If your apartment doesn’t have parking how easy is it around the school to find parking on the street and leave it there with the occasional moving for street cleaning or does anyone know a cheap place for parking

Parking is pretty expensive and there isn't really street side parking around campus. You might be able to find a side street to park on here and there, but it's tough. I would encourage you to find a place within walking distance or on a bus route. The most expensive lots are near the hospital and med school where you pay hourly. Generally you will not be able to get a parking permit for those lots. As you go farther out, they get cheaper. There are also storage lots where the undergrads park their cars and that might be an option if your apartment doesn't have street side parking. All of the lots have Cambus access to the med school. Here is the link to parking passes.

I live a few miles from campus and I bike to the hospital. I also take the bus when the weather is really bad. The bus system in the area is okay. If you live near a bus route I would encourage a bus pass. It's $50 a semester and gives unlimited rides on Iowa City or Coralville buses. Cambuses are free, so if you live near a route, take advantage of it.

I also have a night and weekend parking pass. It's cheap and gives you the ability to park just about anywhere after 4:30 PM on weeknights and all weekend long.

Hope this helps.

Hanging out on the IS waitlist... do we know when the currently accepted students have to commit to Carver and drop their seats at other schools? Is it April 30th?

Iowa's CTE is July 20th which is one of the later ones. However, there should be a lot of movement after April 30th as people commit to other schools whose dates are sooner than July 20th and have to drop Iowa's seat.

I married a nurse and exploit her parking pass. Super viable option if you have the chance.

Hello Everyone,

Congratulations to those of you that are accepted and are planning to enter the class in the fall! I currently live in Iowa City and am moving to South Carolina in the fall to begin school myself, so I am looking for someone to take over my lease beginning in August. I will be leaving partway through May, so if you are planning on moving during the summer it will be available then.

I live in a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house in Melrose Ct (about a 10 minute walk to MERF). All of the bedrooms are upstairs and the main floor is quite spacious and includes a kitchen, dining room, living room, and den. There is also an unfinished basement that we have mainly utilized for storage. My current roommates (going to be a 2nd year medical student and a 3rd year dental student) are both staying for the following year. They are both males, about 24 years old. Rent is $600/month plus utilities. We have a driveway and spot in the back for parking - no trouble fitting 3 cars. It has been a great spot to live with its proximity to all of the hospital buildings, the stadium on days of football games, and easy bus access to downtown. My email address is [email protected] - if anyone is interested please don't hesitate to contact me for pictures/more information!

Can current students comment on the 3/4 rotations ? I heard you have to do some outside Iowa city and it’s lottery based ? Which ones do you have to do ?

Also , how much time is there for electives ?

I assume you mean M3/M4. Yes we do rotations during those years. We actually start in the middle of M2 year in January. You get thrown in and it's actually quite exciting. I don't think I could've done another half year of classes at that point. I have nothing to compare our rotations to. I assume their pretty standard. Some are great (obgyn, psych, family med) and some suck (surgery). That's purely a personal opinion.

We are required to spend 2 rotations, each 4 weeks, away from Iowa City for community rotations. I spent time in NW Iowa about 5 hours away for 4 weeks. I learned a lot and found I loved family medicine while there. Very grateful for the opportunity. I spent my other 4 weeks in a town about 30 minutes away. Again, a very fulfilling experience that I am very grateful for. Placement is "lottery based" to an extent. You are able to give priority to specific experiences when filling out your schedule prior to clerkship year. For instance, I wanted to stay closer to Iowa City for as much as possible so I ranked a family med rotation in a surrounding city as my highest priority and received it. Obviously I didn't have much say in going 5 hours away, but it worked out.

Hope that answers your questions.

compared to last years page, it seems that thus far this year has had WAY less WL movement, anyone think this is a bad sign for us WL people?

I was thinking the same thing. I am not sure it is a bad sign yet.. but if things don't start moving today or tomorrow I will be worried.

I've pretty much given up hope for getting off of the WL at this point. Time to move on to being excited for my other acceptances

How much wait list movement are we seeing? I have moved 1 spot so far today. Currently low 40's OOS.

Moved 2 spots yesterday (OOS), now in the mid-30s. Moved a total of 12 spots since being placed on the waitlist

No movement yet today! Is this normal based on previous years?
I moved 1 spot today which is probably from waitlist withdrawal. Maybe it just is delayed regarding reflected people who withdrew their A? Maybe this is just desperate wishful thinking lol

IS, started at #31, currently #21. Thankfully have an acceptance elsewhere, as I’m planning on not getting off the waitlist here.

They just sent out an email about IMEI being mostly virtual w/ some in person stuff. They recommend still moving on June 15th to experience Iowa.

Started at IS 31 and am down to 18. Can’t help but wonder if this is just from people dropping off the waitlist or if it’s from people turning down acceptances...

Does anyone know if most students that attend are commuters? There r not a lot of M1s looking for roommates on the fb page it seems.

I started at IS 27 and have moved to14

Let’s just hope overall movement is similar to last year!!

3 total? Dang, I've moved >30 spots total on the OOS waitlist, but it must have mostly been other people withdrawing from the waitlist.
It's been brutally slow. Still not stopping me from incessantly checking the portal though.

I’m at #7.... honestly it’s been moving a lot more than I thought it would but I really don’t know how much more it will keep slowly moving

I moved up another spot on the IS list this morning.. hopefully it keeps moving!
