Do you get to see who your interviewers are beforehand?

Hey, just wanted to ask if cornell's interview process this year is the same as last. Do you guys get an email with dates about 2 weeks in the future, and you schedule your interview through email? Or do they use a portal now?

it's via email but very efficient

Do we use the personalized zoom link they gave us for both the dean session and both our interviews ? Also , do we only log in at these 3 times and not all day ?

You log in with the Zoom link and then they'll put you into breakout rooms for your interviews! You only have to stay on for your interviews and the 1-3 dean session and you can log out in between 🙂

Does anyone know what the protocol is for sending a letter of interest to Cornell?

Don't....... it's cringe and u already showed ur intent by applying and/or attending interview

Letter of interest only ever help, imo, if ur already CTE at one school but another is trying to pull u off waitlist

Just because you can doesn't mean you should

I wouldn't listen to this person, a former coworker at Cornell who was part of the adcom process definitely disagrees with this. Showing interest in a med school isn’t cringe worthy at all, especially at this point in the process. A lot of people say “you already showed your interest by applying,” but so did the other thousands of applicants as well lol. If your interest in this school is genuine (more than your interest in other schools) and you have specific and thoughtful ways to demonstrate and discuss this, then go for it. It may not help, but it definitely won’t hurt if you spend the time on it. I always think it’s best to do an update and leave the last paragraph or two as the space to demonstrate continued interest (which is what it sounds like they plan on doing - so definitely encourage this).

^ whatever was said above.

What I did send to them was an update about accepted publications and updated grades from the Spring semester.

havent heard anything and complete in early/mid july... soft R?
I see you also posted this in another thread lol. I understand the worry/fear/stress of not knowing, but it's not over until it's over for any school. Remember these schools still interview through Jan/Feb meaning that there are still IIs to give. Most schools are likely 2/3rds-3/4ths of the way through, but there is still that last 1/4-1/3 left so not all hope is gone (which I know can be frustrating as sometimes it is easier to just get the R).

Also chronologically when you submitted really stops mattering in December as they have stopped receiving new apps and likely all ready reviewed every applicants app at that point in time (so selection for interviews becomes more random). Of course, I would suspect that at most individuals will hear from 3 schools between now and then, but your guess is as good as mine as to which ones, if any, that will reach out to you. Best thing you can do now is just to ride the wave.

I'm not one to argue but i just wanna make things clear incase this benefits anyone.

All ima say is that the day I made that comment I was literally at a post interview session at NYU and the dean said that letters of interest do not help onesoever, i simply repeated his words.

He said the only way they can possibly help is if you are CTE at one school and another school is deciding whether or not to pull you off the waitlist.

So sure you can find a "former coworker at cornell part of adcom process"(which is vary vague and can potentially include anything from med students and people barely even involved in any decision of significance ) meanwhile im specifically just telling the OP wat the actual dean of a highly regarded medical school told us.

All in all I just wanted to make it clear that I was just reiterating what a highly transparent Dean said and not just spewing rubbish

This obviously probably varies by school. If a letter of interest makes u happy, send it. Will it hurt? No. Is it a good use of time? Probably not

yes my advisors were telling that sometimes its "good" or bad if you havent heard from different schools yet so I figured I would ask people on each thread since the advising was not particularly helpful

I was not including more context for the sake of his and my anonymity, but I personally wouldn't have posted what I did if the information wasn't coming from a valid source -- aka he's definitely not a med student. However it is fair to remain skeptical on here because its sdn lol.

I agree with you that it varies by school (Ex. I know Hopkins dean said it doesn't help and I know Northwestern and GW have shown it can). For the context of this Cornell thread, I felt putting forward what I have heard was important. But also, again, my best advice is to send an update and include a paragraph at the end demonstrating specific interest. I personally believe that this is much more powerful than a letter of interest.

anyone interview for Cornell lately and send thank you notes? Ran out of time in my interviews to get their contact information but then later realized that the portal doesn't allow for uploads...

Yup, I sent notes via email. My interviewers did give me their contact info but you can look them up on the Cornell website if you remember their names and emails are there—I did this to make sure I had the correct addresses!
