That seems to be the "complete" email, because the "we received your secondary application!" is different. So you should be all set, I would assume, and wait for an invite hopefully 🙂
 
my bro is a student there and i've visited a bunch of times, definitely don't want to be walking outside at night

This is really sad. After reading the article and reader responses to it (responses on the Baltimore Sun website, not SDN that is), I'm seriously questioning Baltimore as a place to live and study.

I'm not familiar with the various sections of Baltimore, but the article made it sound like this robbery/murder happened in one of the better parts of town.

If you are a Baltimore resident and are reading this, what would you say to someone who has safety-related concerns about moving their family to your city?

It's not really safe place to live both Hopkins and UMB, if you read the interview feedback website, you'll see that a lot of interviewees were told by adcoms that they were mugged few times.

Baltimore is not the safest city in the U.S., and if you are concerned about living here because of the murder of one researcher then I would have to agree that this city is definitely not for you.

On the other hand, there is no place in the country like Baltimore. I love it.

the murder was horrible. especially the details of it were almost unbearable.

but regardlesss, hopkins will still see 5000 or whatever applicants and will matriculate a full class, one murder or a 100 murders, so don't worry about it. people may decide its not for them, but that choice is made at other schools as well for hunders of reasons.

After living there for four years, I can say with no regrets that Baltimore is the worst place I've EVER been to. You really shouldn't walk alone in that city at night if you're a female, and even if you're a male, it's not that great of an idea. The article says it was in the "nicer" part, but realize the bad part is literally a block away from the nice part. In just one year, my house was broken into once, attempted a second time, and my housemate's car was broken into. I don't say this to stop you from applying to Hopkins (it's a great school, obviously) but don't be fooled by how nice Baltimore is made out to look by some people.

I lived in Baltimore for 5 years now after moving here for college. During those years, I have been mugged at gunpoint at 5 pm (in broad daylight!) walking one block from campus (on broadway st), and the townhouse I currently live in has been broken into twice... After a while you become desensitized and stop living in fear.
So, yes, Baltimore is definitely not the safest city in the US. As a male or female, no one should be walking out at night.

That said...Hopkins is a great school and as a med student you will get an excellent education, no questions asked. So don't get discouraged. You should still apply. However, just realize that you have to be extra cautious.
 
I submitted secondary 7/19 and haven't received a complete email yet. Anyone have a timeline of when they submitted and when they received the complete e-mail? I think Hopkins is one of the schools where they tell you specifically not to call to ask about it right?

NO because my letters are not in and i received the same email
 
Would moving to a new country and having to learn a new language and adapt to a new culture an "adversity"?
 
Unless by moving to a new country you mean study abroad or something else extremely short-term, then I disagree with Cole and think that could be a great answer. There are very few things in life more stressful than uprooting your life, especially if it wasn't your choice and especially if it involves moving to a place extremely foreign to you.

In general, I think we each know whether something that happened to us caused real adversity. If it's something that you think back upon as a tough time in your life, go on and write about it. If it seems like a stretch to you, it'll seem like a stretch to others. The burden is on us as writers to prove how our experiences affected us, so if we can't explain why some experience caused real trouble, others won't believe it fits the prompt.

I'm wondering this too. I submitted my secondary on 7/9, my AMCAS was verified 7/14 and got the "receipt of Johns Hopkins Secondary Application" email on 7/19. It says they will send an e-mail when my application is complete and ready for review by the committee on admission. Still haven't gotten that final confirmation email, so I'm not sure if I should be checking somewhere...

What do I do if my AMCAS app hasn't been verified yet, and I don't know my GPAs? Should I input 0.00 for those values? Or wait until my AMCAS app is processed to get those values?

I would say wait. THey are not gonna look at your application if you are not verified anyway so just hold on
 
I called JHU they said they haven't started sending anything out yet in terms of confirmation and that I should just sit tight. submitted 7/19.
 
submitted probably a month ago, finally got an email saying they received my application, but that they will send me another e-mail when i am "complete" (even though i know everything is already in)

i was already laughing my a** off at this point. Too good.

Anyway, I'm not a Baltimore resident or anything but I am in Maryland for my SIP and spend time at the Institute for Genome Sciences (Biopark campus right off the express way) and it doesn't really seem that bad. I also have a friend there that lives in Federal Hill (right near the harbor, it's really nice actually), and she hasn't had any problems since the beginning of the summer. But, we are from Detroit so I guess anywhere is safer than Michigan's horrid city.

So my question is how exactly do I check my AMCAS to see if my letters have been received? I went to the AMCAS website and I clicked on the tab for medical schools and for letters of recommendation, but that doesn't say if they've received it or not.

Can someone help me.

When I called the secretary told me just to make sure that AMCAS has your letters.
 
Has anyone submitted their secondary application using a fee waiver? The instructions tell you to email someone at JH (valerie mazza is her name, i think?) with a copy of your waiver and she would allow you to submit bypassing the payment page.

I emailed and haven't heard anything...
 
Just got the following "Complete" e-mail:

CONFIRMATION OF COMPLETE APPLICATION

We have received all materials required in support of your application to The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Your application will now be sent to the Committee on Admission for review. This process may take anywhere from several weeks until the end of April before a decision is reached. We will contact you as soon as possible after the Committee has completed its review of your application.

Finally got an e-mail saying my application is complete and being sent to the committee for review. It only took a decade.

Man I submitted 7/7, still no complete email.
 
Secondary submitted...please please please give me an interview. I know it's dangerous and there have been multiple muggings recently..but i want in :|
 
I submitted my secondary on 7/15 and still have not received the complete email. Should I be concerned?
 
I never received a secondary invite even though I submitted my primary 6/1. I guess I'll just send in my secondary anyways.

yeah. i never received a secondary invite either. i was verified over a month ago.
 
The JHU SOM website states that they require "Two (2) letters from faculty members in science departments who have taught you and one (1) letter from a non-science faculty member who has taught you."

I am a non-traditional student who graduated in 2007. Although I do have letters that fulfill these requirements, I also have letters from recent lab supervisors that are much more relevant in addressing my qualifications for medical school. The website does not say anything about extra letters or a maximum number acceptable, so should I assign these more recent letters to Johns Hopkins as well?
 
I received the secondary a while ago but I'm still debating whether I should complete it since I have too many stretch schools (I was expecting a higher MCAT). I have a 33S/3.85 for both GPAs. Think I have a shot here and is it worth applying here even though I am already complete at many other stretch schools?
