2020-2021 Kaiser (Tyson)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did people send thank you notes? I always do for traditional interviews, but i feel like it is less common for MMI schools.

Looks like they release A’s every two weeks on Wednesday then.

So, see you guys in two weeks? Bring the stress 🙂

So there been 4 acceptances on sdn, and not everyone uses sdn, so we can estimate around 10 A have been given out. Out of 50 acceptances +10 WL we can estimate around 40-50 acceptances left.

they will accept more than 50 off the bat plus more than 10 on the waitlist. There was a surprising (imo) number of people who were accepted and went elsewhere last year. Schools in general are forced a bit to be liberal with waitlists so they don’t inadvertently underfill their class. It’s hard to say how many, but it’s not over till it’s over!

For those of you who interviewed, did you send a thank you letter to all interviewers or just to the one you did a traditional interview with? This is my first MMI, so I am not sure how to go about this

Hello! It was my first MMI as well and I decided not to send a thank you note because it just seemed too confusing lol

I just received an II from KPSOM at 2:33 PM! Complete at the school on 7/13. 4.0/519 and IS.
Tbh idk much about the school, mostly applied for the free tuition. Can someone who has interviewed there or knows more about the school lmk the highlights? I like that they have Kaiser Permanente physicians as faculty since I like the Kaiser system

Just anyone know till when Kaiser is interviewing student?

have any october or later completions gotten II yet - and if so when in october/nov were u complete ?

It’s been 2 weeks since the last round of As, if the pattern holds seems like we can expect some more today?
Probably. I have also noticed that the acceptances we saw so far happened 3 weeks after the individual was interviewed.

I still laugh at how I received an interview invite and the only available interview date was LITERALLY THE NEXT DAY! Never have I broken a sweat by just looking at a screen, lol. Luckily it was a system error and the admission team was able to sort it out really quickly 🙂

Lol mine was the next day as well and I just took it, didn’t know that was an error 😩
Oh, so I wasn't the only one 😅, haha. I wonder how many of us got that. Regardless, congrats on II!

I'm very grateful to have received an interview, but even with one I feel like chances of being accepted here are extremely low 🙁 Better than no chance I guess.

They track who unsubscribed

Just kidding
I responded saying I'd participate because I didn't want to keep getting the email asking me to, and because I was afraid they really would track who requested to unsubscribe lmao

Pretty sure they don’t track if you unsubscribed. I unsubscribed and got an II like a week or 2 later
May be they do track who unsubscribed and send II only to those.
Btw - now I am confused. I never received this email. I assumed it was post-II. Is this sent to all applicants? If yes, how come I did not receive? What does the email look like?

I very much doubt they track who unsubscribes. On the survey itself, it says all applicants who submitted a secondary would be getting one.

Email:

Thank you for submitting your secondary application to the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM)!

As a new medical school, KPSOM is committed to increasing scientific knowledge that might improve future students’ medical education experiences, health and well-being, career development, and societal impact. We are currently building an ongoing repository of potential study participants for future medical education research studies. We invite you to participate in the repository by clicking on the survey link below.

If you would like to opt out of receiving follow-up emails regarding this repository, please email [email protected] to be removed from the mailing list.

Thanks for that. I received this way back in September, nothing else since then.

Btw, I am kidding about the tracking.

Apparently everyone gets the email? But literally there is no impact on your chances at KPSOM if you unsubscribe. I unsubscribed and now I’m an MS1 at Kaiser haha

My interview is tomorrow and I'm getting pretty nervous! I have never done an MMI before so do you guys know of any good resources to practice? I also know that with the agreement we signed nothing can be said about what happens during interview day, but anyone who has interviewed so far did you find the questions to be fair? Was this one of the more stressful interviews you've had?

I didn't find them to be very stressful! It was also my first MMI and I went in very nervous, but you should relax, it won't be as bad as you're probably thinking! I just googled MMI practice and read some questions/responses. Not sure if that was actually useful or not. Good luck!
