So one thing that I was wondering about is how much patient contact do students get at Cornell? My understanding is the school sees very affluent patients that do not want a student working on them.

Can any current students comment on this?

1. NYP/WCMC (our major affiliate, and the one in our campus) is a teaching hospital. Training medical students is one of its priorities.
2. Although NYP is in the Upper East Side, that doesn't mean all of its patients come from the immediate area. This is a major hospital that gets patients from all corners of the city.*
3. Cornell has affiliations with many hospitals in other parts of Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and other nearby areas. You will do many of your rotations at some of these sites.

Lastly, while the 14th floor of NYP is mostly off-limits to medical students (perhaps this is what you've heard about), this is something that happens in many hospitals in the city (and other parts of the country). For a pretty interesting read, take a look at this article that mentions the efforts at Sinai, Columbia, and Cornell: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/n...ble-baths-not-your-average-hospital-room.html. I should note that in these hospitals, the "special" rooms are only available to relative stable patients. If someone is in a critical condition they will be in the ED/ICU/etc with everyone else.

*Beacon Hill is one of the most (if not the most) affluent neighborhoods in Boston, yet few people believe this negatively affects medical-student education at MGH.

nuitsanetoiles, good to see you here. It seems like the great Columbia to Cornell thread migration is beginning. And we're brining our crazy with us. 😏

Haha, precisely! Doesn't seem like I had too much luck with Columbia, so now I'm focusing my attention on Cornell and hoping for a better result. To be honest, I liked my experience at Cornell a bit more than Columbia's anyway (though both are amazing schools!). Plus, it seems like Cornell offers a lot of financial aid (avg indebtedness is pretty low, esp for a private school) The students at Cornell were the most chill out of all the schools I interviewed at and the facilities and everything were top notch. I got the impression that the school was very cutting edge/experimental in terms of teaching rather than relying on traditional methods. PBL, every student gets an ipad, pass/fail, finals are oral, tons of extracurricular opportunities encouraged, etc. I really like that.

Ahh, I'd love to get an acceptance from here! 😀

Unlike Columbia, seems like Cornell does the humane thing and sends out acceptances over e-mail. Also last year, everyone who was initially accepted found out on the same day and all the WL's on the next. On top of it all, there is no date or leaks to be obsessed about.. just gotta check your e-mail normally and probably some day next week someone will find their acceptance email. It's a lot less neurotic of a process than Columbia, that's for sure.

Another Columbia to Cornell migrant. I feel like a refugee on SDN.

Another migrant! Hopefully good news (or at least some news) is in store for us soon!

So guys...think decisions are coming out tomorrow?

It's quite possible...

Considering last year the decisions came out on 8th and the year before on the 3rd then hey Monday, the 5th is right in the middle of that.

My guess is on Tuesday the 6th..

I'm in class so I can't right now, but does anyone want to volunteer to call the admissions office and ask when decisions are coming out? Pleeaaase 🙂

Nevermind, class got out early and I called. The lady who answered the phone said "hopefully by the end of the month."

+1. I also called this morning, and they told me the exact same thing.

Haha wow, Cornell really has everything on the hush hush. I guess it's a good thing though. Having vague hints about the date/time in mind really propels the neuroticism.

I still think it'll be sometime this week (tomorrow to Thursday). It's the approximate date, historically.

I think that, by not telling us, they're also giving themselves some flexibility (in addition to avoiding the crazy from us).

My laptop died, so I cannot obsessively check my e-mail... Maybe this is a good thing. These last few days are the worst!

Because in the past four years they have always come out on a Tues or Weds.

Also based on the past, the 6th or 7th would fall perfectly in Cornell's timeline. The 8th is the latest they've done it in the last couple of years.

Though it's really all speculation.

Yeah, I'm a little more hesitant to say tomorrow since ever since I interviewed, the status check page has said that the class is chosen in mid-March...but I would be happy to be wrong!

