Just got the call for the MD program!!! I honestly can’t believe it and I wasn’t expecting to get a call on Christmas Eve. I’m beyond grateful and I will most likely commit because I absolutely love this school!!

Thank you so much!!!! Congrats to you as well!!

I look forward to meeting you and can’t wait to experience life in STL. Do you know when the Second Look event is by any chance?

MSTP second look is 4/13/2023-4/16/2023, so if I had to guess, the MD second look is sandwiched somewhere in there

Just curious - research/publications ECs heavy? WashU is an awesome school.
I did 2 years of research at an Ivy which actually collaborated with WashU. Other than that, my ECs are pretty average.

WashU is certainly an amazing school and I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity.

I just want to clarify what this rolling admissions process means. Are all admissions given out in a 'rolling' manner, or do some people still get notified of acceptance in March?

similar question. I interviewed 11/09, although for MSTP, but I have heard nothing. Looks like I am out of the game for washu. Thank God I already have an A otherwise I will be crying my eyes out now

I think the vast majority of A's come in march for everyone (based on last couple years threads), these recent ones are primarily URM/locals/other highly desirables I think?

MSTP's decision-making process lasts until February my dude...lots of people last year interviewed at WashU in October or November and didn't get accepted for MSTP until late January or early February.

And then of course seconding what everyone said about the MD timeline

Just got an II here! Totally unexpected, but very grateful - II's are still coming out! I see that there's a standardized interview - is that and booking a virtual tour the only things I have to do in advance of actually interviewing? Also any tips for MD interviewees?

Edit: Forgot to add info.
OOS ORM no ties, complete in September, LM 82.4

I was accepted MSTP but still did the 2 MD interviews. I found both of them to be very conversational! For the closed-file one, you should try to drive the conversation and bring up what you think are the interesting sides of yourself — the interviewer will know nothing about you besides your name and whether you applied MD or MD-PhD

MSTP II 12/27 but had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict. Just got an MD II, complete 8/12.

Was curious if anyone knows anything about merit-based scholarships at WashU? I've done some digging around on the website, but all I can gather is that they exist (Financial Support | Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis) and around 20 students/class receive full-tuition scholarships (Washington University commits $100 million to MD scholarships, education, but this is a press release from 2019)

II today what a surprise! Can someone explain what the Kira talent interview is like and what the actual interview day process is like? First time doing it and its been a sec since I've interviewed haha
Without giving too much away, it's a lot like the video recorded portion of CASPer i.e. situational judgment

Bye @thegourd 🙁 I wanted to meet you at some point

Based on my being around WUSM students / knowing people who got accepted in past years, I think there are also a lot of partial scholarships. It's likely because WUSM pulls the same people that get accepted to other T5s and T10s so the medical school will sweeten the pot by giving out some money lol

I also read this article a while ago: Wash U Announces Free Tuition For Up To Half Of New Med Students. The most salient parts:
The money will make it possible for up to half of the school’s approximately 100 incoming students pursuing an M.D. degree each year to receive full-tuition scholarships to the medical school, ranked among the nation's best. Others will receive partial support. About 20 current students per class have a full scholarship, and another 40 receive some kind of scholarship. Students pursuing a combined medical and doctoral degree already get a full ride, Aagaard said.
Unlike other schools, Washington University isn’t offering full rides to everyone. The medical school will determine who receives scholarships based on a combination of merit, interest in studying academic medicine and financial need, Aagaard said.

EDIT: I just realized you linked the same article, I can't read. I think it's still in effect though

@thr1932359 I'll dox myself if you dox urself 😝😝 fr though, I think we're gonna run into each other at some point. I'm starting to realize the physician-scientist community is actually quite small. And turns out I can't read either LMAO, completely missed the part where they said up to half the MD class will receive full-tuition scholarships 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@ssf20000 thanks for the additional info! Glad to hear they're adding more funds for scholarships and feeling pressure to be more competitive in terms of costs

Some of the other applicants over in the Physician-Scientist forum already know who I am LOL, typically because we interviewed together and ran into each other after the fact online. To that end, I know who they are, too. There's always the risk that someone will broadcast my identity, unfortunately, but that's why I try to keep my online presence clean 😳

Back onto WashU-related talk: WUSM's yield rate has historically been something like 30-35%. The MSTP's yield rate is ~40% based on what I know about the post-interview acceptance rate, so that means the MD-only yield rate is even lower than 30-35% (esp. since MSTP students are a sizable chunk of the entering class). I imagine it's a combination of fancier schools admitting WUSM admits, scholarships or other financial incentives from T20s, and just plain location -- STL isn't the first city that comes to mind for a lot of people when they hear the words "desirable location" for a variety of reasons. I can safely say that the city's grown on me though as someone from California and I'm excited for what the next 8 years have in store!

So you can imagine WUSM is doing a lot to try and get more admits committing to the school. Lightening the financial burden is one of the most straightforward ways for them to do so given how much money WashU can throw around (on an unrelated note, this is something the undergraduate school has been doing as well because WUSTL loses cross-admit battles often to Ivies, public Ivies such as UC Berkeley, UCLA and Michigan, and T10s -- the financial aid WashU gave me when I got accepted made it cheaper to attend for undergraduate than UC in-state tuition)

Received an II today complete in August. Interview dates seem to be taken up - anyone else with this problem? Emailed the committee but they are out until Tuesday

II today! Complete mid-Aug, OOS with ties, available dates from late January through mid-February

I heard WashU started handing out some full-tuition scholarships to admitted students this cycle already. Not sure how many they offer.

II here on the 29th, july applicant. Ngl kinda intimidated by WashU and shocked at this II but excited bc I love it 🙂) is there one closed file and one open file faculty interview ?
Congratulations!!! Yes, one closed file and one open file (in addition to the asynchronous interview which you will ideally have to complete before your interview day).

From my experience, both interviews were conversational. They did ask me more traditional questions during the closed file one but they allow you to take the lead and highlight your experiences. Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and everyone was so friendly and supportive. I wish you the best of luck, you got this!!

One last question -I have read one place that it is open file and another that it is one open and one closed. Can anyone confirm what they had. Thanks

II last week and literally broke down crying! I didn’t do too well on Casper and am wondering what resources did people find useful in getting ready for Kira?
I suited up and bumbled my way through it at 2 AM, got in. In my opinion, you should have a few scenarios ready for things like "tell me about a time when X" and practice making eye contact with a camera.

How soon after your interview do you hear back in regard to a decision??
I interviewed in October and have yet to hear back. I'm wondering if it's true what some people here have said, that they accept a few highly desirable applicants first and then wait to send the bulk of them until March.

same situation 😢 I think the rapid turn around are for the exceptional applicant who would likely get other T20 acceptance so washu need to secure them ASAP; whereas vast majority that pass their lane would be released on March

Yeah that is the consensus. My partner was accepted a month and a half after interviewing (September interview, early November acceptance) and she's got an interview at 80% of the places she's applied including 10+ T20 interviews. I interviewed the same day and have not heard back and realize that she is a superstar whereas I would "pass their lane"

I think it is also partly just chance and what school you "fit" at! 😉

Just because you haven't been accepted yet doesn't mean you're not a fantastic applicant!! I interviewed in Sept as well and still haven't heard back but have been accepted by T10s.
