Got small-pooled on August 6 but have yet to hear anything about an interview. Do people get rejected after being small-pooled, or are you pretty much on an interview wait list for the rest of the cycle?

Aw sorry man :/

Were you small pooled? When did you submit?

Not small pooled. Secondary submitted 7/2, complete 7/6.

3.33 cum/3.0 sci/33R OOS, average EC's

Entered screening on 7/20, no small pool email... But at least no rejection either....

What do you guys think?

3.14/3.0/33Q OOS, excellent ECs and URM and I got rejected yesterday. I entered screening 14 days before you though.

youll be in limbo until next may unless you get an interview at some point. they wont tell you anything about your chances of gettin an II either.

also if I remember correctly they don't allow you to send any updates/letters in the meantime, so there's nothing we can do right now but wait.

unless u are a URM I think your GPA puts you behind the 8-ball a bit. just my guess tho.

your stats are almost identical to MedPR who (very surprisingly IMO) was rejected last week.. i believe he was even URM too, (sorry MedPR, dont mean to call you out, still surprised by your rejection here :/ )

I got an email about a 10 days ago stating that my secondary application and payment was submitted, but no email about being complete.

I read the posts above and it seems some people might be on the same boat. Should I send them an email? I would appreciate any feedback...

I wouldn't. There is a substantial amount of time between getting that email from them and them actually getting to your application and marking it complete. And as we are into August, the volume of applications is very high, so they are probably overwhelmed right now. Once you get officially marked complete (they'll email you) and you will enter the screening process. The screening process will probably take even longer than the "marking complete" process.

What does URM mean?

Not sure if RFU is following any sort of order but I was complete on the secondary 7/27, entered primary screening 7/30... and didn't enter "small pool" (primary screening complete/passed) until 8/15.... so it seems to have taken a while to get emailed

Not a CMS student, but I am doing full-time research here over the summer. I commute up from the city on the metra and then take the shuttle from the metra station to the school. I know a lot of the students do this option because living in the city of Chicago (Lincoln Park and Lakeview especially) is amazing. The metra ride itself is really nice Smooth ride, comfy seats but is about an hour long. I normally pack my breakfast and eat it on the metra and do application essays but other people read, watch shows on their computers or just sleep. I know a good number of students here too, and the ones that choose to live in north Chicago for the quicker commute are usually pretty excited to move to the city for their rotation years. Or you could live in an in-between suburb like wilmette, winnetka, or Evanston. Hope this helps!

Hmm.. so, I was verified July 29th and have still not gotten a secondary from RFU.. should I be concerned about this? Got one from most everyone except them...

Wut? I just added this school last night and got a secondary today

Yeah sounds like something is wrong. I'd contact them.

I was small pooled 7/31...still residing in limbo...really want an interview here

So I something I thought was interesting and would appreciate any input...

So I was small pooled here on August 9th, and after sending them an in the area email to try and save on another cross country flight ( Im going to be in north carolina on 9/17, boston 10/29, and penn on 11/2) I received the following reply:

"Thank you for your email. At this time we are unable to accommodate your request. If you are invited to campus for an interview before the dates you listed, please contact our office at that time to see if we are able to schedule an interview at your convenience. "

Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm just curious if this is a bad sign ...? Any input is appreciated 🙂

Thanks for sharing. I don't think it's a bad sign at all - just know that not all schools are receptive to in the area requests.

You sent one before you even got an interview? What did you expect them to say? 😛

Lol I guess when you think of it from that perspective...-idk it just gave me an ambivalent vibe 😀 I guess I'm getting too neurotic and reading into idiosyncratic details and it's only August :/

...do you not understand how in-the-area emails work?

My understanding is that you're like "yo med school, I'm gonna be near you at this time, so if you decide to give me an interview wanna schedule it for that time?"

The med school replied "sure, if we decide to give you an interview you'll be all set"

I guess I don't understand why the poster was worried about that 🙂

But obviously something I said was illogical so I might be wrong.

