Finally got the axe. Complete in very early September.

I'm trying to see if I should interview in the am or pm. What was your experience interviewing in the AM or PM? Which one do you think would be better and why?

Well I can't really speak for the pm session but the am was great and I was able to catch a flight in the mid afternoon to my next destination and arrive there at decent time. I believe the morning session concludes with lunch and a tour of housing, I could be wrong.

I don't necessarily think one is better than the other. For the PM session, you get there at 11:15 and start with an info session, followed by the tour and then lunch. You have your interviews afterwards. I thought it was a great day overall!
I would just say that if you would rather get your interviews out of the way first or you are trying to catch an earlier flight out (I finished around 4:15) then you should go with AM.

Anyone think an intent letter would help before decisions come out in March? I interviewed back in October and Cornell is definitely my top choice at this point. Also my stats are pretty mediocre for Cornell (3.9 GPA/mid-30s MCAT).

I don't think it would hurt. Go for it!

I am planning on sending in my LOI soon as well. I think it is a good idea to assure them of your matriculation if accepted because they accept more than 300 every year for the 101 spots - a lower matriculation ratio I believe than other top schools.
I'm sure they will appreciate knowing your assured acceptance if admitted.
Hope it works for the both of us! Loved Cornell when I was there (way back on the first day of the interview season...)

Mediocre!? My stats are 3.5 gpa and low 30s mcat, and I'm a non-urm. Wondering if my ii was a mistake.

The interview day was great. I had afternoon interviews but that does not matter. You will start your day with the interviews then will meet back in the admissions office. There will be a tour around the school and lunch with current med students afterwards. There were about 9 students interviewing on the day I interviewed which I thought was great since I got to know all of them. The interviews are not stressful at all. They just want to learn more about you. Good Luck.

If you are interviewing in February, are you more or less interviewing for waitlist spots or is your chance for acceptance similar to that of the applicants who interviewed earlier? Does anyone know how the review process is at Cornell (i.e. review all applicants or batch them and review them as the interview cycle goes on) to help explain?

I received a surprise II this morning as well. I'm not sure what my chance would be at this point though. Any thoughts would be appreciated! 🙂

My interviews were at 9:15 and 10:00am I believe, followed by a orientation from one of the deans, lunch, and then tour of the medical college, hospital, and we even got to see the residential facilities (which weren't that impressive, but dirt cheap!)

Anyone know the best way to get from Newark to Cornell? How much does it cost? The flights $100 cheaper to fly in to Newark than LGA, but I want to make sure that's worth it before I get the ticket.

Off the top of my head, train from EWR to New York Penn Station via Newark Penn Station (different places), and then cab/subway up to Weill.

May be a better way but that's pretty easy.

first time posting b/c i'm slightly confused. I just received an invite to submit a secondary, but also within the email they say that the last interviews occur in January and that the secondary has to be submitted by January-- confused! maybe an error? I tried contacting admissions but the phone rang out...

I think it said in the interview day packet that only 750 were being interviewed this year, so our chances might be slightly higher

OOS: 691 interviewed, 191 were accepted

wow thats a great percentage, especially since they cut down the interviewees this year, though I am sure a lot of those accepted were from waitlists

Sorry to burst bubbles, but the above data is incorrect!!!! Here is the US News Data, most recent:

Total: 823 interviewed, 307 accepted, 101 enrolled; 37% acceptance rate
OOS: 691 interviewed, 245 accepted, 70 enrolled; 35% acceptance rate
IS: 132 interviewed, 62 accepted, 31 enrolled; 47% acceptance rate

Sounds more realistic. If they lowered it to 750 interviewed this year, they either a) expect higher yield this year (however a school can do that #UMich) or b) didn't feel like interviewing more people because they'll still get a good class

Say 750 interviewed, you get roughly 41% who might be accepted post-interview (307/750), including waitlist movement, this year.

I didn't look at all of the data from my source - the IS numbers were the same, but it looks like the OOS accepted numbers were off and made the IS numbers look insanely high. The page probably got their info from USNWR but transcribed that data point incorrectly because it doesn't add up right...

I not sure great is the right word...but those odds sure do beat some of the other non-rolling schools.

I think everyone would appreciate if schools were more stringent on giving out interview invites. I believe UMich and UCSF accept somewhere around 58% of interviewes. Better but still not perfect haha
