has anyone been "under review" for months? complete early august, not scored yet

To save you all some heartache, this same topic is discussed weekly/ biweekly in here. A lot of us keep reiterating the same conclusions:

-Everyone who submits an application gets looked at, but not everyone progresses to “scoring”. It appears that getting scored is academic/ experience/ quality of writing based in a top to bottom ranked fashion with a priority on applications submitted early. I’m also assuming they evaluate if you have or are planning to take the necessary prerequisites as well as completeness of your application at this point in the process (I.e. submitted photo and all necessary documents etc).

-everyone who is scored gets considered for an interview, but not everyone is invited to an interview

-everyone who participates in an interview receives an evaluation by the admissions committee for potential acceptance, but not everyone receives an acceptance.

Most importantly, just because you are stuck at a certain stage of the process does not mean that it is final. You may still progress, and it isn’t over until you receive a rejection letter. Albeit Miami does send them late (July- August), but on the positive this also could mean more time to progress in the admissions process.

Looks like I may have been scored today:

Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their point total from the Committee review. Applications that have been reviewed and scored by the Committee will be considered for interviews during the entire interview cycle (September - April).

It changed this morning (Monday).

Edit: Complete 08/03.
were you emailed about this?

My portal also changed, it says the same thing more or less, just a little different at the end. I wonder if this difference means anything, does anyone have any thoughts on this? I suspect it's just a difference in semantics depending on who updated our file.

Interview invitations are extended between August and March.

Wait wait wait wait wait so. I could just be sitting here, waiting for my app to go from “under review” to “has been reviewed” for the rest of eternity? Are there people from previous years just completely unscored forever?

Yeah, I'd say that it's just semantics. I find it hard to believe that the admissions committee has the necessary time to drop subtle hints in our application portals. Admissions committees have received a record number of applications this cycle (over and above the normal year-to-year increase)

Yes it happened to a number of us last year. Also the school has stated that they typically have around 6k secondaries but this year they have had 10k. That was 2 months ago so I suspect that number has also grown some. I’m assuming that is unprecedented for them to have nearly 100% growth in secondary applications, especially during a pandemic where many are working remotely still.

Where/when did they state that they received 10 K completed secondaries? I heard that's how many secondaries they normally receive, and 6K are complete... I don't see how that number would increase so substantially given the length/size of Miami's secondary application.

I have heard they receive 10K every year and that 6K are complete as well

It was stated to us in the final presentation on interview day by an admissions dean. The point was made that they were receiving many more applications than in past years so far at that point in the cycle with higher completions as well. The numbers I previously mentioned were stated as part of that speech.

This may have probably been answered before but does anyone know the difference between behavioral and experiential program for the interviews? Also, I would appreciate if someone could share their experience with interview day. This is one of my top choices so I am kinda nervous about my upcoming interview.

Behavioral are circumstantial questions kinda similar to CASPER type questions but shorter- “What would you do if....” and also questions about your beliefs. Experiential interview is just that- about your AMCAS experiences and other experiences up until this point. Experiential is open file, behavioral is closed file. They will also explain it to you more at the beginning of interview day, and you should be given a more in depth explanation by each interviewer at the start. Hope this helps!

Hey everyone, I was wondering where the "scores" appear on the secondary portal? Once an applicant is "scored" does it appear next to the green checkmarks?

Where it says “your application is currently under review by the admissions committee...” that text will change to something else along the lines of sending an II if they think you are good enough to move on in the process and I believe it changes to green text as well.

Edit: you won’t actually see the score

It should be the admissions office. I titled it with update and they send a response email when they receive it
I sent mine to their email on Friday morning with no response, should I email them or just wait for a response?

Does anyone have any insight into whether any decisions will go out today? I have the following status on my portal:

"We hope you enjoy your visit to our campus. Your final Admissions Committee decision will be available shortly. Contact the admissions office at [email protected] if you do not receive a telephone call, an e-mail or a letter within seven days."

It's been a tough month and Im mildly antsy!!!

thanks in advance 😀

Hello! I believe today was one of the days for admission decisions to come out but unfortunately I haven't been notified of anything from them yet :/

Has anybody who wasn't accepted received any emails/notifications? Or do you only get notified if you are accepted? I haven't heard anything yet.

If it makes you feel better, I interviewed 10/26 and was told I'd hear back 11/18 and just heard back today! If your interviewers weren't fast enough to get you onto the ballot, that could have affected it. I wouldn't lose hope!

Thank you for letting me know! I will stop checking now then and hopefully get better news in January!

I'm terrified it has something to do with casper. I didn't think I had done that badly on it

Interviewing at Miami monday and I haven’t received an email confirming the times or zoom links for my interviews...

Anyone who has interviewed already- when did you get the times/ links? Really love this school so I’m worrying about missing something here!!
