Rejection or just haven't heard anything yet?

Still waiting anxiously :/

Don't worry berriesandcream, idk about your MCAT score, but from the looks of your MDapps profile, there have been people with comparable stats and 27+ MCAT who have gotten interview invites. You submitted your secondary kind of late, so just have patience and your time will come! Good luck.

Has Loma Linda started interviewing the heathens yet? Would really like a chance interview here.

hey, thanks for that! yeah, my secondary went out three weeks ago, so patience....it's a virtue!
you know, i think it's kinda crazy....thinking, i don't know who you are, but i most likely saw you at your white coat last year. I was there supporting a few friends 🙂 A bunch of my friends are in the MD and the biomed program. Oh LLU, please at least grant me biomed 🙁

It was mailed on 12/29
Congrats, again!

thedoctor8706,

Do you have any insight into reapplicants to Loma Linda who interviewed before?

Do they typically not re-interview reapplicants?

What are reasons for not extending another interview?

I'm so sorry, but I don't know much about reapplicants. I would really like to give you a better answer, but I haven't heard much about this situation, and I'm not sure what to tell you. Sorry 🙁. The only thing I can say, and this is strictly from personal observation, is that two of my friends (a classmate of mine here, and one from my undergrad institution) both had to reapply. They both had GPA's that needed some salvaging, and after taking additional coursework and continuing EC's, they were eventually able to get an invite and eventually an acceptance. But like I said, not sure of the process or how it is viewed; all I can say is it never hurts to continually improve yourself and try again.

Last year as in fall of 2010? This new year thing really throws me off balance lol. The biomed program is not that bad of an alternative. Every single biomed student who attended class with me during MS1 was able to secure an acceptance for the following year. It sucks to have to wait, but it's better than abandoning your dream about that MD completely! And those who did it say it really further helps/solidifies a good foundation for Step I, MS2, etc

Oh sorry! Are you class of 2014? Or 2015? I mean I went to the 1015 one. I remember dr. Bailey speaking and being so inspired! I talked to dr. Wright, and I liked how he said biomed is so holistic. The stats are a lot lower than any school, but they find potential. I've had a rough time last year, lots of problems, struggling with some grades, and I mistake to go ahead and take classes, but I hope my two C+'s during the time show how I am persistent, and I take responsibility for my actions.

\complainy rant.

Obviously I don't know your MCAT score, but two C+'s is really nothing to sneeze at (some classmates have had a bit worse), but you will need to be able to explain what happened/what can change for those lower grades during your interview. Also if you have a positive upswing in the correlation of your grades, then that looks really good too. It sucks to wait, but barring anything I don't know about your application, I would be surprised if you actually didn't get an interview invite.

Haha, and yes I'm MS2, c/o 2014. That said, I still was at the c/o 2015 white coat ceremony, and so if you remember an overly tall guy in a purple shirt/tie helping the freshmen students find where they are supposed to sit, then that was me 🙂

Thanks for all your support 🙂 I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed.
Oh! I thought you were an MS1, nevermind. haha my friend is one of LLU's photographers/D1 students, so I looked through all his photos to try and look for you. Alas, I don't think I remember seeing you haha Second year in med school, it's nice that you still come around here to offer your advice 🙂

A good M1 friend of mine called yesterday. We had a long conversation. His call was to check up on me and the status of my app 🙂 he's like my big brother 😀

He turned his secondary on December 20 last year, II end of january, interviewed February, acceptance a week later.

He assure me to wait it out, said to not schedule an interview a week or two after the II. He also suggested I make another meeting with dr. Wright. We'll see 🙂

Was your friend SDA?

Have they started interviewing Non SDA's???

He is SDA; we're just late in getting our secondary in.

Not sure about non-SDA's. This board would give you more information/updates about non-SDA's than I would. Sorry!

So, the research I did during the summer there just got approved for the San Diego conference in April. Sweet!

I suppose this will be interesting for berries.

II received recently in the new year. Non-SDA.

Funny thing, I thought UCSF was your top choice

Bahahaha thanks for the update! When was your secondary submitted?

UCSF was my dream school, one can dream of anything before the MCAT. but after being in close proximity, talking to students, looking at all the angles, really digging deep, LLU is definitely my top choice.

I submitted fairly early. Good luck. It's been a bloody tough cycle.

so how late into the cycle do they send interviews? Is March the last ones or is that the time they finalize who's in and who's out?

I know it can be hard to wait... but there is still LOTS of time left. Patience is key. If March passes without word, then any ancy feelings can be justified.

Hang on, there is still plenty of time! 🙂

well said 😳

CONGRATS 🙂

SDA or NonSDA....have they started interviewing NonSDA's??

