How long did it take to hear back about an interview date after requesting your preferred dates? It's been several days for me and I just wanted to make sure that's normal b/c I saw an earlier post that said it only took 2 hours. Thanks for any input!

Hi! When did you receive the initial II?

Hey everyone. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted and best wishes to everyone still waiting. I recently got an interview invite for both MD and MD/MPH. I was wondering if anyone could share their interview experience - what happens the entire day? How "chill" is it? Any tips/advice? Super nervous since this is one of my top choices.

Congratulations! when did you submit your application?

How does someone send an application update here? Do they even accept them pre-interview? I've tried looking all over their website and the portal but can't find anything.

Hey all! II today!!! Complete in the earlier part of October! Absolutely ecstatic!!! There were dates starting in early December for those wondering!
Yo that's awesome!! Similar complete time here, do you mind sharing stats and when you were scored if you remember?

LM ~67 URM. I checked yesterday to see that I had been scored, and I had checked last about two weeks ago, so sometime within that time frame, it occurred. I hope that this is helpful!

What does the status say exactly when you've been scored?

“Your application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their evaluation score from the Admissions Committee review. You will be contacted by email if you are selected for an interview. Interview invitations are extended between August and March.”

What does scoring mean and how do you know if you've been scored?
Scoring essentially means your app has been reviewed. I believe the status at the bottom of your portal changes to: “Your application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their evaluation score from the Admissions Committee review. You will be contacted by email if you are selected for an interview. Interview invitations are extended between August and March.”

UM is my top choice so I've looked into this a bit but basically your status changes to what was posted above when you're fully scored by 3 reviewers. I believe everyone's application is looked at and 'scored' but not everyone makes it through all 3 reviewers hence why the status doesn't change. Getting scored doesn't guarantee an II if you don't score high enough. However, you can still get scored at any point in time throughout the cycle and get an II immediately after. Some people are scored one day and offered II the next, some don't even know they're scored before getting an II.

I found this picture from an old thread and it might be a tad outdated but it gives an idea of how it works

Interesting!

What about CASPer? Is it not considered as part of scoring?

Very interesting. It's basically implying that they use some cutoff involving the 120 potential points below the line to determine whether or not you go to the reviewers to be scored. After all, if the reviewers are supposed to be independent, then scores from one should not determine whether or not a file moves on to the next.

It also shows when you are scored how you could literally do everything right and still lose up to 75 out of a potential 300 points if your life is not sufficiently interesting and if you were lucky enough to not have to overcome adversity. That could be very difficult to overcome for some, but shows how Miami really is taking steps to level the playing field.

Thank you very much for finding this and sharing. I'm sure things haven't changed that much, and this helps quantify why some are successful while others aren't. Among other things, it shows that "quality" of UG can provide up to a 10% bump. I wonder what score they assign their own UG. 🙂

Does Miami accept pre-II updates? Would I just email it since theres not a place on the portal?

this is a pretty old picture so i don't know if it reflects CASPer, it was from maybe 6-7 years ago
Do they score applicants all applicants in chronological order? Or do they auto-stratify on some grounds and then score them?

I managed to snag an interview on December 10th, do we know how long the turn around is for post II decisions?

When you get set up on The Hub app, they have a list of notification dates! The committee meets twice a month (except in Dec) and we were told the earliest we could hear back is about a month after my interview date, so my guess is you could hear back sometime in Jan at the earliest

Hey peeps, I was complete in early August but my secondary still says "currently under review by the admissions committee" and has not changed to any other stages. Are other people in this situation as well or should I reach out to Miami to see if something is missing with my application somehow?

+1 but complete early July. Admissions will send you back a scripted response and not care at all to provide any information into why our apps haven't been reviewed yet

I tried to reach out a month ago and the response was disappointing 🙁

Did anyone send thank you letters here? I forgot to ask for my interviewers' information, and I saw that last year some just emailed the admissions email. Is that still where it should be sent?

I just sent my thank you to the admissions email. Received a generic reply back indicating they “saved” the email I sent.
