2020-2021 Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It was a long insta story by @memeology.md that was converted into a twitter thread about all the schools refusing to vaccinate their medical students who encounter covid+ patients but are vaccinating admin
Can you link the twitter thread? Lol thanks!

As far as I know, no one who even interviewed November 12th has heard back so I doubt it :/
On their website, they say the decisions are made subjectively (the application is reviewed by many people). I guess that's why it's so slow...And I also don't understand exactly how subjective their decision can be.

Did anyone interview 12/3 hear back?

Yeah, I was the last to post an A on here and I interviewed on 11/5/20. But at the same time, SDN doesn't reflect the entire population of applicants, so it is not an accurate reflection of which interview dates have/have not heard back.

Congrats! When did you hear back from them?

Idk if it helps, but I just saw (today) an M4 post a screenshot of an email they got being offered the pfizer vaccine

Since we’re all anon here: Any current TSOM students want to speak on the validity of the recent name and shame sharing that Tulane isn’t vaccinating their students 🤨

Also very interested in this. That thread was rough 😬

Tulane has plans to vaccinate all students in the medical school. T3 and T4s are already being vaccinated. T1 and T2s will begin vaccination in the next couple of weeks.

Yes, just don't be an @$$ to your patient and you should be fine.

For the interviews, I've read to not assume that they have read your file. I'm not saying to tell them your entire life story, but be sure to give appropriate details, so the student and faculty can understand your answer.

Student Interviews are definitely closed file. We go into it knowing absolutely nothing about the applicant, so you definitely want to elaborate with details! Also, please take the student interview seriously! We try to make it so that students are as relaxed as possible, but please be professional! Do not say anything you wouldn't want the admissions committee to hear and definitely do not curse!! (I know it's common sense, but some students still make this mistake!!)

Considering whether to send an update letter but my file isn't even under review, complete 8/20 something. Anyone have advice on this?

If you have already written the update letter and you prepare to submit to other schools you applied to, why not submit to Tulane as well? It only takes a few seconds to upload a file and there is a chance that your update strengthens your application.

I was complete 9/3 and im still not under review. I had a significant update so i sent letter, i dont think it will hurt!

I still have the red exclamation point, is there any hope of being assigned to a screener this late in the game??

Does Tulane accept letters of intent? And if so, where/to who would we submit it?
They do, you can upload them to the portal. Tulane is one of the schools that actually look at letters/updates.

ADCOM members that I am connected to that are connected to the school even advise me to email Dr. Morrison and Mr. Woods, but obviously that is up to you.

Is this for letters of intent only, or would this be good for letters of interest too?

Interest letters don't generally mean much given they're getting 10k applications plus. In that same idea, intents don't mean much since there's no way they can tell whether you're serious or not, but from my experience they really take into consideration why you want to come to their school more than its in NOLA.

They encouraged updates and letters of intent such that Dr. Morris herself told you to email her during their in person interviews last year post interview if that means anything to you. I'm sure those accepted can chime in about updates/letters and acceptance.

Im new to this thread and nervous for my upcoming interview. Can anyone who has interviewed give me any tips on what to expect/ what was the vibe from the faculty and students. I am not sure how to prepare other than practicing the typical med school interview questions and this is my dream school so any tips would be helpful!

No need to be nervous, the interview day was very chill! My faculty interviewer was an older PhD, we got along well and he had nothing but nice things to say about Tulane and the students. The student interview was laid back and she was super nice 🙂 Can't give much info about the standardized patient because of the NDA, but it's nothing to worry about as long as you're a nice, normal person. But I got hit with the AR so maybe I didn't do as well as I thought I did lol. Good luck!

Hold for interview email today, under review on 10/06/20

Thank you for your response! This is what I see most people say about the interview, I wish you the best! Fingers crossed my nerves dont get to me lol. Just to clairfy you only meet with one person per intervew? So it is not a group of faculty its just one on one for both the faculty and student interview?

Correct, you only meet with one person at a time. I think the faculty interview was 30 min and the student interview was 45 min

I iied mid december. Do yall know what the turn around is to know if u got the A or not? cheerios

Does anyone know what the turn around time is usually for anything post “under review” status? I was placed under review 10/21 and haven’t heard anything (like a lot of people LOL) so I’m just wondering if there’s like a 3 month deadline for your screener to look at and read your app?

Seems like there is no rhyme or reason to their review process in terms of timeline. I was complete 8/18 and under review 8/19. Some people who were complete same days are just now going under review. I was placed on hold 10/15 and haven't heard anything else since.

Interviewed 11/12 and just got an “Acceptance Range” email! Oh wellz. Nice to hear something 2 months later

+1 fellas

+tree fiddy. Acceptance Range / Waitlist. Smh. Low key upset as I am a re-applicant who re-interviewed and now waitlisted again. The hard part is that a lot of movement does not happen until May after ppl "Plan to Enroll" elsewhere. So we here for a waiting period again.