:crickets:

Putting it out there...I ADORE histology!!!!! Taking it this quarter 😍

Every time I think something is happening in terms of movement with this school, I just realize the thread is being bumped unnecessarily. Sigh.

For current med students,

Does the curriculum help prepare you for boards, or is there a lot of self study involved?

How is the clinical training? Is there a LLU match list floating around?

I really like LLU and its mission, but from my talks with doctors in IM and ER (my interests), they told me to choose USC or UCLA for both match and clinical training. That made me sad, because I really like LLU.

Any comments?

I'm just an MS1, but from what I've seen so far it looks like there is a lot of crossover. I understand that LLU tends to do above average when considering MCAT to USMLE trends, and I don't know how it compares to USC or UCLA in that category. Obviously can't say much about clinical training or match lists other than anecdotes; I know they send people to top residencies every year, but I don't know the statistics at all.

Accepted!!

I was in the middle of teaching my ninth grade science class and I received an e-mail from my interviewer!

If you were curious, I am OOS and a non-SDA Christian. Good Luck to the rest of you!

I'm a 2nd year. As far as boards I feel like the curriculum is preparing us well, we might have to do a little more self-study than other schools because we have a huge pathophysiology course that, from what I understand, most other schools don't have (or at least it is not as dominant as ours). They're pretty good about it though, for a lot of things they'll tell us "this could show up on boards, but it won't be on our exams" so we're still getting exposed to it.

I think the clinical training is one of Loma Linda's strong suits, and part of that is probably due to the pathophysiology course we take 2nd year. I've heard Loma Linda better than most Ca schools when it comes to clinical training, but then again I don't know what exactly that's based on so, take it FWIW.

Numbers from what class of 2011 matched into (this based on my own count, so a few numbers might be a little off, but its a good general picture)

Anesthesia 7
Dermatology 3
Emergency Medicine 14
Family Medicine (and combined FM/Prev Med) 23
General Surgery 7
Internal Medicine 21
Medicine-Pediatrics 4
Neurology 2
Neurosurgery 2
Ob/Gyn 9
Ophthalmology 3
Orthopedic Surgery 5
Otolaryngology 0
Pathology 1
Pediatrics 20
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation 0
Plastic Surgery 1
Psychiatry 10
Radiation Oncology 2
Radiology 7
Urology 0

I'm getting antsy/nervous. It's been five weeks since I've had my secondary in.

I'll probably call and check tomorrow 🙁👎

It's been 5 months since I've had my secondary in, chill out and wait in line and you can talk after you've actually put in your time.

Eeek! Sorry! Had no idea! Good luck to you and I'm hoping you hear back soon 🙂

2 months here...still waiting:luck::xf:

How Do you know? Did you get one?

Calls usually go out every Friday from here on out... unless the office is closed for something. This is more of a general trend, not a rule, so don't be concerned if a Friday passes and you haven't heard anything!

I feel our curriculum has prepared us really well for boards. In most of our classes, particularly pathophysiology and pathology, teachers regularly point out what has commonly been asked on boards in regards to the subject they are teaching. Our pathophysiology professor once worked writing the actual questions for Step 1, so I'm inclined to believe he knows what he's talking about!

Our pathology teacher provided us with an audio review for EVERY single one of his lectures, and he regularly points out stuff that will be on board exams. It's no Goljan audio review, but it's very, very helpful in prepping.

After reading through First Aid a bit and practicing with some UWorld questions, I can safely say that our teachers have done a good job. I'm not just trying to boost or talk up my own school, but I honestly feel well prepared and my only limitation will be my own stamina/diligence.

USC and UCLA are both great schools, but they have a heavier focus on research when it comes to clinical training. That is great if that is what you are into, but LLU focuses more on whole patient care, which really gives a good backing for treating each patient in their entirety. We have a number of excellent facilities within a small radius, all of which play a part in clinical training. Their is the main hospital, a VA, several outpatient clinics, a county hospital, and many others, including several opportunities to travel abroad.

The deciding factor for most when attending LLU is the Christian environment that the campus fosters. While it's not a"PRAY EVERY MINUTE OR YOU DIE!!" type of thing, it is prevalent, and you have to be ok with that. If you have more questions about that sort of thing, which many do, then don't hesitate to ask! And let me add as a little aside, yes there is plenty of caffiene and meat in the area, this isn't a cult lol.

But as far as the educational side of things goes, LLU is an EXCELLENT school. 👍

Did anyone send in their fall quarter transcript to LLU? (for those who have not been accepted yet)

Not me, since it would not be the most beneficial to me. If your grades are okay, they don't generally ask for them.

This makes me like LLU even more, if that's even possible! 😍
