Honestly, doesn't seem too relevant. Would probably be better until you get your Nobel.

I'm not reading it as a WL, just as a true deferral- mostly because I feel like a lot of schools are shifting to this weird baited-breath-small-bubbles-of-acceptances model because of COVID. but who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also got deferred and literally interviewed 2 weeks ago so there is no way they could have evaluated my full app. I'd take this as a true "we are still considering you" not a WL.

Yup pre II, happened on Jan 11 per thread/ friend who also got R on that day

I think it’s no different than at other schools where you might not receive an A on the first decision date but are still being considered for acceptance and notification on future decision release dates. Except while other schools tell you nothing after you’ve interviewed, Sinai at least lets you know what the deal is.
