2020-2021 Kaiser (Tyson)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does Kaiser accept update letters or letters of intent? One of my research projects was recently accepted for publication and I wanted to share this news with the AdCom. Unfortunately, I don't see an option to send an update on the portal.

Has anyone tried? Is it encouraged? Frowned upon?
Updates are only accepted if you are extended an II. Last year that meant you could only update at the interview and after. I don’t know if you can send the update once you receive an II because of virtual.

Does Kaiser like Letters of Interest? If so, when is the best time to send one? I don’t want to seem desperate.

Sorry for the dumb question but what do you mean by letter of interest? What does that entail?

It’s to communicate to schools that you really like their program, usually under the veil of an update letter.

It goes something along the lines of “Dear KPSOM, I wish to update you on my publication in Nature/Science/Cell. Also, the interview was a wonderful experience that significantly increased my interest in the program for ABC reasons. Having interviewed, I believe XYZ makes me a good fit for Kaiser, etc. etc.”

Personally, I think the significant update by itself is sufficient to demonstrate your interest.

Btw, my mom, a retired college English prof, stressed to her students that the only dumb questions are the ones you already know the answers to. I never forgot that. I admire you for asking your question, even though it seemed like everyone else knew. I have a feeling we'll be doing a LOT of that in the coming years!

II few minute ago 😀! One of my top choices as a CA native.

Question: Does anyone know roughly the post-II acceptance rate? Wasn't on the tracker from last cycle... I would assume low since their class size is so small? Thoughts?

Congrats!!! Do mind sharing your Stats and complete date?

Congratulations. When was your complete date?

Well, last year they interviewed 718 applicants so about 7%. People have reported they wouldn't be interviewing as many applicants this year.

I believe they wound up accepting about 70 students last year, 49 or 50 matriculated. So very close to 10%.

Has anyone's status changed from " Your application is now complete and awaiting review "

Are there any MD/PHD applicants that received interviews yet? I am assuming they are reviewing them later but I just want to make sure.

Anyone notice that the timeline for acceptances to be released shows up as Oct 30th in the portal but Oct 15th on the website? Has it always been Oct 30th in the portal?

Anyone know if they still plan on interviewing ~700 applicants this year like they did last year? I'm worried about them having a 10% post-II A rate again...

I did not receive any email.

Any idea when we can expect to hear back? Getting real nervous for the 15th...

The timeline on the portal shows early November but MSAR says Oct 15. I’m guessing the portal is more accurate but who knows!
