I sent my deposit in around Jan 10th. Better check on that.

Thanks.

I'm really surprised I haven't received a pre-interview rejection yet considering how far into the cycle we are now and since others have already received theirs... I'm genuinely puzzled.

+2 probably in the "maybe not" pile as back-up interviewees

There is a second look day scheduled. I recived an email about it on the 11th. It is 2 days long, a Sunday and Monday. March 3-4. Hope this helps!

I didn't get an email.

Did you pay your deposit yet?

Isn't there a master second list thread? I can't find it on search.

I didn't get an email yet either 😕 I paid my deposit right after I was accepted in late October.

Yeah that is weird. I was accepted on Feb. 1st and sent in a check with in a few days and got the email about second look day on the 11th. Did you guys write a check? If so you can check your account and make sure the money was withdrawn. If you did another method I'm not sure. Also, check your spam folder. I know some people's emails get rerouted automatically if you are on a large mailing list.

The last thing I heard from SLU was a confirmation e-mail in late Oct after sending in my deposit, but there was no mention of a 2nd look...

I interviewed 12/17 too... No response yet. 🙁 I called and they said I was reviewed Wed. of last week by the committee. I'm going crazy with the wait!!!!

Oh boy. I interviewed 1/29... I know it depends on your interviewer, but boy do I have a long time to wait haha

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Like we're the applicants that will replace a last minute cancellation as they close the interview season. =/

yup. I think I'm in this pile at a handful of schools unfortunately.

The "second look" weekend is held by the Office of Multicultural Affairs to encourage minority applicants to choose SLU over other medical schools. They probably only emailed URMs, but I'm sure any applicant is welcome to attend if they would like to do so.

Accepted as well!! :soexcited:

To confirm our intent to register, do we just respond to the Dean's email saying so?

That's what I did but I'm not too sure that's what we're suppose to do. Also, does anyone know which mailing adress to send our deposit to?

Gave up my interview slot! Hope one of you fine people gets it.

Are you a student at SLU? How do you know that that is the case? If it is, I really hate things like that. I understand, since minorities are underrepresented there are efforts to get minorities into certain schools, but efforts like that do absolutely nothing for feelings of inclusion. Speaking from my personal opinion. Second look days should be for potential students t meet each other and further explore the school, not just meet other minority students. Just my thought though, I’ll end my rant there.

The OMA dean is very concerned with inclusion of all races. He is trying to get different cultures to intermingle.

Sent from my SGH-T999 using SDN Mobile

Considering this a silent rejection, as there's no way I'm getting an II this late in the game. This will be my last post. Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to those waiting on decisions and WL movement.

hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a LOT of schools do this.

Yes. They'll even sometimes PAY the student's travel costs.

I'm not naïve to that fact, but that doesn't change the fact that it does nothing for feelings of inclusion. How can you feel a sense of inclusion when you are only "intermingling" with people that will make up a really small percentage of your incoming class? (Totally a retorical question, and I spoke my peace so the discussion doesn't really have to contiune lol)

Your position makes sense in regards to the actual "second look" day. you're right, on that day, you're only mixing with other URMs.

I guess the idea of "inclusion" has more to do with matriculating than the actual second look day. Their goal of inclusion is that they will seat a class that has diversity....and at that point, you'll be mingling with the class.

The SOM could host a Second Look for everyone (and some SOMs do), but some SOMs must feel that they can really "sell" their school to desirable URMs in a more focused way.

Someone made one already. Link is on the thread somewhere...look harder. 🙂

Called the admissions office this morning, I interviewed jan22 and was told I have been reviewed and probably will get a decision this week.

*bites his nails*

EDIT: .... And I'm alternate listed :/.

Btw is the alternate list a separate designation compared to a wait list at SLU. OR is it just their way of saying wait listed??

Rejected today via email, pre-interview. I kind of forgot that I still had an open application here lol.

Great stats. Do you have acceptances? Were you asked if you had acceptances during your interview?

No, I don't have any acceptances, and yes, they did ask me. I am very frustrated and pissed off. This was without a doubt my best interview. My interviewer actually said at the end of the interview "I will recommend you as strongly as possible for acceptance." So if I aced the interview and still didn't get in, doesn't that mean my interview had literally ZERO bearing on their decision? So why the hell did they waste my time and $400 for plane and hotel with an invite to interview?

I'm not saying I feel entitled to an acceptance. Just that, unless my interviewer was dishonest with me, they appeared to have invited me to interview with no intention of accepting me.

I don't blame you for being annoyed.
Have you sent any updates?
I don't know if SLU accepts any LOIs, but if it does, you should send one so that they know that you would enroll if accepted. With your stats, you need to let them know that they aren't just a safety for them.

they mention in the waitlist email that they would like to hear from applicants about updates etc.

Well, if that's the case, anyone who has no acceptances should send an update that politely but strongly suggests that s/he would enroll if accepted. JMO

There are limited acceptances that can be given out, especially this late in the interview season. So, based on how your interview went, you are likely at the top of the waitlist.

On a side note, you might want to be careful with what you say on SDN. The adcom does monitor this thread and you've already revealed to them who you are, based on your interview date and stats.

I hear your frustration. This is my second application cycle. First cycle, interviewed at 3 places, including my state school, at which I should've been a shoe-in. Instead, I was flat-out rejected (not even waitlisted, as is very common for the school). Just hang in there. It's kind of a crapshoot.
