2020-2021 UNC - Chapel Hill

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My portal changed to Decided, but I haven't received a call or email. Anyone know what this means? Anyone else?
The portal status means absolutely nothing, I promise. Mine still said awaiting decision until like a month after I was accepted. Others turned to decided before they interviewed. Don't pay attention to it.

I also interviewed 9/24 and have not heard back yet. Not feeling great after the big A wave ☹️
Been listening to Dear Evan Hansen... this is how I feel everyday coming to SDN..... (perhaps this song is a way to comfort myself....) Stay hopeful and good mental health to everyone!

OOS taking longer to get answers? I don't know that for sure. But in most years, there are 6 times as many OOS applicants as IS for 1/6 the seats. And this year med school apps across the country have jumped 20% (I don't have UNC specific numbers on that). When they've only got like 35 spots to give, it wouldn't surprise me if they hold off til they've interviewed more of the OOS apps.
I am confused by your comment. While the competition is much steeper for OOS students pre-II, post-II the acceptance rate appears to be higher compared to IS (227 accepted out of 485 for IS, vs 71 accepted out of 123 for OOS; 46% vs 57%). Here is a link to the post-II acceptance sheet everyone always speaks of. I believe that their yield is much lower for OOS students, which is why MSAR and the excel sheet show that only 24 OOS students end up marticulating.

Yeah, I never used this website when I was applying, so I hadn't seen that spreadsheet. Like I said in my comment, I don't know for sure, but that was the most plausible explanation I had based on remembering MSAR from 2 years ago and the fact it sounds like there haven't been many OOS acceptances yet. Based on the spreadsheet, I would agree your odds should be better and I have no idea why they haven't gotten an answer yet.

I interviewed on 9/28 and have not heard back either. I felt really good after the interview, so I hope we all hear back soon!
Are you out of state? I'm out of state and interviewed 10/19 and still have not heard anything either. It seems as if most of the people who got accepted this week were IS I think?

Accepted via portal update! Interviewed 11/9, IS. Is there a FB group for c/o 2021 yet?
I haven't gotten any invites for a FB group yet and it's been about a month for me. Since they seem to slowly release A's maybe they're just waiting until later in the cycle

Does anybody know if the admission office is responding to emails during December, and how long they take to get back?

@alibon I know you may have no clue, but do you think the As this week are the bigger wave you were anticipating in December, or do you think there are more to come this month?

Yeah I can't say for sure, but I think that was the wave I was expecting. There could be more answers, but I probably wouldn't be expecting to hear before the new year.

This can be a really stressful time, especially hearing other people be accepted, so to anyone having a hard time, I really recommend stepping away from this website for a few weeks. Enjoy your holiday, spend time with whatever friends or family you have in your bubble, and try to breathe a bit.

Good advice!! Thanks for sharing.

I was looking through last year's thread and there was another wave of acceptances the week before Christmas and then nothing until mid January-ish so maybe more of us will hear back next week fingers crossed
Were there any IIs around that time?

Does this mean that II will no longer be handed out?
I went digging on last year's thread and it seems like people were saying that last year's cycle was a shorter one than normal? The last interview date was in early Feb and I don't think I saw any IIs in Dec-Jan, but it sounded like people thought that other cycles were not finished that early. Can't find the thread from two years ago for the life of me though, so can't confirm.

Did not receive a call from my interviewer, but I do have two missed calls from "No Caller ID" the day before my portal changed/letter arrived so maybe?

Of note, I only applied to UNC, Wake Forest, and ECU. Rejected from Wake Forest last week and did not receive II from ECU yet. I'm really counting my blessings y'all.

That "y'all" is why you got in. They sensed a fellow southerner.

No, seriously, congrats!

II today!!! Any idea how many offers they have made thus far/if we are essentially interviewing for waitlist spots?
I am no expert at this but I would consider myself lucky to interview even if it is for WL, at least there is a chance to get off waitlist! All the best to you and all others who got IIs today. I am still waiting for mine, was WL last cycle too so not sure where this will go but today I am still hopeful!

I died laughing at this. 😂

Did you ever get that phone call from your interviewer? I believe we interviewed on the same day too!

I did not get a call back, but my portal updated and I already paid the $102.75 fee, so I'm locked in haha

If they wanna take this A back, they will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands xD

I have noticed a pattern where they dont announce anything for a certain period of time after waves of decisions or interviews. So we may not hear anything this week. But then again, maybe enough applicants are not reporting on here, so we cant really know.

Do you mean recently or in general? I am OOS and got II 9/21, interviewed on 10/19 and haven't heard anything
Either! Have not seen many OOS interviews posted here in general or recently. Was trying to get a feel for whether OOS people were mostly interviewed early on or are continuing to get IIs here.
