Thanks! Is there any particular format to follow for these kinds of email? What should I cover in the email? Just the fact that I will be in the area in December for interview at another NY school? Should I also express my interest and desire to get an interview at Cornell?
sorry, I've never written one of these letters so I don't know what people usually cover in these emails.
I just finished writing the impression I got at the interview day (it's on my mdapps). I'm not sure how useful it'll be but I wrote a little bit about how they described the curriculum to us.
been complete since 7/17...survived the massive wave of rejections but still no word....anyone else still waiting since mid July??

Me too (kinda)! Complete 7/24 and dying to hear something back, preferably something positive![]()
MS1 here. I read your impressions from interview day and its all pretty accurate. I'm impressed you remembered everything they threw at you. Of course there are a lot more things that I like about school here, but I think you picked up on many of the important highlights. Just one correction--lecture is not mandatory. PBL and Journal Club (a weekly meeting where our PBL groups discuss a recent research article) are mandatory, but lecture is videotaped and posted online if attending lecture isn't your thing. Also, quizzes are once every 2-4 weeks now that we're in the flow of school. I don't use this site anymore, but I'll try to pop in this forum every once in a while to answer Q's. Good luck to all you guys
i just sent an in the area email, hoping to speed up the process a little. will be in nyc for a couple of interviews.
still waiting as well...been complete since 7/17...survived the massive wave of rejections but still no word....anyone else still waiting since mid July??
still waiting as well...
any news recently?
is there student hosting for cornell?
how were the interviews here? one-on-one, open file and relaxed?
Yup. Send the office of admissions an email. Be sure to give them plenty of time. Good luck!
I sent a request a few weeks ago and my interview is next week. How long did it take them to get back to you? I really dont want to get a hotel in that area on such short notice.
Have there been any more interview invites recently? are invites slowing down?
II invite today!! Complete Aug 30th

Also just got an II.This is my absolute dream school, I thought I was for sure out of the running. Apparently they arent THAT flooded because the first available date is next Tuesday, 11/6. For reference, my stats are 3.9 36 OOS

August 1When were you complete if you dont mind?
Congrats! Just wondering, isn't Cornell flooded also like NYU?
OMG I received a letter by snail mail from Cornell that's basically a likely letter!! I interviewed a few weeks ago. Basically it's the first year they're doing it to try to recruit highly qualified applicants (maybe increase their matriculation rate?), and it said to expect good news in the spring! They're still non-rolling so it's not an official acceptance. omg I'm speechless <3
You may have the best numbers I've ever seen.

I'm a big fan of the people with high numbers who withdraw from the schools they wouldn't go to after getting accepted.
To the topic, though: don't know why a letter now would increase their matriculation rate. Nobody who interviews at a high-level non-rolling school is going to be preparing to go to certain medical schools before March. I guess they felt they were losing applicants to Pritzker/Pitt/Michigan and the other non-rollers who move quickly?

It won't, but it's meant to make the applicants feel more connected with a school. A school's early appreciation indicates that you're a valuable asset to their institution. They hope that will act as a motivator later, but it likely will not. If a student is set on Harvard, they're dang well going to go to Harvard regardless if another school sends them a I <3 you note.
Also, Pitt is completely non-rolling now; aren't UChicago and UMich both rolling?
hmm... Has anyone else received this letter?OMG I received a letter by snail mail from Cornell that's basically a likely letter!! I interviewed a few weeks ago. I agree. I recently decided to withdraw a few acceptances actually, out of courtesy, so I'm only holding two now (Pritzker and Vandy) for financial reasons, but I'll probably choose Pritzker anyways since I don't think Vandy's giving merit money. I really liked Cornell though and might take it because of location/ivy league.

Edit: I also loved my interview day!!! Cornell felt like a great fit for me too =) <3 <3
I absolutely loved Cornell as well. May I ask when you interviewed Wangers?Pritzker: new hospital opening in 2013 and Hyde Park is a little more chill, but near a great city of entertainment and stuff to do. the class size is also a bit smaller, which is a plus in my books
Cornell: tri-institutional partnership makes for many more research opportunities, upper east side is beautiful, and I love the idea of being in the heart of NYC. NYPH is, of course, much busier and hectic, but that could be fun, too
I'll see what happens in March--no guarantees now--but if I have the privilege to choose between these great schools I'll be so honored <3
I love NYC. NYU, Columbia, Cornell, Sinai, Einstein are all dream schools. What do I need to get into schools like these? I look at the mdapps profiles of people on the school specific threads of these schools and everyone has insane stats. My gpa not stellar at 3.7 and im not URM... feels kinda bad lol.
Keep in mind that compared to the average medical school applicant, pretty much everyone on SDN is a gunner (either gunning for top schools, or to get into schools, there isn't much of the middle range). So you're going to see ridiculous applications because this site selects for that.
That being said, don't underestimate the importance of the MCAT - schools increase its importance from year to year as it's an easy way to cut out a ton of applicants. Doing very well on the MCAT and getting your app in on day 1 will get you into one of the NYC schools.
