According to the admissions office, there has been waitlist movement already, and it will continue through the day before orientation. Again, the WL isn't ranked, and the size of the WL was not available for popular consumption.

for realz? and here i was thinking i was doomed to may...:xf:

*hastily finishes financial aid forms*

so upon realizing i could apply for financial aid despite not being accepted, i logged into the wash u financial aid app using my SS# as a first time login. i looked at the first page of the app and decided not to fill it out now so closed it. now i can't log back into either the first time login (i'm guessing b/c now the system has recorded my SS) nor the returning user login (requires SS AND DOB, but my DOB was not saved b/c i did not save/submit my financial app)....this happen to anyone? ideas? 🙁

Awesome! Except I won't know who any of you are when I meet you. Are y'all in the FB group??

I'm uncool and I don't have a Facebook. Let's develop a complex system of hand signals to identify one another.

bump!

call/email and let them know your situation? they're pretty nice about things

yah. i'm going to in the morning. i just figured it happened to someone else and i would ask someone on the forum. oh well.

So some of you who are on the waitlist are filling out financial aid stuff? Where did you get the links? I emailed the committee about forms and they told me only accepted students should worry about the forms. Confused.

Any other things I should look into while I'm waiting to hear back from the committee?

there is a link in the waitlist email.

Someone mentioned earlier that the adcom has started to accept people off the wait list. But last year it seemed as though that didn't happen until after May 15th. Is it something like a slow trickle of acceptances until after May 15th?

Has anyone heard anything about the WL... even last year when did it start to move? Any current Wash U students with info on their classes from previous years, would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi there, I probably should've been monitoring this thread for a while, but hey hindsight is 20/20. I might've met some of you at second look weekend (or maybe not), but I was wondering if y'all had a facebook group or anything for accepted students and how do I get in on that party.

Also, I've been in StL for the past 4 years (WashU undergrad), so if any of you are on the fence and want yet another perspective on what it's like out here (hint: I'm happily staying another 4 years in the midwest), feel free to ask as well.

P.S. good luck to all the waitlisted students! :xf::xf::xf:

I saw that someone said there has been movement off the WL is that true??? Can anyone who's been accepted this year off the WL confirm

I would like to find out too... I think it's possible, but it would probably be a very small group of people.
Anyone have an idea of when the committee might meet to discuss the waitlisted applicants?

I just withdrew. Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

Did you call the admin office and they told you they had taken people from the WL or you "heard" it from sdn?

I called the office and the lady said (unprompted, if I remember correctly) that students had already been taken off. Hopefully we can trust the horse's mouth.

Well that's not a very nice thing to call that nice lady!

So who's going here?

*points with two thumbs* This guy!

But serious business, I'm pumped.

Anyone gonna be around this summer? (I just posted that on the fb group, but two places is better than one, right? right?)

*points with two thumbs* This girl!

I'm doing the research-y thing. And I'm beyond excited about it. Just finished my proposal. It's gonna be fun. Yay new, more exciting research!

Now I know who you are too! Question is, do you know who I am? It's not that hard.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have let me into WashU if I couldn't solve that puzzle. =P

Wonder why I didn't see you at Second Look? I can't imagine you didn't go if you're as excited as I am.

Uggh,

Most of these top-10 schools should refine their websites. It is impossible to get any meaningful information from them. I don't mean to single out WashU (only Yale and UCSF) actually have aesthetically pleasing and informative websites.

Rumor is that they're redesigning the website to make it better. I have to agree that med school websites are generally horrible. Did you guys see the the Texas school application before they changed it this year? I swear it looked like something that showed up on geocities in the mid 95s. There were animated gifs and blink tag use and buttons that look like they were generated using those websites. I took one look at that and decided not to apply to texas schools.

I may have met some of you guys during 2nd look! I took a bunch of MD/PhDs to City Museum and Pappy's BBQ. We squeezed like 6 people into my new honda civic!

Withdrew today. Good luck all, I hope the spot goes to someone who loved it at WashU!

I know, seriously. Hopefully in 5 days, WashU gets moving on that waitlist. Acceptances for all! (If only they listened to me...)

Yeah.. there's hardly any activity here.

So.. does WashU send out acceptances on the 15th? Or is that just a myth? I'm getting all fidgety.

FWIW, I was accepted off of the WL on 5/18 last year, which was a Monday. That means 5/15/2009 was a Friday, and I'm pretty sure there were acceptances that day.

i feel like it might be till monday till we hear back, as the 15th is on a saturday. of course, if it is all computerized then people might just get emails or something on saturday.

Thanks for that info....fingers crossed:xf:

Thanks for the info, bro.
BTW, do they give grant to students who got off the waitinglist?

Yep, they gave me some need based aid, but no scholarship money. There were some students who got full-tuition scholarships coming off the WL, but they were mostly women/minorities (presumably because of turned-down Olin money and/or rarity of certain races at WashU; we're not a super diverse student body).

Sure it does, in the sense that I'm working my butt off and I feel that I have a right to the fruits of my labor. Pre-meds work hard, but it's a completely different ball game. I never referenced the experience of medicine. I referenced the experience of medical school.

I'm not sure why I'm on this thread since I don't go here but I finished first year today and I'm overwhelmed with the free time I have.

I just wanted to reiterate that not everyone feels this way. It's not a premed vs med student thing. My own class is very torn on the issue, even though the Chancellor of the hospital actually went on record saying he supports the bill.

I'm personally more of the "I worked my butt off my first year purposefully so I'd be able to help people" mindset. I've always believed basic healthcare was a right and am ok with giving up part of my salary for it. FWIW, I worked for 2 years between college and med school so this isn't some naive never-had-to-earn-a-salary-for-survival viewpoint. And I'm hardly a bleeding heart. It's just a different viewpoint. I accept that despite the fact that I don't go to public school, my taxes go to the public school system. I accept that my taxes go toward roads I don't drive on, and services I don't know about, and things like medicare and social security. I have also not had insurance before, and know how terrifying that can be.

So yeah, moral of the story: regardless of where you go, you'll probably encounter very mixed feelings about this, and it has nothing to do with your background or your level of education and everything to do with your own motivations for working as hard as you do, and with your personal moral compass.
