2020-2021 Tulane

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Placed on hold for a possible interview too. Is this a good time to send a letter of intent or are those reserved for post interview only?

Tulane accepts letters and updates. I've been sending monthly letters of interest to Tulane pre-interview; just sent thank you letters post-interview. n=1, but it led to my acceptance, so *shrugs*

From what I heard, pre-II you should send a letter of interest or updates only if the school welcomes them. Post-II, you are absolutely good to go for a letter of intent.

What does one typically write in letters of interest? I figured I could mention a couple reasons I am interested in Tulane but what about subsequent letters? Also, I dont really have any updates to mention in my letters.

Just curious, does anyone know if there are many scribes still working in ER's and on the frontline of the pandemic?

Sometimes showing your continued interest and sincere reasons can be enough, keep it short. Its the equivalent to nudging someone in real life.... or "liking" an old imessage to remind the person to respond. Tulane likes those who are really interested (hence why they usually accept those who are complete REALLY early). Just explain that you're still interested and how its "amongst your top choices" if it truly is, and if you don't have any updates. I sent an update to most schools... and then am waiting until post-interviews to send either continued interest letters or a letter of intent for my top choice. Hopefully this helps!

Definitely helps! Thank you!!

They make it pretty clear that you shouldn’t contact them. I was complete 8/21 and I’m still not under review. A lot of people are still waiting. We just gotta be patient and hope there are still interview slots left by the time our application is assigned!

Anyone accepted & would like to share their stats?
c & s GPA 3.9+ , mid/high 51x, LM 73-4, but huge service orientation, specifically with urban, underserved communities and plan to do MD/MPH, so think that was my main tie to Tulane's mission. They get 18k+ apps, and interview 600, and their median stats are like 511/3.6 (I think, too lazy to check MSAR), and I can assure you there are 600 people applying well into the 4.0/520 range, I really think Tulane commits to holistic review and wants to make a diverse class, so I don't think stats say much here but I know I neurotically want to compare myself to others in these threads and stats make it easy, so I understand haha. I had a friend 3.9+/521 Engineering from a T20 undergrad who submitted mid-july and got a hold for II and I got an II before him, but my EC's align with Tulane more. (he's gotten love from more prestigious places than I, so he's doing okay lol)

Sure, my LM is 70, so mid 3.8 science GPA, cGPA is high 3.8. MCAT is low 51x. I'm a non-trad (will be attaining my Ph.D. in Neuroimmunology in Spring 2021) and aiming to become a clinician-scientist in neuroscience, immunology and infectious diseases (which Tulane is pretty keen on). They are also hoping to expand their neuroscience translational (bench-to-bedside) research, which I believe worked in my favor. Aside from research, common themes in my app are community science outreach and working with the underserved, so it align with Tulane's mission and their community free clinics. I'm also Canadian and regarded as international by many schools. TUSOM has been my only II so far, so I'm privileged that it became an A.

Good luck to the rest of the applicants 🙂

Very well deserved, considering the obstacles of an IMG. congrats!

Im currently an ER scribe, been working throughout the pandemic

Anyone know any more info about how many AR get accepted?
I don't know about how many "more" AR will get accepted, as it's still the middle of the cycle. Tulane's website say they will send acceptance (after interview or from AR) and AR decisions every week, but based on recent activity, I don't see any activity (although SDN does represent a minor portion of applicants). With the holidays soon, I don't expect to hear anything until after the school year restarts. Perhaps most AR (Tulane's version of WL) will be after April 30th (2021 CTE date).

I know my letter states most movement will be spring- after feb. Just curious as I hope CTE dates aren’t before we see movement. They did say most of the people get AR which is not horrible I guess.

Anybody think they'll be sending any acceptances this week? or not until the first of the year because of the holidays?

I recently had a call with Mr. Woodson and they seem to be winding down for the holidays, so I don't think the chances are high...

I was under review on 8/7 and placed on "hold for possible interview" on 9/20 🙁 no other news at this point
Sorry if this has been discussed 1000x already on this page, but I got the "hold for possible interview" too a couple weeks ago- is this a silent rejection?

No, but very few ever get off of hold to receive an interview. Most likely, their interview spots are full, but a couple of us might receive an interview eventually.

Anyone know if that second wave of II's should be coming soon?
I’m a bit worried that it may not happen or the ‘wave’ itself will be a lot smaller... I assume many people are attending more interviews this cycle since everything is virtual. Knowing that Tulane is scheduling far out, their second II wave will probably depend on how many people dropped their late winter/early spring interviews. Trying to stay positive, but I feel like I will never be reviewed by Tulane at this point haha (submitted in Sep)

Same, this makes me so sad

Yes...I saw a lot of people with 10+ IIs lol People are less likely to drop an II this cycle.
I don't think there will be many interview slots open at Tulane. (Complete 8/20 ish and still not under review hehehehehe)
