2021-2022 Eastern Virginia

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you! Is it just straight-up A/R? or can they put you on hold and delay their decision on you?
It will either be an acceptance, rejection, or put on the alternate list (waitlist) that has three tiers (top, middle, and bottom third). Keep in mind that with these early interviews, the first day to find out for any medical school isn't until on or after Oct. 15, so you could be waiting more than 2 weeks in that case.

Was it stressful? I’ve heard some med schools purposefully make interviews stressful to see how you handle it.
No it didn’t feel stressful they weren’t grilling me and they didn’t ask a bunch of extra follow ups to my answers. Honestly it could’ve been that I didn’t prepare v well for 1-2 of the questions ?? Idk😵‍💫

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for advice as a current graduate student and applicant. My 1-year MPH program is set to end in August next year and EVMS just told me that my degree conferral and program needs to be complete by 8/1/2022 (since EVMS classes start on 8/4/2022). If not, I am not considered for admission for this cycle. Has anyone run into this or a similar issue and do you have any advice on how to go about it? I really like this school and am super bummed to think that I won't be considered this cycle just for a technicality.

Just finished my first interview! I feel like EVMS is a good first interview to have. 2 people interviewed me (one faculty member & one student). It was overall not very stressful, but be prepared to answer questions about the healthcare system, health disparities, and how you feel EVMS will enable you to become the best physician you can be.

These are pretty much the questions I had as well. Best of luck to you 🙂

My app was complete on 8/31 and I still haven't received a secondary (OOS). Does anyone know if they take a while to send?

Yeah they screen pretty heavily, I did not get one until a month later I'm OOS as well

for those who have interviewed here already, how long was the day? Trying to figure out if I need to take the whole day off from work

The Wednesday info session is from 9:30 to around 1:30-2ish. The actual interview day is pretty short and sweet. Your interview will only last between 30-45 minutes.

did they email you specifically about the info session dates and times? I have no message about that. Thanks for the response!!

It’s not mandatory to attend the session though right?

How much weight does this school put on interviews since they seem to be so short?

Are the interview sessions mandatory and do I have to join for the full time? I have an exam during the session time but would like to attend.

The Info session on Wednesdays is what I’m referring to btw.

I know in my email that I received from them prior to the interview that if you are unable to attend the information session that is held during the week of your interview, you are welcome to attend any of the other information sessions throughout the rest of the cycle. The login information for the session is the same each week

Does anyone have thoughts on sending a letter of intent this early in the cycle? EVMS has been my #1 choice for a long time (and for two cycles - reapplicant), but I'm unsure if now is too early to send a LOI, especially with additional interviews scheduled with other schools. Thoughts?

Yes; they actually encourage them! They take up to 6 updates sent in PDF form through the end of the cycle.
thank you! how do you send them? do you email it to them because I am looking on the secondary portal and it doesn't look like there is an option there

What types of questions were asked at the interview? How much weight is put on these interviews? Getting nervous as the day comes closer, I’m definitely not an all star interviewer. Hoping my primary and secondary can get me in lol.

Idk how much I can say but the questions are pretty much typical interview questions. I didn’t really have a questions that stood out to me as a curveball or anything

Why EVMS, questions on being a doctor and whether you’re prepared for it, addressing health disparities, etc.

Nothing you’d be caught off-guard by if you practiced the typical interview questions

Emailed today about not having a complete status. Said they're waiting on 2 letters from AMCAS. Think I'm gonna be sick 🙁

Anyone know of anything I can do about it?

Check the delivery system you used for letters. If nothing seems amiss, then call admissions and ask which they are missing.

Did anyone who attended the info sessions already think they were really valuable to attend before their interview? My interview is this Friday and was going to attend today, but alas I confused my timezones and missed it. Wanted to enhance my why EVMS but looks like I’ll have to attend after my interview.