Not worried just curious if the email had any implications... Ex: I did one for one college and they responded that they would add it to my file and a few days later offered me an invite in the week of my preference... Also another college requested that I re-submit my in the area email specifically in early September... So yeah... I do think there is something to the responses we get from the various in the area emails we send- but in the end its just another resource to be neurotic over though!

Yeah I definitely think you're fine 🙂. Wouldn't sweat it.

Have you checked your spam? :/ I just found 3 of my secondaries (including this one) waiting there.

You said "before you even got an interview" as if this was a strange time send one, when in fact it is really the ONLY time you would send one. Maybe I read you wrong.

Anyone have any idea how early we should be expecting acceptances/rejections after our interviews?

Is that a pattern among medical schools? They don't start until Oct 15?

I believe that it's the earliest date that the AAMC allows them to notify applicants of acceptances. Can anyone confirm this?

EDIT: For non-EDP, that is.

Yup, first day AAMC allows acceptances is Oct. 15.

Complete Aug 9th. Still silent on my side, anybody else get any updates recently?

Entered primary screening August 9th, haven't heard anything since.

Oh you're right, the question mark was confusing. 🙂

Any current CMS students here? How do you like the school (and living in North Chicago)?
Hey there, guys. I am a current M2 at CMS, as well as an Ambassador for the school (when you guys come to interview, I will be one of the ones taking care of you throughout the day. Don't worry, though, anything said on this thread stays on this thread). Feel free to PM me with any questions at any time and I will be glad to help.
If I could, I would like to address a couple of common points I have seen so far.
1. The website is a bit confusing. It is new, and they aren't done with it yet, though, so I am hopeful that it will get better.
2. The big thing about CMS admissions is that the stats don't matter as much as at other schools. They really do take a good look at the entire application. It isn't just words here. So for the people who posted about having high stats, or low stats, that doesn't mean you are automatically in or out. CMS accepts a wide range of stats, experiences, etc (there is a former opera singer in the class of 2016). For the person who posted about having high stats and the replies about the school thinking you are just applying as a safety, that is definitely not the case.
3. Slow application process- there is a lot going on, and a flood of applications. Some things take time, as agonizing as I know it is for you guys. Just try and be patient. Watching Scrubs helps. Also, it is the school's centennial this year, and there are lots of extra things going on.
4. As for those of you wanting a current student's opinion of the school, I can say there are pros and cons. It all depends on you for which is which. The area is nice, but far from the city. If you are all about city life, hip places, etc, you may find it not as good (though some students do live in the city their first 2 years, and most live in the city for the last 2). The curriculum is tough, but the administration is always listening. Case in point- the switch to pass/fail. They asked us last year, and we told them. Therefore, you guys will be the first class to have the pass/fail system.
5. This is a continuation of the last point, but is another trend that is usually the case, and I have seen some inklings of on here. Our reputation. Some people don't think we have as good of a rep as other chicago schools, however, for those in the field, we have a VERY high reputation. Our match lists are incredible, and we are always looked at favorably during rotations (which are all over the city- another plus). We consistently find that when matched up with peers from other schools, we are as good if not better than them. Also, our alumni are all over the country, and very distinguished. For example, the guy who runs the UCLA health system is a CMS grad. In fact, from what I have seen I think we run most of Southern California. Not to mention that the alumni are really cool and friendly, and extremely supportive of current students.
Sorry for the little novel, but I hope this info helps you guys out.

Thank you so much for the info - very helpful!

Thanks for the post eliezer, hope to see you if I am lucky enough to get an interview here!

Thanks so much for answering, eliezer! This helps a ton. Can't wait to visit a month from now! 🙂

Great info, thanks!!!

So...I entered primary screening on Aug 1st, nothing back yet. Should I be worried??
I have mediocre stats, but imo really awesome ECs. *sigh*

Also I hope we all get in!
