Complete early Sept.

II this morning too!!!

Can anyone please let me know what the typical itinerary for the Interview day is like? I'm going to be flying from California and I'd have to schedule the flight accordingly.

Most likely either 8-1 or 11-4 depending on when your interview is.

Highly variable depending on when you receive your interview. You could start as late as 11 AM, or be done as early as 1.

I really like SLU, I actually earned a degree there, but my interview this year was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a professional setting.

Why is that? your wording makes it sound like you had a terrible interviewer?

My interview ended with this nugget:

"Your application hasn't changed much in the last year, is there anything you'd like to add?"

I didn't say much, because I thought adding 20 science hours in one year was actually a pretty big difference, but I wasn't going to argue.

"Well...the good news is, you've gotten accepted elsewhere, so, at least, you'll be a physician"

I spent most of my interview being/feeling highly insulted by my interviewer.

Edit: I do NOT feel as if this individual was representative of the school AT ALL, but it was just an awful experience.

Has anyone who interviewed on Dec. 18th heard anything yet?

sorry to hear that.. that's rough and unfortunate.

I interviewed on 12/17 and haven't heard yet. I called today and they said I had just been reviewed at the meeting yesterday, but it would still take a while for me to get a response. She apologized for the delay and blamed the holidays. I'm just glad she gave me some info tho!

Oh, and a question for those that were accepted... Did you receive an email with your acceptance or a phone call? The person I spoke to said I would receive an email and I wanted to make sure this wasn't a bad thing.

I had him and found him quite pleasant even though I was incredibly nervous.

Yeah, I've heard that he's softened up recently...after many years of complaints. But he's the only one that anyone has ever complained about before.

Acceptances are sent by email. So I hope it's a good one for you!

Got my acceptance by email. The timing was totally unexpected as it was on Jan 2, in the morning. I didn't even think that schools were back at work yet.

Wow, thanks for the info. Hoping for good news soon!

Interesting... I had a tough interview experience with SLU too. My interviewer seemed fairly rude and uninterested, and she kept interrupting me with random and trivial questions when I was trying to answer the original questions she asked. My impression with SLU in general was still positive though.

Way back when I interviewed here I hada few of my more uncomfortable experiences as well. I was asked where I had applied (specifically), where I had interviews, whether I had been accepted yet, how far into my cycle I was, and whether I'd go there over my other schools specifically listed. I was also asked a couple other personal questions regarding my life that were pretty awkward to ask. It became extremely uncomfortable for me and I'm not even sure if that kind of interrogation is legal. It definitely didn't impress me positively, but I still really liked the school. But I took it in stride and just accepted that I was getting a WL (which I did). I thought about informing the committee in the survey but decided not to.

Hmm. I was also asked where I interviewed. Though I didn't think much of it because I've had a couple other schools ask me the same.

My interviewer made it seem like he asked because of his own personal interest and not because it was going in my official applicant file. Kinda just happened offhand at the end of the interview.

+1 I had kind of forgotten this, but I was asked where I interviewed too. I thought it was a little off-putting, but the rest of my interview was pretty positive and I really liked the school on the whole. I definitely hope that having interviewed other places wouldn't hurt my chances... 🙄

Yeah I was asked those questions as well. There were also some more personal questions which were kind of awkward and with interviewer responses that were even more awkward. I felt like I was being led towards giving a specific answer for things.

That said, I really like the school and the people with whom I've interacted, except for this person.

I had a pretty bad experience with my interviewer too... He was rather aloof throughout the interview's entirety, dismissed my reasons for applying to SLU, and rushed me out the door at the end. In the middle of it, I made the mistake trying to lighten the atmosphere with a little humor and got a deadpan reaction.

the rest of the day was pretty awesome, but I still went home with a bad taste in my mouth. It was really disappointing. Expecting a rejection.

Well I suppose at least I'm not the only one.. 😆

Expecting a rejection.

Worse, actually. They wait list ALL those who interviewed and they initially accept about double the class size. Means that if you get wait listed it really doesn't mean you have much of a shot. That is, only a minority of those given wait lists will receive acceptances. I think ~20%? These numbers were listed earlier so it's conjecture, but the numbers seem reasonable.

My experience was just like this! Start to wonder if we had the same interviewer now...

20% seems like a pretty good number. Can't imagine most schools have a higher waitlist acceptance rate.

20% of what? Those who SLU have named to be on the WL? Does that include those who at one point removed themselves? Either way, 20% is still pretty good since as a school goes to their WL they often find that many decline offers because they've decided to go elsewhere.

Is the WL acceptance rate 20% or did 20% of the WL eventually matriculate?

A few people did the math the other day on here and seemed to come up with 20% of wait list people get accepted. Seems like a relatively good number.

In last year's thread someone roughly calculated that 20% of those waitlisted would be offered acceptances.

I wish we could know our rank, how long the waitlist is, etc. Too bad it is confidential...

Anybody know how SLU feels about pre-interview updates/letters of interest? Couldn't find any info on their website, or previously on this thread.

Thanks! 🙂

They accept them. I've sent several and verified that they received them via phone: Go for it! :luck:

Sorry to hear that. When did you interview?

(glad to hear that you have other acceptances!!)

----------

to those who've been accepted, when did you receive your acceptance packet? I never got one. Should I ask or wait?

Accepted this morning. Anyone know if the $100 deposit is refundable? Thanks!

Accepted as well!! :soexcited:

To confirm our intent to register, do we just respond to the Dean's email saying so?

So there's no revisit weekend at SLU right?

I might be looking to road trip down from New England to see the campus again, tour the hospital, and hang out in Saint Louis/maybe check out some apartments... If I end up doing it, I wouldn't be averse to picking some people up if others are interested.

If you want a med student tour guide, just let the admissions office know and they'll set you up.

There was some speculation that SLU was considering hosting a "second look"....and news?

SLU has a pamphlet in the admissions office that says there is a second look day. I went in there last week for some candy.
