I’m pretty sure there’s people who’ve been called who either aren’t on SDN or will post tomorrow. But I agree that there’s probably more calls tomorrow!

If there are actually calls going out today, do we think they’d happen before 5pm cst?

accepted almost 4 months ago and no word of a merit scholarship. Anyone else in a similar boat?

Looking at last year's thread it seems like people were called around this time in the late morning/early aft, and also someone was called on the saturday lol

Is there any current student in this group that could tell us about the program ? I just want to know how stressful the curriculum is and grading ? Also like other top schools , does washu send the clinical grades after the residency match? Any information is super helpful🙏🏽

I'm still waiting for possible merit as well! Seems like the amount of time can vary widely for the call

Seems like if you don't hear back by Tuesday of next week, assume WL or R.

Do they usually do calls on Mon/Tues or is that for the emails..?
Based on past years, from today on, each day becomes less and less likely for a call. Some may be accepted tomorrow (and in fact it seems like this has happened a couple of times), probably just a straggler or two on Sunday (if at all), usually nothing on Monday, but still possible (who knows). I wouldn't absolutely demand every year be the same as the prior year.

If you received an acceptance call sometime this week, you should get a confirmation of your A via an offer letter/email by next week.

But for those holding out for an A (I'm in this camp, cries in 515 MCAT), I wouldn't reorient my expectations until Tuesday to be sure. After that, I'd start reorienting myself for this school :)

I would agree with this based on my shamefully extensive stalking of previous years' threads. Sometimes a few calls go out on Saturday/Monday (I don't *think* I've seen one on a Sunday), but seemingly nothing past Monday. Of course, that's assuming things stay the same, which we never truly know, but yeah...I'm with you re: if we've heard nothing by Tuesday, it's WL/R.

Thanks for stopping by! I got good vibes from my interviews, and Wash U definitely has the biggest emphasis on research than any other school on my list, so I feel pretty good about most things. There's a general hearsay about WUSTL, though, that the student body is full of rigor and has an overly "gunner" mentality.
Could you give me your perspective on your class, and the general culture or impression you have so far?
So I got nervous last year when people on SDN talked about a gunner mentality at WashU but I really think that was the theme with the old curriculum… next year all of the med students will be part of the new curriculum which is incredibly collaborative (it’s going into its 4th year). The whole first year and a half is truly P/F and the only person who knows exactly how you are doing is you and your coach. None of my classmates really talk about their grades and I don’t think id call anyone a gunner (though there will always be one or two that go above and beyond wherever you go). WashU also gives you all the tools to succeed so I can say it’s actually quite hard to fail — just to name a few resources: free amazing tutors, learning specialists, coaches guiding you and talking through all your strengths and weaknesses, recorded lectures, practice quizzes for all exams, free UWorld, anki decks for all lectures (now being integrated with Anking), many forms of learning to appeal to all learning styles, anonymous forums to ask questions directly to the professor, group study sessions with free food, and more.

And of course med school isnt all in the classroom and it’s really the classroom time that can feel like a lot to students in your first year. So washu beautifully breaks up classroom time with breaks/holidays, EXPLORE, and immersions (low stakes time to explore and work in the clinical space for 3 weeks - 3 times). So anytime you start feeling burnt out, the end is always in sight and there’s always time to decompress.

So stress is pretty low. Assessment scores have nothing to do with the class average, so it keeps the focus on you rather than comparing yourself to others (we don’t even know the class average). There’s really no benefit to being a gunner so that’s not really a big part of my experience if at all.

In terms of culture, we have such a close class. WashU does tons of small group and medium group classes so you really get to work with everyone and it helps so much. Our class often goes out on the weekends to clubs or local bars — but there is something for everyone and the food scene is incredible. I’d say the majority of people have found super close friends in our class and everyone is generally social, kind, and present. There’s also many class couples already <3

From my experience, my friends and I go out, but we also watch movies regularly, have wine and paint nights, trivia nights, explore all the thrifting shops, take walks/picnics through the park, try new food, or even go to a National park, six flags, apple picking.

This is incredibly helpful and insightful for prospective students. Would you say the phase 2 really isn’t P/F because of the distinction that one can earn? I keep hearing others say WUSTL is P/F clinical but idk if that is true in practice.

Edited to be correct:

Clinical clerkships are “competent”/“not competent” with ways to stand out in certain competencies and earn distinctions.

I haven’t really heard of any schools that don’t do it in some form like this given you want to be able to stand out at this stage in your field of interest.

A few top schools have clerkships as true P/F and non-clerkship years as honors/HP/P/F so you can "stand out" as you put it (in which from my understanding, you get to choose what you're involving yourself in).

I don't think many if any schools have true P/F the entire time...even Harvard has "Distinction, Honors, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory" for post-PCE phase stuff like subinternships and clinical electives. I believe this is the same at most other schools.

I believe @MercifulCamper was asking about normal clerkshps at WashU. Given they have yet to put a class through clinical clerkships it's pretty ambiguous. If it's honors/HP/P/F that's much different than some peer schools.

Sorry guys I totally mis-spoke!

M3s have finished clinical clerkships with the new Gateway curriculum so I just checked with my big and grand big and it’s a more complicated version P/F. It’s basically “competent”/“not competent” and there are ways to get distinction in certain competencies if demonstrated throughout clerkships.

Sorry I’m only an M1 so some of the details later on are still new to me. But the jist: P/F with ways to stand out.

I believe @MercifulCamper was asking about normal clerkships at WashU. Given they have yet to put a full class through clinical clerkships/phase3 in the new curriculum + the bin grading system, it's pretty ambiguous. If it's honors/HP/P/F that's much different than some peer schools, but if the distinction stuff only applies after then it wouldn't be any different.
isnt the honors/hp/p/f system pretty common at t20 schools? Most do this tiered system and I was under the impression that wash u also did this tiered system for clerkships. This is what I found: Grading System < Washington University in St.Louis
Basically says that its tiered PF for clerkships. @babybluee could you elaborate where the distinctions come in/what they actually are?
