Not sure about the tuition. Most of my classmates live in off campus housing in shadyside or Oakland. Some live in university housing (Darragh apartments), but these fill up quickly because the location is convenient. Oakland/north Oakland and shadyside are pretty safe and nice areas as far as I know.

I lived closer to pitt (4 hour drive) and didn’t visit. I don’t really think you need to. Just do some research online on the cities attractions and neighborhoods and/or connect with people from the area to learn more.
 
Considering adding Pittsburgh to my school list, but online it says the interview season is from August to December 2023. If interview dates are already November and later, is it too late to submit a secondary?
 
Does anyone have any insight into why scheduling is now up to November? Does pitt just offer all their interviews in the first couple weeks? I find it a little hard to believe that most of their slots are gone 2 weeks into August...
 
I believe they went into the end of January last year! I would maybe check last year's sdn page

I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. This is my third cycle applying and I’m asking if anyone knows what I’m doing wrong. I got 3 interviews my first cycle (didn’t get in anywhere), I think maybe 2 secondaries my second cycle (no interviews or acceptances), and this cycle I applied beginning of July but have not heard anything from anyone, not even secondaries. I know I’m not the best applicant but I really thought I was at least somewhat competitive and I’m just feeling really hopeless. My stats are:
Mcat: 522
Cum gpa: 3.72
Science gpa: 3.93
Shadowing/volunteering: 300+
Research: 3 years (including one at Penn)
For this year, I was able to add scribe and medical assisting to my resume and experiences as well.
Sorry this was so long and don’t mean to add onto anyone else’s worries, just thought I’d try to get an outsiders perspective. Good luck to all!!!

You might wanna direct this to the WAMC thread! But if you don’t mind me asking, how many schools are you applying? Most schools do not screen for secondaries and you should’ve receive most if not all of them with your stats! Good luck!

Those are some really good stats. Maybe you should submit to medical school headquarters. Have you seen any of their videos? It might be something in your essays. They have a number of videos that might be helpful. Not getting secondaries doesn’t make any sense when there are so many schools that send them automatically.

Thank you so much for this reply! I’ve never heard of medical school headquarters or their videos. Is there a link or organization you can point me in the direction of?

Oh what’s that? I’ll add it! Can you give me some more information on that?
And my first cycle I applied to 11 (I know very low, I’m a first gen med student and didn’t have much knowledge on the ins and out of the process), second cycle I applied to 16, and this cycle I’ve applied to 30

Has your application been verified by AMCAS? If it has, you should have started to receive secondaries unless maybe something happened with your email? 2 secondaries last year out of 16 schools also makes absolutely no sense either.

I agree with @Labe
A lot of schools don't prescreen for secondaries, so the issue might be something on the tech side? Maybe reach out to the schools that don't prescreen (you can check on MSAR or the free AAMC reports) to make sure nothing went wrong? I know some people on other threads had to do that and got their missing secondaries...

Also, WAMC is "What are my chances", it should be under Forums → Pre-Med → MD (or DO) → WAMC

Yeah AMCAS was verified. And I did that last year and every admissions team just told me to wait and be patient, that there wasn’t anything wrongwhich I understand but it’s just very anxiety-inducing and considering this my last year before my MCAT expires and I feel like I’ve tried to cover all the bases I could.

Something is absolutely not right here if you only received 2 out of 16 secondaries last year and 0 for 30 this year. I would make sure everything is ok with your own email and also reach out (with lots of follow up as necessary) to schools.

I know this is a little late but: OOS II recieved at 1 p.m. central time on Aug 3th; 3.88 cGPA 3.84 sGPA 521 MCAT (132, 129, 131, 129) LM 76.80 WARS 94 (up to 101 depending on generosity); Verified 07/18; Secondary Recieved and Submitted 07/19; disadvantaged status; T10 undergrad

Sorry just gonna make sure, you understand that II on here is not secondary but interview invite. So when you're saying you haven't received any secondaries for your 30 schools that's meaning the supplemental applications for each school after your AMCAS, not interviews right?

Yeah haha I know II is interview invite but I appreciate you double checking. But yeah I haven’t received my supplemental applications. I submitted my primary AMCAS application, got verified, and it’s been radio silence since then. I would love to have the problem of not getting interviews but I’m stuck in the step before that 😅

Sheesh yeah definitely email schools. I would first call AMCAS to make sure your application was actually transmitted though. Statistically higher chance AMCAS made a mistake than 30 whole schools making the same mistake for your app

Yeah will do. I’ve called AMCAS and the schools both last cycle and this cycle and everyone just says they have everything and to keep waiting. But I’ll still keep calling.

Too late to add this school? I have decent stats MCAT/GPA and excellent EC. Also a former athlete but do not have that much research under my belt.

Pitt is a big research school, so if you don't have much then I would probably recommend against applying. Maybe if your MCAT/GPA are high enough to offset it then I would try, but even then its getting later in the cycle during late August for a T20.
 
I feel like Pitt is almost out of interview dates at this point. When I scheduled the only option was mid-late November or December and they said interviews go until January 12th on their website

Last year they interviewed over 1000 applicants, did they really send out that many interviews already?

I think they said they will interview 750 this cycle. But I’m not sure if that considers people who are put on hold for an interview

Darn, wish I had known that was going to happen before I applied... I added them later, so I was complete on 8/4. I was hoping for an II since I have good mission fit, but it looks like no one complete in August has gotten a II yet and now there might not be any left for us 🙃