All this speculation is a slippery slope folks; it will quickly turn in to full blown neuroticism like the threads before this but hey, it seems like an inevitability when schools don't give us a date to look forward to!

Anyway, whenever the results are released, I'm predicting waitlist or rejection for me. I bombed one of my interviews and then sent a very poorly worded letter of interest afterwards to try to make up for it. Why do I do this to myself? :d

Yeah, after Columbia straight up rejected me I kinda lost a bit of confidence regarding Cornell... especially because my interview at Columbia went much more smoothly. Unfortunately, Cornell was my first interview ever so I was pretty inexperienced and noticeably nervous. I felt like I rambled a bit and didn't explain my thoughts as clearly as I could have. I wouldn't say I bombed the interview, but I had a few awkward moments with my first interviewer.. though he was extremely nice about it. I sent him a brief thank you e-mail and he never replied 😕

Anyway, still hoping for the best. Cornell is my dream school and I've been fantasizing about how awesome it would be to be a med student in NYC for the past 3 months. :xf:

I felt the same way about the interviews, that Columbia went far smoother. I haven't gotten any mail from them yet because I'm in Toronto (my Sinai package took 17 days to get from NYC to Toronto so I doubt I'll get my decision from Columbia, whatever it is, anytime soon), but I haven't received a phone call so I'm probably not getting good news at this point. Cornell interviews far less people per seat than Columbia from what I gather so the numbers may be more on our side.

Echoing what you said above, I did like many aspects of Cornell's program more than Columbia's...and the location too. But alas, my second interviewer was a very soft spoken lady and I felt like I just talked at her for an hour. I also misheard a question and took like 10 minutes answering it (she didn't stop me) and then she reasked the her initial question once I was done and I was like...dang :bang: Oh well, c'est la vie. We'll see what happens. Good luck! I wish you the best!

I believe we will get an email in approximately 6 hours if its great news.

I'm the opposite. I felt Cornell went about a million times better than Columbia. Only problem is I accidentally told one of my interviewers I was clumsy haha, thats probably not what they're looking for

My phone alarm that I had set for my interview, which I had accidentally snoozed instead of turning off, went off during the middle of my interview .... Interviewer just stared at me awkwardly as I fumbled around my coat pocket and apologized profusely, lol....I at least hope he appreciated that it was the Star Spangled Banner

Keep in mind there were interviews as late as last Thursday. I'd think they would need a few days to conduct a final review of those applicants before decisions can be sent out.

Do know if the interview season lasted longer than usual this year? Because apparently, last year they released decisions around this time...

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Last Thursday was the last day of interviews.

Yeah, I'm hoping I get some good new from Cornell - I absolutely loved the school. Don't know if the interviews went that well...it was my second interview this season, so I was still getting used to the whole deal.

I guess decisions are not coming out today in the end....🙁

I'm in the same boat as you are. My second interview of the season and it went fairly well I think. Just hoping for some good news. Maybe tomorrow we'll get the news. Pessimistically, perhaps they have already released the acceptances and SDN'ers weren't so lucky. :scared:

I really doubt that. These threads tend to immediately get flooded with ACCEPTED!!!! posts the minute that acceptances are released. Also, if acceptances were released, i would have received one by now, and i haven't heard anything today 😀

The first thing I read when I saw your post was "ACCEPTED". I was like WHHAAAT!? and didn't even bother to read the rest of your post and immediately went to checking my email. Oh March, you're so good at bringing the crazy out of all us poor premeds.

If their season was just over last Thursday, I would now guess they probably won't release decisions until next week.

Actually Mid-March?? NOooooo.....

In previous years they had interviews just as far back as this year and they released around this time on a Tuesday or Wednesday. I think they'll release tomorrow morning.

Lets hope so...this wait is killing me! I just want to know if I'm accepted or not...I can handle either way (but I'm hoping accepted lol).

I got accepted back in December and the email they sent me was at about 11:00 in the morning for what its worth....
