I would recommend looking into doctors you have seen and maybe one of them graduated from Chicago Medical School. It turns out the man that did my dad's surgery (that I mentioned in my PS) graduated from Rosalind and still is on the alumni board of directors. He's always mentioning to my parents that I should apply to rosalind. I'm just writing those two sentences... though I do know more people have gone there (but I'm from the chicago area)

Yeah I asked the doctors I worked with where they went, and none were from Chicago......I'm not going to fib, I'm from Cali lol

Well then... you can mention that they have the most interesting dean in the world (based on one of the youtube links above). If you are nontraditional, they also have a rep of accepting non-trad students. My family's opinion is that they have an excellent match list -- we know someone who went there for medical school and then mayo for residency. But I don't know how true that is.

Well one of the reasons why I'm applying is bc they have some linkage with georgetown's smp program I'll be attending this fall. I took a year off after college to work and I'm going to be spending this cycle year at gtown so am I considered non trad?

I would probably mention hearing about rosalind via georgetown's SMP program. But I consider anyone non-trad is they don't start medical school right after undergrad.

Hey Guys

To anyone who has received the secondary is it

1. At Rosalind Franklin University, we celebrate and support a Life in Discovery. Briefly describe what a Life in Discovery means to you.

2.
Future physicians, research scientists, and other healthcare professionals are expected to work in an inter-professional environment, and Rosalind Franklin University allows students to learn in such an environment. Describe what you envision to be your greatest challenge in working on an interprofessional
team.

Yes, and "How did you hear about Rosalind Franklin University?"

If you are talking about Dean Ross, he just got a position at WVU.

Also, if anyone has any questions regarding applying to RFU, PM me. I was an accepted student from the previous cycle, but am going elsewhere to stay close to home.

OKAY!

Easy way to type into the RFU PDF File!

Go to www.pdfescape.com

Upload the PDF File, and use the typing features to copy and paste or type your essays and responses and save the file at the end!

Hope this Helps!

How did you guys attach your photo? I was going to use a glue stick, but it says we're suppose to write our name on the back of it, making me think they don't want it glued?

I think that's in the case it gets detached from the photo...I printed mine directly onto the form...so it won't "fall off"

I am having the hardest time with the Life in Discovery question!

Hi, I was wondering as of now (July 5th), can anybody access the website? (http://www.rosalindfranklin.edu/) It's down for me, and I tried it on a few computers and it's inaccessible for them as well... something about Server Errors.

i wasn't able to access the site since saturday...anyone else encounter this technical problem?

I tried on my home computers/laptops/local library and got server error messages on all. I'm pretty tech-challenged though so wasn't sure if I needed to do something about the web.config thing in the message. Glad to know it's not us and it's something wrong with the school. Not to mention their website looks so outdated, my first thought was "What? This is for a real school? A real medical school??"

i guess it is their server problem then..
does anyone has the supplemental application in PDF? I want to start working on it, so if possible, can someone forward me PDF file?
my email is [email protected]

greatly appreciated.

I opened it online on Friday but stupidly didn't print it out -- now I can't get it back!

Can someone please email to me too, if you have it saved?

My email is [email protected]

Thanks so much!!

the site is up again!
for those of you who have troubles viewing it earlier.

For ALL MAC Users!!

Okay, I found a way to type in the boxes....I'm using Snow leopard so it might be different on 10.5 or 10.4

Anyway, click the "annotate" button on the top of your document (works in the Preview.app) then a little menu pops up on the bottom. Click the fourth button (it looks like a box with "Aa" in it) and drag a text box over the questions. Then format the text (I use Times new roman 12pt) and type away!

Hope this helps!

guess most people didn't read the thread.

thanks for this.

Do you guys think it would be strange if I walked up to the office and handed them my secondary? I hate mailing things.

Do it! 🙂 At least then you are 100% sure it got there.

"How did you hear about Rosalind Franklin University?"

I honestly first read about it in the MSAR, that's how I first learned about most schools, then researched them online. Is MSAR an okay answer?

This is what I said 🙂

Got an email yesterday (7/6) saying my secondary application has been received.

I haven't actually gotten a secondary from them. Did you all get an e-mail, or are you filling out the prompt above. When I go to the link posted above, it says that a username and password is needed.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

What are we supposed to write for the discovery of life essay. I am so confused

I hear you man. These are strange questions. I just don't know what to say.

When I applied, I wrote about how human beings were ever-changing creatures and how medicine is, as well. I then discussed how medicine has changed throughout the years and how physicians have to continue learning to know the best ways to treat their patients. I defined a life in discovery as one where you are continually gaining knowledge, but no matter what point you are at, realize that there is much to learn.

my life in discovery essay was like "commitment to continued learning...blah blah blah...medicine is evolving, you gotta evolve with it to help patients...blah blah"
i was actually pretty proud of the pure and utter BS i was able to spout off:laugh:

same

I thought this essay was one of the easier ones.

I hate the stressful situation or moral dilemma questions. I'm a reapplicant and I've used all mine up lol... now IDK what to do

What are the character/word limits for the essay questions? Just curious so maybe I can start writing these.

It was a pdf file with a box to type/write your response. Your limit depended on your font size. I would say, given normal font size, the limit is a little less than half a page single spaced.

last year.... when it actually had enter-able text fields, when you typed to the end of the box, it would shrink the font. You could continue doing this until the text was un-readable I think.

I sent the PDF to my computer engineer friend this time around who like hacked it or something to open the fields, and they were the same style.

So I think that there is no limit really. Until you think someone can't read it lol...

For anyone wondering about time to be complete. I mailed my app 7/3, was received 7/7, and marked complete today (7/8).

I like the quick turnaround at RFU

Did you receive an e-mail when you were complete, or is there a status update site that I missed? I received an email saying that they received my supplemental, but I don't see why they wouldn't have received my LORs yet since they were sent out with my primary.

did anyone send the app in without attaching a photo? It is a huge pain in the ace to have to go out and waste time to go get passport size photos.

I got the one saying received and then another one saying complete and ready for review by the committee

No, that shrink-font feature is not available this year. By the way, for those of you who downloaded earlier, the school seems to have changed the pdf so that if you download now, it has text boxes that you can type in.

I measured that it is about 1900 characters each for the first two essays, and about 750 characters for the how-you-hear-Rosalind essay.

So can you only type the amount that fits into the box? If so, I'm so mad. Why does the stupid form allow you to continue to type so that the box lets you scroll down with a scroll bar, but then when you try to print this app, the only thing that appears is what fits in the box and not your entire essay! 😡😡😡😡😡 Why does it let you continue to type when it won't print it? So dumb (or maybe I am for not figuring this out). What a complete waste of my valuable time on an essay that was too long because I simply wasn't given a prompt on what the appropriate size for the essay should be. 👎

Thanks!

Wow, 750 characters on how you heard about Rosalind... umm all I can really say is that I saw RF in MSAR... is that bad??

I very seriously doubt the answer to this question matters for admissions.

Ok this question wasn't really answered, but is there any way we can do the secondary completely on the computer? I reallllly don't feel like mailing this **** out.

thanks!

You must complete the PDF and send it in via snail mail...that's just how the system works? I think that was explicitly stated in the application...

My question is whether anyone has received a "complete" email but did not have their check cashed by RFU?

I think I'm in the same boat. last year, schools that did this didn't cash my check for a while.
