2021-2022 Medical College of Wisconsin

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got accepted as well! Milwaukee campus, interviewed 10/29. MCAT 511, 3.98 GPA. Interview was very nice, and every single person who I have interacted with on the interview day was just the sweetest. Typical interview questions, and they know your application really well (in my case they did, at least).

Should I be emailing admissions after submitting updates (for any school) through the portal? Or is it best to just leave it alone?

So this is my second II but will be my first interview. I know that the two interviews are open-file, but does anyone have any insight (that you're allowed to share) on the "optional" group activity? I don't want anyone to break their NDA, but is it an MMI, group interview, group learning thing, or what? Also, what's the dress code for the med student social (business casual or basic casual?)

Hey! Congrats on your II! MCW's interview day was relaxed. The people were kind, everyone i met was awesome. I did not go to the optional activity because i did not have time due to family commitments. I was wearing a formal button up shirt and a tie, (although everyone with me was in business professional attire)

Got the A a few days ago though. I hope that gives you some context.

Be yourself they already like you, dont give them a reason not to.

Good luck!

I honestly don't remember any "optional" group activity, though I interviewed for a regional campus so perhaps it's different for Milwaukee folks? And I don't think any schools are really posting dress-codes, but from what I can gather from all the socials I've attended so far, business casual is never a bad decision.

For MCW I wore a full suit to the two meetings, and business casual to a follow-up introductory meeting with the Office of Inclusion after they reached out post-interview.

It was a really great interview like everyone else was saying. Very relaxed, and definitely wanting to get to know you. I went to the group activity and really enjoyed it because I was able to speak with some of the other interviewees and get a feel for some of my possible class members. It wasn't stressful and similar to other small group activities - teamwork and communication-based. No interviewer asking questions. For the med student social the night before, it was business casual.

I got the A on 10/15.

I did not attend the optional group activity. During the morning session, they will go over what to expect if you plan to attend and you can make a decision the day of if you want to go or not. I wore a sweatshirt to the student social. No adcoms and very casual.

Whats up yall, I have an interview coming up and I just wanted to ask, what did ya'll speak about when asked "Why MCW?". I already have an idea of what I want to talk about but I just was curious what other people spoke about

my heart dropped when I got that update email... but glad I am still under review!
Same! But doesn't it seem a bit off when they say "we do not utilize silent rejections" and also say "if not selected for an interview, you will be notified no later than when all interview dates are complete". So basically you can tell me Im rejected when you have done all your interviews? Isnt that no better than a silent rejection? Just my 2 cents and I could be reading into it wrong.

Ya I think that there are multiple interpretations of the phrase “silent rejection”

For some (most on here), it means that a school waits until the end of the cycle to send rejections. This is common.

I think for others It means just never rejecting. I think that this is quite rare.

I would rather get the R now then at the end of the cycle lol.

Yeah, to MCW silent rejections likely means you will hear back but in April lol. I would rather be notified way earlier.

I could have sworn that some people earlier in this thread reported rejections but I’m not sure if it was pre or post secondary

Hasn’t been any in a while. I think some people may have confused it with UW since they sent a lot of hard rejections already.

So what exactly does it take to get into MCW OOS? Not quite sure what they are looking for based on their admissions website

which regional campus?

For people who have already interviewed (if you can share this), was there time given to provide an update on current activities? I was planning on sending in an update letter soon but now that I have an interview soon, I am wondering if I should just hold off.

I am not sure if my answer would be of any help but pay attention to when they will tell you (on interview day) the adcom will meet to score you.

This is important becacsue you need to send updates before that so when they're making the decision, they can have your update with your app. if you send it after they meet, then its no longer relavent.

I might be wrong, but this is the process of most of the medical schools I interviewed at - inlcluding MCW.

Good Luck !

They let you upload an update letter to the portal after your interview. Like the other person said, make sure it’s before the committee meets. They should let you know when to upload the letter by 🙂

This might sound a bit gunner, but with their sub 2-week turn around from interview to decision date, I don't think it would be a bad idea to have whatever update letter someone wants to submit ready to go by the day they interview, and perhaps even submit it on that day.

Again, my experience is for the regional campus, perhaps they don't have a turn around that fast for MKE and it could also be that they don't even tell MKE applicants when their decision date will be like they did with us. So that is relevant as well.

It's definitely not a bad idea! I interviewed on a Friday and the committee was meeting the following Monday, so I submitted my update letter later that day. I interviewed with the MKE campus and they did let us know when we'd hear back. Seems like the experience is similar with the regional campuses 🙂

If you don't mind, what is your research like? Also MSTP applicant, but my stats are flipped from yours with productive gap years.

I worked at 4 different labs throughout undergrad and after I graduated I started working at one but Covid-19 stopped it. They were all neuroscience and mental health related. My aims were to study the effectiveness of treatments for several neuropsychiatric disorders.
