2020-2021 Liberty University (LUCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone have info on the deposits and their deadlines. I see there is a $500 and $1500, but not how far out each of these are due from date of acceptance.

All I see on my checklist is the $2000 due 12/14. Curious if there is something that needs to be done earlier as well...

You have till 12/14 to submit deposit? Wow, thats quite a bit of time. Most places have a 30 day turnaround right?

Has anyone with a 500 applied? I know their site says 501 minimum but I'm wondering if they're lenient on this at all
They do stick with their minimums (current student). If you want to go here, I would recommend calling them and letting them know you are interested and are planning on retaking the MCAT. You need a 501 minimum with a 123 minimum on each section. If you retake (it's not too late!), just email them (or call) when you get your scores back and keep expressing interest. They are very nice and accommodating during the application cycle.

Hey, so I've just been accepted to LUCOM recently and was wondering if there were any students on here that I could talk with about good places to live near campus and just general questions about the school? I wasn't sure if there was a place for that or not. Any help would be great, thank you! Also congrats to the other acceptances on here!

Has anyone not heard back but have been complete for 2 months already? I was really hoping to hear back within the 30 business days but it didnt happen.

@Wil938 First, congrats on the A! My daughter and son-in-law both graduated from Liberty University and still live in Lynchburg. There are several areas fairly close. A lot depends on what you are looking for in terms of housing; e.g. apartment, townhouse, single family. Will you be on your own, looking for roommates, have a family that needs space/schools/daycare...etc. Also, what is your definition of close? LUCOM is on the side of a hill that Liberty owns and there isn't any housing you could walk from. If a short drive is ok, your options are wide open. Cost is fairly low but my perspective may be skewed since I live in Northern VA which is expensive due to proximity to DC. Given a little more info, I might be able to provide some areas. You can also look at craigslist for that area to get ideas.

For those in a similar situation:

Completed my secondary 07/28, never got a "Complete" e-mail, LORs never showed up as complete on my portal, got the II this morning! 😀

Hello! Fellow Northern Virginian as well that loves to travel towards the shenandoah mountains/front royal to "escape" the hustle and bustle. Can you tell me a little more about life in Lynchburg Versus Northern Virginia? I know it's a slower pace of life with a more scenic view.

It is slower paced. Friendly and family-friendly environment. If you go to LUCOM, Liberty has a lot of stuff going on. Their theater department puts on outstanding shows. The club hockey team is great fun to watch (and their good). Plenty of resources to use as well. Lynchburg itself has lots of recreational outdoor stuff to do such as fun hikes, fishing, camping, etc. There are several many good restaurants besides many of the typical chains. There is a shopping mall (never been to it) but I don't think there is an abundance of choices like in larger cities. Nowhere near what Tyson's has. But there are cool Mom & Pop shops especially in historic downtown. My understanding is LUCOM does not require attendance at convocation (Liberty University does for undergrads). And, I don't believe religion is a key aspect (or much at all other than some professor might start class with a prayer) of LUCOMs. However, if you are inclined, there are several churches in and around Lynchburg. Depending on your needs and how close you desire to be to LUCOM, there are several small communities that are nearby in which to live. Bedford is an example. Last, it is a fairly short drive to bigger cities such as Roanoke, Charlottesville, or NOVA. Hope this helps and didn't add confusion.

I am a bit confused... so I submitted my primary four months ago (6/17) and heard nothing from them so I assumed that they are not sending me a secondary. I then just received an "application received" email a few hours ago. Normally how long does it take between receiving that email and the secondary?

Thank you! A short drive is fine. Unless there are affordable apartments to have a 1x1, then I may have to look for roommates. I didn't know if there was a LUCOM student page where incoming students tried to room together or not. I guess I'm not sure lol. To be honest I've never had to look for apartments before because I was able to stay at home for my undergrad, so this is all very new to me.

Does anyone have any info on the types of interview questions they asked? I'm super tongue-tied when it comes to virtual interviews because I can't gauge the person's reaction haha.

mine was extremely conversational! They just wanted to know more about my drive to study osteopathic medicine 🙂 Be able to answer "Why DO" "Why LUCOM" and "Why medicine" per usual!!! They asked me some questions centered around ethical situations and also asked me about my commitment to service. They just want to see if you would be a good fit for their campus and their Christian-focused mission.

ok that's weird I got the "application received" email about a week after my primary was verified. I would email them to see what's up. They are very kind and responsive.

Hey guys... I submitted my primary application to LUCOM 9/11 and haven't heard anything in regards to receiving my application/ secondary invite. cGPA is 3.6 and science is 3.3... I haven't taken my MCAT yet.. Could that be why? Weird because with COVID many of these schools are considering and even interviewing without it..

Yes, without an MCAT, I wouldn't expect an interview especially when LUCOM has strict cutoffs (501 minimum w/ no less than a 123 on any section). Maybe email them and let them know you are taking the exam in January and were wondering if secondaries are only issued to applicants with a score on file.

for anyone who interviewed last week, do we think we will hear anything today ? 😳

On the interview itinerary it just lists my interviewer as "interviewer B". Did anyone who already interviewed know who their interviewer was prior to joining the meeting?

Completed my interview here today, it was very pleasant and low-stress. They do not utilize a waitlist and meet weekly on Wednesdays to make decision's on acceptance/rejections. They said the turnaround for a decision is 7-14 days.

everyone who has interviewed thus far has gotten their decision within about a week!!! I interviewed last Friday so hoping for some news tomorrow.

Thank you! That was very helpful. I always feel so dumb answering ethical situations, since it always seems to be "talk to person privately" and "stay objective" and then I end up not being able to come to a decision lol.

Just a heads up for anyone waiting on an update.

I submitted my secondary on August 13 and received the generic "The Office of Admissions thoroughly reviews each application and supporting documentation. When all of your documents — including the three letters of recommendation — are received, you will be notified about your application status in a timely manner, usually within 30 business days."

I tried to be patient before emailing them, but my portal (make sure you're logging into ASSIST) still didn't have my LORs marked as received. So, I emailed the generic <[email protected]> email today and got a reply 10 minutes later saying "We have access to all your LoRs. Thank you for inquiring. We will work to get an invitation to interview sent out to you."

So, it might be worth sending an email out if you were still waiting around like me.
When I log in I just see this:
“We have received your secondary application, which is being reviewed. We will contact you regarding the next steps in the application process.”

How do I know if they’ve received my letters?

The last email I got on 7/28:

.
Dear Jessica,
Thank you for submitting your secondary application to Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM).
The Office of Admissions thoroughly reviews each application and supporting documentation. When all of your documents — including the three letters of recommendation — are received, you will be notified about your application status in a timely manner, usually within 30 business days.”
Nothing since then about receiving my letters or being complete, should I contact them?

Update:
My portal looks like this, so I emailed them:

It is super relaxed, be ready for why medicine, why DO, why LUCOM, and other questions about your experience/possibly application. I really enjoyed my interview, it was very relaxed and just a conversation. really made me excited for this school 🙂
