2020-2021 UC San Francisco

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
FYI dean of admissions said today that today is the first day they're convening to make final decisions. Y'all who interviewed early will probably get decisions this Friday or early next week methinks!

Question: anyone know if UCSF opens up your file again for final decisions or if it's solely based on the two interviewers' feedback? do they use a number ranking for interviews like UCLA? nervous T_T

I interviewed early and was wondering about when the decision will come out. I looked through previous years' threads and found out that the first wave of final post-II decisions usually come out on the Wednesday of either 2nd or 3rd week of December. I guess this year we would figure out sooner? So nervous, scared, and excited!

II for Urban Underserved (PRIME). Correct me if I am wrong but unlike other prime programs, you need to get into the MD program then they will interview for prime? Does that mean if rejected from prime, you are still accepted from the regular MD?
Yes! Based on what I've heard, you interview normally for MD and then get a phone interview for the PRIME aspect. If you get rejected for PRIME, you are still in the running for a regular MD
I'm still a bit confused on this. It sounds like they got an II for PRIME before getting an II for regular MD, but I may be wrong. I think the question was if you get an II for PRIME, does this mean you have been accepted to the MD program already?

May have read it wrong but based on a webinar, it seemed as if you cant get accepted into PRIME without acceptance into the main MD program. The II doesnt matter in this case but an II for PRIME means you are also interviewing for a place in the MD program. So if you get rejected from PRIME, you can still get a regular MD. For the interview, it sounded like you would interview similarly like the MD program and then would get a phone call interview/maybe videocall for PRIME

Complete 8/17 (PRIME applicant) and haven't heard anything yet. I already have 2 PRIME IIs from other UCs, so hoping UCSF comes through.

ok that makes sense, sorry for the confusion, I am just as confused, because did not get a specific MD interview invite, the email legit says, interview invite for MD/PRIME as the subject, so that one interview will count for both I assume

This explanation helped a ton, thank you!

This a bit of a late question but did everyone have a 2 week deadline listed for their secondary? My email specifically said 4 weeks and I submitted within 3 weeks, so I'm not sure if there was an error or I was late. I was able to submit though.

My email also said no later than four weeks.

I believe in the earlier emails, its was 4 weeks, and sometime during the cycle, it turned to 2 weeks.

Anyone know about how long it takes for an II to be sent after submitting the secondary? I submitted my secondary 10/15

I submitted mine on 9/2 and waiting. There are people who submitted before and after you who are either waiting or already got their II. At this time, there is no set number of days between submission and II. Keep your fingers crossed and wait!

did you receive an II yet?

Interviewing here in about a week... if anyone could speak to the stress level of the interviews, I would greatly appreciate it! My last interview was a stress interview and was pretty difficult, so I'm a little more nervous than usual for my UCSF one.

I had my interview with UCSF a while ago but I can say with confidence that it was the most pleasant, comforting interview experience out of 3 med school interviews. I think the stress level also depends on your interviewers (faculty and med student) but so far I don't think anyone I know had a stressful one at UCSF. Good luck on your interview! You got this 🙂

Sorry if this has already been answered but what is the format of the interview day? Is it just one-on-one? I can't seem to find information anywhere in the portal or subsequent interview emails. I'm not sure what to prepare for lol.

I believe we have two one-on-one interviews, one with a faculty and one with a student. I think both are closed file, with a lot of people reporting them lasting ~45 minutes. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!

Hey! I was wondering if UCSF accepted pre-II updates? Does anyone happen to know? Also, is there phone line active? I called last week and nobody responded so wasn't sure if anyone else had the same experience. Would appreciate any help 🙂

Just got a secondary and sent in my primary in late September. Does this mean someone looked over my app and liked what they saw? Should I fill it out at this point in November?

UCSF Is very specific in who they invite to complete secondaries. They will not send them to you if they don’t think you have a chance of an II. Do it 100%
