2021-2022 Weill Cornell

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry this may be more of a general question but would you guys recommend sending a post-II Letter of Intent to Cornell if you don't have a significant update to share? I fell in love with this school even more after this interview and it's definitely now my top choice but I'm wondering if it'd be a waste of time to write that without an update since I'd basically just be saying "please let me in" at that point lmao

There is absolutely no evidence that such letters move the needle, anywhere, before you have an initial decision. They certainly will never turn a R into an A, and, of course, they are unnecessary if you are going to receive an A anyway. It will also not serve as a free pass off the WL if that's where the adcom has decided to send you, since at this stage you are being judged by the strength of your application rather than by the intensity of your desire to be accepted.

There is, however, anecdotal evidence, plus advice from some adcoms who post on SDN, that LOIs can be effective in moving you off a WL later in the cycle, since at that point the school has already made a determination that it would take you if it had space, and you are indicating a commitment to attend, which they love when pulling from the WL. Of course, if the WL has an internal ranking that is undisclosed, sending a LOI if you are low on the list won't help, but you won't know that, so you should send it anyway and see what happens.

Bottom line -- sending one pre-decision will never have the desired effect and will just come off as desperate, which could hurt later on. As difficult as it is, the only thing to do at this point is wait for a decision.

Hello!
Are the interviews one hour or 30 minutes?

Thanks for the honest write-up! That definitely makes sense, probably only somewhat effective if they're looking to pull off the WL. Guess i'll just hunker down for the next 2 months then haha

If you have an update and the school is receptive to them (not just Cornell, but any school), then you should definitely fire away. My advice relates strictly to letters of intent pre-decision, and definitely pre-II, which, believe it or not, some people also ask about.

The process is nerve wracking, and I'm climbing the walls as much as anyone while sitting around waiting for the inevitable avalanche of Rs. Like everyone else, I want to leave no stone unturned while doing everything possible to positively influence my outcome. It's easier said than done, but sometimes the best thing to do is to exercise restraint and do nothing while the adcoms do their thing, especially post-II.

Anyone complete in September receive an II yet? I'm sure there's been, completed 9/24 (OOS, LM 72-73, Hopeful!). Good luck and thanks all <3

Did everyone get it at the same time? Or is it just happening throughout the day?

Is WCMC receptive to Post II LOI?
Current M1 at WCMC! I sent one early February (about one month before admissions decisions were released). I think they’re pretty receptive, I don’t know if they had already decided I was admitted by the time I sent the letter or not, but my point being bc it can’t hurt!
