Damn it

Seriously? I have never heard this about BU. I personally have a hard time seeing how a school as good as BU which receives as many applications as it does could be considered a safety school by anyone, regardless of stats.

.... this thread is like the elephant graveyard in the lion king. 🙁

rejectedd 3.9 35 OOS. complete 7/15
bummer but I was expecting it with all these rejections lately!

You are correct. For what it's worth, U.S. News and World Reports currently ranks BU at #30, above such med schools as Brown (31) and Dartmouth (38).

Any IIs today? My date of completion was 8/12 and the last II was for an application completed on 8/11. Getting anxious. Haha

II offer 8/22
Complete 8/2, Non-Trad 3.6c/ 3.7s/ 32 MCAT

Edit: no optional essay

I was originally complete on 7/25. Got MCAT score on 8/7, and I decided to send one more LOR on 8/26. And still no II. I see a rejection coming. which will be a bummer since I really like BU

Now I don't feel so bad with my rejection after reading this thread...

3.7+/34

To those who have received an interview invite from BU, what do you think the distinction was that got it for you, based on the feedback from people who have been rejected so far? It would be interesting if a common link could be discerned.

does BU put people on hold? or if you havent heard anything does that mean a rejection is coming soon?

I got an interview invite here with high stats a while ago and I'm amazed by what stats they are rejecting! I think schools are very much wise to the fact that stats are not the whole story. As for what could set me apart? Well I'm born and raised in boston, worked in many different areas of town, and I'm non trad with deep roots in the area. Maybe it's regional preference? In this process I'm feeling like schools take interest in the candidates that will most likely thrive in that environment. I've thrived here and I believe I would continue doing so as a med student. As a side note, I've got a feeling that a lot of the other schools have "rejected" just as many incredible candidates without sending a courteous e-mail letting them know - so this just might be perceived as harsh when it's actually happening more than we even know. This sort of ups my respect for BU more.

anyways stay positive and best of luck! :luck::luck:

I'm from Seattle so the complete opposite side of the US. Really don't know what BU is looking at. ORM. Average GPA with slightly above average MCAT. Decent to strong ECAs. Wrote about diversity in my optional essay. I'm glad that they look at the whole picture though and pretty excited for an interview here.

Can you tell me what ORM stands for? just trying to keep up with the acronyms.

I got an II a while ago with a 3.6/34. I have a slightly below average GPA and an above average MCAT but I've seen that a ton of people with really high stats got rejected so here's my 2 cents...

Personally, I think what "set me apart" was my LORs. I go to a top USNews undergrad and I believe I played the prestige card very well. I got a LOR from 2 infamously harsh professors at my school (worked my butt off for an A in their classes). They basically straight up told me that all they are going to write on my letter is that they believe their class is the hardest class at "x" school and that "x" school is the most competitive school to get A's in so if I could succeed in their class, then I should have no problem handling the rigor of med school. They obviously have highly biased opinions of their class and the school but hey, it works. Then I got a LOR from a community volunteering supervisor and a LOR from a clinical volunteering supervisor, both of which I believe are stellar. I founded and served as president of the community service group since freshman year of college and the LOR writer even let me read her letter before she submitted. For my clinical volunteering group, I'd also been volunteering since beginning of college and my supervisor has observed >400 hours of my volunteering.

All in all, I believe my LORs set me apart. The 2 academic LORs stated that I can handle med school and the 2 volunteering LORs showed my personal qualities. Then, the committee letter summed everything up and hyped up the rigor of my undergrad even more.

Over-represented minority. In other words, Asian or white.

We have such similar stats, but you have so many more IIs! I'm jelly. 😳

I'm guessing Overrepresented in Medicine. As opposed to URM, which is Underrepresented in Medicine.

I, too, have a feeling my LOR's set me apart but for a very different reason. I go to a small liberal arts school that's not well known. The academics are challenging, but the size means you are able to know your professors very well. Of my 6 letters, I was on a first name basis with three of them: two of my professors and my coach. My coach and one of the professors wanted to share their letters with me after submission and I was touched my their sincerity and depth. My professor's letter was three pages long! If not my EC's then those letters made the difference.

Did everyone just get the email about status updates being available through texts now? It says that new information regarding my application is available on the site, but I went there and can't see anything new. My status still just says "application complete". So is the new info just about the text alerts?

Yes, I would assume so due to the subject line of the email!

Yeah that kind of confused me too. I think all they are saying is you can get updates through email.. gave me a heart attack for nothing :nono:

Didn't get the email 😕 hope that doesn't mean my application has gone to the paper shredder :scared:

Nope I don't have a II.

Wellllllllll.... Poop.
Maybe they're just sending out the email in batches?!?!
Meanwhile I hold onto my "complete" status for dear life while bracing myself for the imminent rejection...

 This made me laugh because it's pretty much where I'm at right now.

Yeah I think it is being set out in batches, since I just got that email today.
