The medical school is raising admission standards for next year’s applicants. The David Geffen School of Medicine is raising its math and science GPA and MCAT cutoff scores to 3.4 and 512, respectively, according to a policy proposal released by school of medicine faculty and students.

I asked about this cut off from this very article during the Admissions Office Hours and they emphasized that it was holistic review

Anyone have any idea how UCLA uses preview scores? I got mine recently and got a 6/9. Not sure if that's good enough. Like is a 8/9 considered super good or something?

@Mr.Smile12 posted a video featuring UCLA adcomm. She said they are requiring it this year because they didn’t want people to worry about how it would affect them if they didn’t take it. As to how they use it, her answer was more ambiguous. It’s more information for them to look at in their holistic review. She said many people with 520+ MCATs don’t get in and alluded to the idea that PREview won’t keep you out.

In another video, Davis said they said something like using high scores to move people to the top of the pile for review.

Placing that much faith on a test like Preview is disturbing to the say the least
 
OOS, 517, preview 59th percentile, ~2k research hrs, 3k+ primary care hrs, 3.7 BCGPA, 3.3 overall, MS in physiology - applied MSTP. still waiting secondary invite
 
My preview score won’t come out until September 8. I’ve submitted my secondary already, does this mean my app won’t be complete/reviewed until they receive my preview score?
 
For the most unique leadership, entrepreneurial, or creative activity, would it be acceptable to talk about a leadership position in college that I did not discuss on my primary app? I'm a non-trad 5+ years out, so I actually had to cut out college activities and even bundle volunteering experiences to meet the 15 activity cutoff. Any insight would be appreciated!

I talked about something that wasn't in my primary specifically for this question and I got an II, so I think it's fine!

I think it can be framed as a creative activity, especially if it fits into your overall narrative.

Wow. I'd heard some uncertain rumors about UCLA screening for IAs before I chose to risk it and apply. While it may be too early to tell, it seems as of right now that the rumors are true :\

Yeah. I'm pretty disappointed that I may have been screened out due to a single event that occurred so long ago.

Nah. I just got my secondary today and my app was verified 6/1. I have an IA.

Other schools have implicit cutoffs that they hide under the disguise of "holistic reviews." what a trip they send us on...

best to you. you're stats are plenty good enough for many medical schools, especially if your essays are decent.

Current student and my MCAT was below 512! ucla does a true holistic review

CDU accepts 26 people each year and prime accepts 18. in total that is 44 students. divide 44 by a class of 175, you get 25% of the class being made up by CDU and PRIME. If you check MSAR UCLA's 25th percentile and overall metric range is quite wide. not saying that they don't do holistic review, but the stats from these programs do skew msar for sure.

You're assuming the distribution of stats for PRIME and CDU are on the lower end, thus skewing the distribution to the lowest percentile wholly. That is not the case. If only 10/26 students have lower stats and the rest don't, is your 10 now enough to skew the entire class? The point of my comment is that people really love assuming the predominantly minority cohorts are the reason for the lower stats when there is an incredibly varied distribution of stats among the CDU/PRIME cohorts AND the Geffen cohort. The lower stats could very well be attributed to 26 Geffen students.

I think it’s wild that we’re still having this conversation when several people have said that they fall below this mythical stats threshold and have gotten II.

In it you can see feedback including some of the frequent questions people were asked
 
I got an interview invite a couple days ago without having even signed up for PREview. My interview is set to be in the end of September. PREview results won't be released until October. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Did you have a committee letter by any chance? Sorry just wondering how strict they are with this... I have a packet and my school is extremely slow with stuff and aren't even fully in person due to COVID... I was wondering if it would really hurt me to not have a committee letter

My school did not offer committee letters - they were only doing letter packets! Also I think UCLA was one of the few schools that did not ask why a committee letter was not sent if it was available. I wouldn't worry about it! You got this!!!!! I am sure your professors will say lots of good stuff about you seriously !

I've seen this spreadsheet around for at least a few years now, I recognize it from before covid minimum. Any idea if someone is maintaining it or updating with more recent numbers?
 
did anyone who took the preview 7/14 ( and get their score back 8/17) receive an II?
 
For preview, I'm not 100% sure but I believe it is not required for II, it is looked at afterwards in place of an MMI score.
