Ok. So using these numbers we can estimate:

With some trial and error to reach ~450 acceptances for 175 spots with 20% of wait listed people being part of that 450 and essentially 0 post-interview rejections.

This brings us to ~350 accepted out right (double class size) and 0.2*(900-350)=110 off the wait list for a total of 460 acceptances given

So, about half of those interviewed will be offered a spot at one point.....350 outright and 110 from the waitlist?? That suggests to me that sending interest letters could help getting off the WL, since a good number of those WL decline the offer.

When are the remaining 450 rejected?

Post-May 15th maybe? Or maybe they're not rejected until after classes begin and the class is definitely filled. I was an applicant last cycle and it was hilarious how late schools would reject me, like September. Others were just completely silent the entire app cycle.

Got accepted last week and I am very excited about the school and area. I just recently found this thread. I was wondering if there were any students or locals who might possibly tell me about neighborhoods to look into. I am married and would prefer to live close to the school.

Tower grove is your cheapest option near slu. More expensive options nearby (less than 3 miles away) include Midtown, downtown, and central west end. About 5 miles away is Clayton. 8 miles away is Brentwood.

Edit: forgot to mention Soulard which is probably also in the 5 mile range from SLU.

I've always lived in Midtown so I'm not really sure. When I go to tower grove to eat or farmers market it seems pretty safe. I've lived in a more dangerous part of St Louis for many years though so I may not be the best judge.

I would also like some recommendations for places to live. I'd like to live near campus as well.

Also, what rent rates should I expect?

Here is some information on housing straight from SLU students. There is a document there of survey results from current med students, detailing where they lived, rent rates, their comments, etc.
 
Just got a pre-interview rejection.

Oh well, was interested in this school tho.

It's as safe as any neighborhood in St. Louis, or any big city for that matter. It's important to see the place in person, for sure, since things change from block to block in some areas. Tower Grove South is probably more consistently safe than Tower Grove East, but I live in TGE and love it.

Just FYI, the 3949 Lindell Apartment complex burned down a few months ago. A lot of progress has been made on rebuilding it, but I don't when it will be ready.
 
Another Friday... maybe some decisions going out today?? What do you guys think?
 
I just spoke with the admissions office and they said they are thinking about having a second look weekend. No dates yet, but they said it will likely be a Friday in April.

lol....I wonder if they read this thread? There was some discussion a few weeks ago about whether SLU should have a second look or not.

What do all you OOSers like about SLU? I love the school, but I'm from Missouri and that's a big reason why I want to go here.

I'm in-state, but from KC, and what I most like about SLU is the fact that they accepted me. But aside from that, the students seem very happy, I like the class schedule (9-noonish, recorded lectures), the location of the school (big city), P/F grading, and the administrations seems very receptive to students' concerns. I also like its mission/values.

There's a lot to like! New curriculum, faculty receptiveness, P/F, good reputation of clinical years to name a few.
 
I'm a class of 2013 member, it is like 2-3 problem med students that have gunned people in 3rd year and everyone knows who they are because it's a small enough school. But out of a class of 180, about 2-3 have thrown other medical students under the bus (and not surprisingly most of that took place right before and after christmas break) by the surgery gunners during surgical rotations

anybody have any luck with getting an interview with an in the area email? i'm from stl and go home for breaks and just sent them another one for spring break

I must be missing something behind this apparently unsolicited post. I thought "gunners" were just really competitive and hardworking students. I didn't know gunning was a verb that one person could do to another. What does it mean to have "gunned people"? In my undergrad career, I've never been "thrown under the bus" by any classmates. How could one med student's performance negatively affect another?

I'm guessing that what he means is that there might be some sabotaging going on. I had heard of such things going on in undergrad, but not med school.

I got an II a few weeks after sending in an in the area. I sent it because other people on this thread seemed to have luck with it. Good luck!

Gunner was originally used to describe people who would sabotage others. The term has developed into meaning competitive though.

Anyway 3/180 isn't bad.

However, I'd hazard to guess that there is at least 1 gunner in every class no matter what school you're at. Now we just have to find out who that is 😏
