2013-2014 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rejected today, was complete in late September. 32 3.6, OOS- it was a long shot so I'm flattered I was under consideration for a while. Good luck everyone!

Can any current students comment on the wait list movement from recent years? I tried to surmise from previous year threads, but its hard to establish any kind of context. Thanks in advance!

It looks like last year had some movement. Hopefully it's the same for this year?

I have been having trouble accessing the site for Dartmouth in order to check my status. Is anyone else experiencing this difficulty??

I just want to check my status since I haven't heard anything since my interview in December. UGH :nailbiting:

The site won't load for me either - I just get a blank page, no login screen. But, for what it's worth, I'm pretty sure the secondary app never updates post-completion. It didn't change when I received my II or my acceptance, if memory serves. It could be different for the waitlist (if there is such a thing), but Geisel acceptance notifications come by email with a snail mail hard-copy sent a few days later.

Good luck!

Yeah I don't think the status page changes after submitting your secondary

There was a notice on the site last week about their admissions portal undergoing maintenance. And like the others have said, there are no changes to the status page after secondary and LORs.

Thanks guys I figured as much. Good to know about the maintenance.

This process is improving my patience haha

Rejection finally, pre-II, good luck you guys!
34/3.8/OOS

II this morning too, complete in August! Can anyone comment if we will be interviewing for a spot in the class or the waitlist? Would love to interview if it's for a real spot, but I'd be coming from the Pacific Northwest so I don't want to waste a bunch of money if we really have no shot.

You look like a bird.

(also, since they use a scoring system, you could very well end up with a post interview score high enough to gain an auto acceptance. if you believe youre a strong candidate vs an average one, you should definitely make the trip, especially if you would prefer to attend this school over another)

Does Dartmouth send a post-interview decision immediately after it is made, whether it is acceptance, waitlist, or rejection? Or do they wait to notify applicants of waitlist and/or rejection decisions? i.e. is no news for an extended period of time necessarily bad news?

They hold to the "no news is good news" idea. You get immediate notified of acceptance if youre in the top scoring bracket, rejection if youre in the bottom scoring bracket, and no news if youre in the middle. At least thats how I understand it from what they explained at my interview day. I interviewed in mid-September with no news since then; I believe that indicates my overwhelmingly average post-interview score.

It hasn't been very long since my interview (3rd week Feb), so I don't expect to hear back yet, but I feel like I am in the same boat as you, my friend. Good luck.

On the same boat as you guys. Have been waiting for a decision since my interview in mid-December. I'm just confused because, since they have been waitlisting people (who I assume are also average), not hearing back could mean that we're either above that group and they don't know whether to accept or waitlist us, or that we are below that group and they don't know whether to waitlist or reject us. Lol as you may tell, I've given a lot of thought to this. Best of luck to all of you.

Same position as you woot mid-December interviews

I think wait listed people have all interviewed pretty early in the season so maybe they haven't gone back to you guys yet?

I think it may also depend when you come up in the committee discussions, which doesn't seem to be chronological based on interview. It's possible that they haven't discussed your application yet, in which case they don't have a score for you yet.

I saw that some other people also mentioned this randomization so I guess this is possible, but it was my understanding from what they said during interview day that they meet on a regular basis and rank applicants as they interview, so I'm confused.

sourdoughllama, I did see posts of other people who interviewed after I did and were waitlisted, so I don't think the silence is because they are still reviewing files of those who interviewed before December.

I agree. I've seen people before and after my Sept. interview that have gotten rejected, waitlisted, and accepted... I'm pretty sure I've been ranked, but I'm probably so close to the middle that it's just a waiting game to see if the acceptance cutoff reaches me before the rejection does.

Have there been any post interview rejections?

If it helps, I interviewed mid-December and got a response during the second week of February. I believe that they were true to their word when they said they rank students numerically and that timing of a final response is solely dependent upon where one stands on the list

Taking a break from my Costa-Rica-based fast from SDN to post that I was invited to interview at Geisel this morning. A few interview spots remain. Good luck to all those still waiting.

I'll be in Hanover in mid-March.

Got a large envelope from Geisel today, containing the Winter '14 edition of Dartmouth Medicine. Putting this out there so other accepted applicants don't get excited, thinking it's a money package or anything.

Ah, my mistake! Hopefully Harvard decided to accept a lot of people who hold acceptances here...hahaha

I got it yesterday thinking it was my waitlist letter from Columbia lol.

Nevermind. It was a mistake on Dartmouth's part. Oh well...I guess I'm still waiting....

What did they send to you? "JK! No but really delete that last email and don't tell anyone..."

Is anyone interviewing on March 18th and would like to split a double queen room at the Six South Hotel for two nights (Mar. 17th-19th)? It would be the same price (~$75/night) as getting your own room at the Days Inn in Lebanon, but it would reduce travel time by a lot, especially with the travel worries in this snow.

Male interviewee, PM me if interested.

Rejected today pre-interview. I feel like a cheap date for being strung along like this for a half-year then getting dumped.
You've got some great other acceptances lol so don't feel bad ( 😍drooling over your Vandy acceptance)

was anyone able to get ahold of a student host, so far I've gotten no response? I just scheduled my interview for next week and I'd rather not pay for a hotel, the plane ticket was really expensive

I've contacted 4 and they all haven't been able to. One mentioned they have exams during that time, so I'll probably end up in a hotel.

Got a waitlist e-mail today. Interviewed 1/30.

Interesting, since I saw a few of you who interviewed before me haven't heard back yet...happy to know my status by it just seems weird since I figured their ranking system would notify people of acceptances and rejections first before waitlists. I must have ranked somewhere so in the middle post-interview that its safe to say I was a waitlist candidate lol. Anyways! Just sharing 🙂
