hear back soon even if it’s final pool.

Does anyone remember how often adcoms meet to make decisions on acceptances? Was it the 3rd Thursday of each month?

Does anyone know if carver is interested in letters of interest?

From what I interpreted during my interview, the woman talking to us made it sound like her team encourages the team who notifies us to let us know as soon as we are designated to be in the final pool. She said it doesn’t always happen and to assume you’re in the final pool if you don’t hear by January, but hopefully that means they will let us know once they make that decision.

Hello CCOM applicants! For those accepted, we started a Facebook group for the Class of 2025. This is a tradition for every CCOM class. It's a place to post questions, highlight CCOM events, and connect students. Facebook Groups

And feel free to reach out to me with any questions about CCOM. I've been here a while as an MD/PhD student.

Thank you for this! Hoping to be able to join the Class of 2025. Do you know if admissions is planning to release acceptances tomorrow? It has been said that Tuesdays are the days they notify applicants.

I'm pretty sure they don't send out acceptances on the same day adcoms meet though? Anyways, hopefully we all hear some good news on Tuesday.
Maybe I'm thinking of another school, but I recall someone on this thread or a previous one saying they meet Tues afternoon and release decision emails at the end of their meeting.
