Hello everyone

For those who've been accepted, have you turned in all the financial aid paperwork? I've done my fafsa but there is no deadline for the FAA and additional forms.

Thanks
Have you gotten the e-mail from the financial aid office how to access the status website? I'd think that, like anything related to financial aid, the earlier paperwork is complete the better.

I was accepted on 3/9 and have yet to submit my financial aid forms. I noticed on the acceptance letter that my deadlines are later in April/May. Does this affect how much I would potentially receive. I understand that the vast majority of students fund their medical education via loans, but does MCW also provide grants and scholarships that are contingent upon applying for financial aid sooner?

MCW does provide some grants (read: free money) but I'm almost certain they're not based on the date paperwork is received as long as you meet all deadlines.

Just searched for the email. I must of missed it with all the emails I get. Thanks w

Just searched my email and found it. I must of skipped over it from all the emails I get. Thanks

I've been accepted and I was wondering about housing options. I'm from out of state, so I was thinking about driving to Milwaukee for a week during the summer to look for places to rent. With my schedule right now I'm free between June 20 - July 2 or so. Will there still be a decent amount of places that are available to rent for August 1 at this time? Or should I come earlier in June? Thanks for the advice!

Check out the Facebook group. There is already a bunch of talk about places to live / roommate searchs / etc.

Anyone else receive an email today telling them to just wait?

I got it, and I had the same reaction. HUH?

Got the same email, and here are the basic points for those interested...
1) Interviews at MCW are almost over
2) MCW does not plan to schedule more interview dates
3) "Over the next few months, our Committee will begin to withdraw the applications of candidates that we will be unable to host for an interview. Rest assured that you will hear from us at some point in the future, either to invite you to interview or to withdraw your application"

Points 2 and 3 do not concur.... If they don't plan on scheduling any more interviews, why give applicants any hope of an interview invitation at this point? And they're also telling us it may be months before we even see this immanent rejection? What a ridiculous email. I submitted this application 2 months shy of a year ago and I'm sure hundreds or thousands of others have been strung along too. Rest assured I have not and will not be waiting for an official rejection. Now that I've finished my bitter rant, the email did mention that applicants can solicit feedback on their application if desired to prepare for re-application. Maybe I'll take them up on that if I have to reapply, but as far as applying to this school again, I'm not so sure.

they might as well have sent a rejection email..... I'm trying to imagine the scenario in which this email was sent. Someone in the admissions office came to work today, knowing that they're only interviewing until THIS friday, and decided to let applicants know that they won't be hearing a rejection for a few MONTHS???

It's hard to imagine this happening without some kind of sadistic intent.

Recently withdrew my acceptance here. Hope it goes to one of you guys patiently waiting!

Agreed. I have no idea what their thinking is behind this email. Maybe they thought it was still April fools' day?

Well I for one will rest easy tonight. It is so good to know that the MCW has not forgotten about me but Instead has been deliberately denying me the opportunity to interview for the past 10 months.

Got the email this morning. I just withdrew my application by emailing them.

Does anybody know what the parking situation is at MCW? I seem to remember hearing there is parking for students but can't remember if that is true or not.

🙂 Don't feel bad. I had the same question and when I came up here to find housing I asked admissions where I could buy a parking pass....they seemed very confused (campus parking is free).

The M1/M2 lot is behind the Wisconsin Athletic Club building (across Watertown Plank Rd). The M3/M4s park in the lot across from the entrance to the school.

Are these lots usually pretty accessible or do they fill up quite a bit?

The idea is transparency. I think it was a considerate idea. Honestly, a lot of schools reveal nothing about what they are doing throughout the process. Here's what it says to me. "Listen guys, I am really sorry that you are still going through this process, but we are going to hang on to your application just in case s*** hits the fan, and we need more people for our waitlist." I think it is safe to say that most of us have been expecting rejection from them for the past month, and I think this is basically telling us that we are rejected with the caveat that they are going to hold onto our applications in case statistical fluctuation occurs (i.e. more people withdraw than expected in the next month.)

Oh yeah the lots are huge. I've never seen it more than 70% full, even during 1st week of class. That's the perk of going to school in 'Tosa, cheap and easy living!

Hey man, I was hoping for some insight. I was wondering how much aid do you estimate you need for school each year, or in other words, what is the full cost of attendance including living expenses? What are some things that MCW students undertake to help alleviate some costs? Thanks.

It looks like I took out $7000 for rent/utilities, $2000 for food, $1000 for recreation and $1900 for travel costs my M1 year. I don't think I live especially frugally and I had ~$4000 left over in my savings account at the end of the year. Even though I was out of state, MCW is a very affordable (if there is such a thing) option for med school.

I think most of us will take out loans in some amount to help pay for school. I took out the maximum both years and have money left over for outside expenses. Although nothing is official, MCW does try to offset the Grad Plus loans your M4 year with grants (free money) and I know that many of us qualify for institutional loans (not free money but low/no interest loans) our M3 year.

Obviously there are programs like the military and Health Service Corp which may be good options for you to help offset your costs. So I guess what I'm saying is that I live comfortably on my student loan money and don't have to resort to selling plasma and sperm like the stories you sometimes hear on SDN!!!! Haha.

Sounds good man. Does the amount of money you take out every worry you?

Thanks for the info! I am looking at housing and if parking isn't an issue then I won't be concerned about being too far from campus.

Yeah, no problem with that. I lived 5 miles away from school last year.

It worries me in the sense that $200,000 is $200,000 more in debt than I'd like to be. But in relation to other comparable professions (Law comes to mind) I'm in a good position. If you're interested in medicine, don't let the prospect of debt keep you out. My friends who majored in meteorology and education are in relatively more debt compared to their earning potential, IMO.

That's true. I hear you - I'm still waiting for a school before i finalize my decisions. Thanks for your input.

I am also getting a message saying the server is down, however I was able to login without problem roughly 4 hours ago

Wondering if anyone who interviewed for the wait list on 3/23 is still waiting for their decision letters? I thought they were snail mailing letters last friday and I still haven't heard anything. I'm starting to think my letter is lost in the mail. Either that or they are taking longer than anticipated!

I interviewed that day and I haven't received my decision yet. I'm thinking it'll come by the end of the week.

Yes, I got my waitlist letter yesterday. I hope you hear back soon. 😍

Withdrew my MCW acceptance today. Good luck everyone, MCW was awesome. 🙂

Interviewed 3/23, received my waitlist letter yesterday 🙂 MCW is so prompt! Does anyone remember when we're gonna be told which quartile we're in?

Yesterday was the last interview day, so I assume we will hear by the end of the month

Got the financial aid processed today.

Oh nevermind. I found the place on the MCW website that says, "Qualified first and second year students can borrow up to $42,722 annual maximum, less any Subsidized Stafford Loan."

Does anyone have any insight as to why the rankings for MCW dropped so much? I know rankings arent everything, but I am worried because I only have a couple of weeks before I choose my school
