2020-2021 Jefferson (Kimmel)

Admitted students: is anyone else’s FAFSA still not marked as received? I submitted it months ago but was just accepted 2 weeks ago, so I’m wondering if that’s the reason. Emailed financial aid office but they weren’t of much help, they just said check the school code is correct (it is). Really hoping they just haven’t downloaded it or something so I can get that aid package soon
Where are you seeing whether it has been received or not?

Admitted students: when signing up for the on campus housing portal does anyone know how to find a list of others for potential roommates? it says to "join a roommate group"? what does this mean?

For all those anxiously awaiting, I just want to share a few thoughts. This was my 2nd application to medical school. I've had this on my mind since 2017. Don't give up. Even if you feel like you're being passed up on time after time. Just believe in yourself.
Curious, did you reapply the next cycle or wait a one/couple cycles.

I applied in 2017-2018, which I really should not have because my application was not strong.
I did a Masters from 2018-2109 and reapplied in 2019, for 2020 matriculation. I was waitlisted in Feburuary and was told I wouldn't get off the WL/rejected in July 2020. That was a huge blow and it took a lot for me to rewrite my application and reapply, but I completed my primary in late September, and got a few interviews a few months later.

Keep believing in yourself. And, above all, listen intently to those around you, but follow your passion.

Very inspiring story! Thank you for sharing and congratulations!!

Is becoming a TA for a class (Orgo II) worth sending as an update?)

in line with above question, would starting clinical at a hospital be worth updating? I just started so I don’t have many hours yet. My clinical hours were lacking because all my hours stopped last year due to COVID and I am just now able to begin again.

I would say yes, especially if this is your first time TAing. You can write a ton about how being an instructor has taught you more about your own learning preferences and how to adapt your ability to communicate difficult topics to others.

I definitely think this is relevant. It was what mine was primarily about, and I wouldn't wait to send one in since the cycle is over half-way done.

another pre-II update question - literally just started with an organization as a volunteer tutor and I've been wanting to send an update on the job I had just started when I applied back in the summer. Is this worth it?? Probably gonna send it anyway lol

Has anyone gotten rejected recently after sending an update letter?

No reason to post this but I have my interview coming up and I'm super anxious. Seems to be a pretty relaxing interview overall, but I reaaaaaaaally want to attend this school :/

You got this!!! Think of me during your interview and you'll do amazing.

Does anyone know if the informal pre-interview meet up is mandatory?

Nope! Didn't attend anything that was marked as "not mandatory" and I still got in!

how quick do they usually get back after an interview?

this may have already been asked/answered but i think it's buried - do you get a confirmation email from Dean Callahan when you send an update? I sent one sunday and haven't heard anything so now I'm worried I had the wrong email or something like that

If you look at the communication status on your secondary portal you’ll be able to see if it was added to your file (it would say letter of interest or email received). Also I think it says somewhere to email updates to their admissions email so if you don’t hear back or see the confirmation I’d send it to the general admissions email.

Hi there! I sent my update to [email protected] and received an auto reply immediately saying to check communication status in my portal to confirm they have received it. It took a 3 hours to appear, but is now reflected there under communication status.

If you emailed it directly to the dean and don't see it confirmed on the portal, I would sent a follow up email cc'ing the admissions email as well. It easily could have been missed given you sent it on a Sunday.

Hope this helps!

they told me to also make sure that you send it to the general admissions email!

Any current Jefferson students? Want to dm a few questions I had about the school

I know it's late and chances of II are low, but I really like this school and am local, so I was thinking of sending a pre-II letter. However, I don't really have any major updates or activities that weren't already mentioned on my primary app. The only things I can think of is maybe a deeper reflection on a continued volunteer experience that I had begun not too long before submitting AMCAS, and being a co-author of a manuscript that's under review. Neither are very significant, but am considering since I hear SKMC is receptive to updates...?

On the other hand, is it worth sending just a plain LOI (without reference to the above "updates")? I could talk about what I like about the school, why I'm a good fit, as well as the personal significance of the city to me/my family. I guess I don't have much to lose at this point in the cycle lol but any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I was also HPWL-ed this week + declined the spot. Interview day wasn't really my vibe. But Jefferson is a great school so best of luck to you all!

I had sent basically this LOI and I got an interview invite the next day, so go for it!

Thanks for the input! I'll definitely work on it then. Good luck with everything!

I believe they are interviewing until the end of March, so, definitely go for it! There's still time, and there's still hope!
