You have to pay to use the garage. Your ID gets you in/out. It costs like $220 a semester or something. There is also nearby street parking for free.

these parking garages can cost a lot to build and provide security. My sibling pays $1000 a year to park at his school's grad school garage.

Sounds a lot like Vandy. We have undergrad and grad garages that climb to $1500 and $2000 a year. But it's a private school, hence my surprise at SLU's cost when UT charges $90 a year.

SLU is a private school.

Yeah, I heard the committee met on Wednesday (the 30th) but still no news here. When did you interview, Spacemanspif?

I interviewed on Dec. 11. I also called Wednesday, and the office said I was on the agenda for the day's meeting. They also indicated that it would be Friday or Monday before I heard. I had thought it was mostly a Thursday/Friday kind of timeline, but looking at last week, it seems things are pushed back a day or so.

Eek! Wondering if I'm on that list too. Best of luck to all of us waiting.... :luck:!

I interviewed on 12/4. Hope we hear back soon! Good luck 🙂

You're kidding, right? You know that SLU is a Catholic Jesuit University, right?
Nope, unfortunately that was an honest reply and a total tool moment for me. I love the location, its research strength, and had heard great things about the school, but none of which was that it was a private school. And the name is inconspicuous enough.
Anyone have that whoosh.jpg?

I'm intruiged.

Yeah, a number of Jesuit institutions don't have names that sound Catholic. Santa Clara, San Francisco, Fordham, Georgetown, Boston College, Gonzaga, Spring Hill, and a whole bunch more. Although I guess the college names: St. Louis, San Francisco, and Santa Clara do have a religious ring to them even though their names are for their cities.

What's a Catholic sounding name? It's not like there's a lot of colleges called Heavenly University of Crosses, Bibles, and Nuns...

Hahaha, totally LoLd at that one. Well, to further my toolness, I knew darn well that Loma Linda was SDA when I applied. I just don't know how I missed SLU. Bah, oh well, doesn't matter either way as I was raised German Roman Catholic and am now agnostic. I'm still hoping for an II even though chances are slim to none at this point.

Accepted today, 2:49pm! 34R 3.78scGPA. Interviewed on Dec. 11. First acceptance! Happytimes are here!

😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Well, SLU does have "Saint" in the name...

Also, does anyone find the "Billiken" mascot creepy? I can't really put my finger on it, but it just looks wrong.

Nope, it's awesome.

Accepted today! First acceptance so it feels amazing! Interviews 1/8... yeah, freaky-fast answer! :soexcited::soexcited:

It's also known that the Billiken was manufactured in the early 1900s as a bank and statuette and was the national rage for about six months -- kind of that period's pet rock. During this time, the Billiken was turned into all sorts of things: dolls, marshmallow candies, metal banks, hatpins, pickle forks, belt buckles, auto hood ornaments, salt and pepper shakers and glass bottles.

A temporary fad in the early 1900s? So it's like choosing Angry Birds or Pokemon as a mascot for a new university in 2012?

SLU has been around since 1818

How "safe" is the street parking as far as break-ins go? Or bodily harm, either one.

I'm a third year from SLU SOM. Parking can be dangerous depending on the time of day. I would definitely buy a parking pass for the first year or two, since you will probably be at the school studying late. But during third and fourth year hardly anyone buys one since you will be working at the hospital and arriving early in the morning to grab the street parking.

Good Luck everyone.

Haven't heard of any issues. It's just a short walk. Always plenty of parking. But buying parking the first few years isn't a bad idea either since it's not too expensive and you get access to parking by the gym.

Accepted yesterday via email. 🙂 Interviewed in November. I really thought I was going to get wait listed.

Hey guys, my interview itinerary is blank for the 8am-11am time block. In the 11am-12pm block it says "Tour the medical center". My interview is at 3:15pm. Does this mean that I don't have to show up at SLUSOM until 11am?

I would suggest getting there between 10:30 and 10:55 AM, not right at 11:00 AM, but yup! Get a good night's rest 🙂

Got the Alternate List email today (Interviewed 12/10). Thats 3/3 on wait lists...Anyone know how big st louis's wait list is/how much movement there is?

the wait list would be nearly all not immediately accepted students.. apparently SLU rarely rejects after interview.

however, if you look at their usnews numbers, they offer about twice as many acceptances as spots...so there should be a lot of movement.

Can you clarify? Are you saying that virtually all interviewed students who are NOT accepted will go to the WL (if not outright rejected)?

As for your second point....if SLU offers twice as many acceptances as there are seats, then that just suggests to me that they expect about a 50% yield. We don't know if that means that they'll have to dig much into the WL. Past history has likely told them about how many they need to over-accept.

but maybe I'm not understanding what you wrote.

I think this topic has been discussed a few times in this thread, but SLU does not reject post-interview.

In the end, we'll interview about 900 and accept 450 for 175 seats. Not sure about the wait list numbers exactly though. You can check old threads. There's usually at least some movement.

Waitlisted today as well

What are your stats?

Yes, if you aren't accepted or rejected you go to the wait list. Most schools don't give interviewees the silent treatment.

others have clarified most of your questions..

just one thing about the yield vs overaccept vs WL.

I doubt schools do a bunch of overaccepting..because if they overaccept too much they can end up running into problems. (i might be wrong on this)..

so what I'm saying is, I would expect that at least 25% (perhaps even more) of the seats come from WL (Assuming they overaccept by ~25%).

I imagine that schools overaccept based on history and their models. Undergrads do the same thing. SOMs probably have an estimate of how many accepted students will actually enroll and tailor their acceptance numbers to be slightly under that to protect themselves...and they go to their WL's when needed to fill a couple of seats.

That said, I have heard that some SOMs have to heavily use their WLs, so that's in line with what you wrote.

In last year's thread, they estimated 20%

PM'ed you

the more important stat would be the % of alternates that get accepted.

Whoops, I should've been more clear. They estimated that 20% of the waitlist would be offered acceptances, not that 20% of the class comes from the waitlist.
