This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry if this was already answered, but did someone find a way to check your status? Mine is doing the thing where I submit my AMCAS ID and DOB and it just refreshed the page

Are you using UMLink

LORs marked received today and status says "Your Application to the UM Miller School of Medicine is complete and is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee.". Secondary received and completed 8/3.
+1

Did you get an email?

Sorry if this has been asked, but did UMMSM mean "systemic" instead of "systematic" in their secondary? I was thinking systemic applies to a process intrinsic to society across various institutions and systematic was more an entity which blatantly is discriminating against a group. If someone could explain, I'd be grateful!

Lmaoooo you should read the wild ride this thread went on about this. But long story short most people are using systemic

There was some extensive discussion of this earlier in the thread. I truly don't think it matters. A lot of people think it was a mistake and they meant "systemic," but giving a systematic example certainly wouldn't be wrong either. I think you could go with a structural issue or a systematic/direct/interpersonal one.

Yeah I think at this point just go with whatever relevant life examples you have and speak to discrimination from there. I was one of the people who originally pointed out the difference between the two terms, but I think we all agree that for the sake of this app it's open to interpretation.

Mine as well. Like I said in a prev post, they did respond to me and said "Please be patient. We have not yet uploaded LORs. If you don't see it next week, contact us". So, please wait till next week

My letters were there this morning
I submitted late on the 5th of August

I have noticed other secondaries mention when the reviewers do not have access to your primary and in those cases I didn't mind repeating info from my amcas activities on the secondary. I am just unsure of what to do for this one. I don't want to repeat myself and lose the opportunity to talk about more, but I also do not want to risk my most important stories/experiences getting ignored.

With the "chronological list with dates of your...".....are you guys listing recent (first) to oldest (last)? I would imagine this is da way but just checking.

LORs marked received today and status says "Your Application to the UM Miller School of Medicine is complete and is currently being reviewed by the Admissions Committee.". Secondary received and completed 8/3.

Had you contacted admissions previously about LORs? I also completed the secondary on 8/3 but my LORs haven't been received yet

Does anyone know what their official requirements are for letters of rec? On their admissions website it states 3 from faculty, but on the FAQ page it states "Three letters from individual faculty members, two of whom must be science faculty who have taught you". I wanted to check if anyone had any insight on this prior to reaching out to admissions. Thanks in advance!

Hey, does anyone know if volunteering at a hospital or similar facility would be considered volunteering or would it be considered clinical experience? I feel like it is both, but I am not going to put it for both.

I didn't see that FAQ page, but always go with whichever of their requirements is the strictest, so 2 from science faculty and 1 from any faculty.

Oldest to newest = Chronological
Newest to oldest = Reverse chronological
Thank you for your response, are you saying that Chronological starts with the oldest at the top? Because that's what it sounds like. Thank you again for answering my dumb question.

I know multiple people had this issue, but what should we do if our LORs have not been received after we submit our secondary? Should we email admissions? Should we just wait?

Seems like they're backed up since multiple people (including myself) haven't been marked complete bc of LoRs. So I wouldn't reach out to them.

I really don't have research experience. Because they explicitly ask you to explain your research experience, I am debating on applying here or not. Do you think it is okay to not have research experience and just say that in the prompt, or should I just not waste my time and not apply?

It's a tough call, especially since their mission statement also includes research and 96% of last year's matriculants had research. Not saying it's impossible, especially if you have amazing other experiences, but statistically it's not looking too great. :/

Even though most matriculants have done research in the past, there is still 4% of students that haven't! If you're really interested in the school and have many reasons why you want to go there, I say go for it. If you are interested in conducting research during med school, I might use the research essay to maybe explain why you haven't done research in the past (maybe you just weren't interested or didn't have the time) and how UMMSM can help you reach your research goals.

Mine submitted 8/5 was showing LORs NOT received till this morning. It changed to Received just now.

(Probably dumb) question for the "chronological list with dates of your community service/volunteering." I am in a service organization, and instead of being a long-term commitment of, for instance, volunteering at only a soup kitchen for an entire month, we have the opportunity to volunteer in small shifts at as many as 5-10 different places each week/month. I really enjoy getting to be a small part of a variety of programs and making my impact in this way. However, I'm not sure if I should be listing each exact date and location.. Or should I write something along the lines of "Spring 2019 - Spring 2021, volunteering at many locations including XYZ for such and such club" ?

no dumb questions here!!!

I would group.

I had the same situation as my sorority does a bunch of different service activities together each semester. I just grouped and labeled broadly. I probably could've added a few examples, but I felt like my other volunteering was strong already so I didn't bother and just put "Service with Sorority" and dates.

Where is the part where I can upload a photo of me on the secondary application?

Still nothing, I'll call tomorrow and let you guys know what happened.

I was told to email again if my letters had not been uploaded a week after their first response. Just sent that email because still nothing. They never picked up a single one of my calls and I tried to go in person to find the offices empty.

Thanks guys, I'll try to group these events together somehow
