9/4 interview finished.
Had a blast, although I realized I could have answered the ethical questions so much better, but I hope I made a good positive impression. Interview was short (30 min) instead of 45 min so hopefully it is not a big deal.
Surprisingly so many OOS people(I met only 2 IS out of 50+) interviewed in the morning.
I felt similarly about my answers to the ethical questions asked--one question in particular I know I could've answered better (although I did give an okay answer, I think)...I just hadn't expected the question to be asked that particular way & the answer I think they were looking for really wouldn't have been the solution at my undergrad (it was a question about underage intoxication & the role of an RA...and the answer really depends on how your particular college handles underage intoxication).
My interview was one of the longer ones (45 mins; I barely made it back to the atrium in time before we were herded to the info session
😳)...but that was likely because I asked my interviewers 3 detailed questions at the end + our whole conversation wasn't just me talking the whole time (both of my interviewers did their fair share of talking...it was definitely more of a conversation than a q&a session).
I know, right?!? I was not expecting that many other OOS people...
Same here. I met people from Arizona, New York (that kid had 8 IIs), Arizona, New Jersey, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, California, New Mexico, and Michigan. I don't think I met two ppl from the same state. So much diversity.
Wow! What time was your interview?
I guess I didn't chat up too many of the other interviewees...I was busy doing some last-minute read-overs of some of my materials before the financial aid session and was only half-paying attention to the conversations around me.
Nice interviewing day. The interviewers I had were very nice, it is around 30 minutes and you get to talk to two doctors about yourself and your experiences. The ethics questions were not loaded and were very clear. They just want to see if you are a well adjusted person in these interviews so don't worry, and don't study for these interviews like a maniac.
Agreed (although my interview went over and was 45 minutes). I don't know about you, but my ethical questions were directly based on my experiences--which was both good and bad (I was expecting the typical blood transfusion/organ transplant questions and had answers prepared for those types of questions...and at the same time, having questions directly relating to my app helped because I usually had an experience to fall back on and talk about for my answer--or had enough background knowledge to answer the question completely hypothetically.)
it seems like 9/4 was like the OOS day or something. I interviewed at a smaller campus and everybody was OOS.
my interview was interesting though. i was asked like 2 questions about my application and the rest was all about ethics and modern issues in medicine. anybody else have a similar experience?
I interviewed at Indy, and my questions were all directly related to my application--whether they were asking about my volunteering or whether they were asking an ethical question based on my time as an RA in my dorm.
Has anyone that received an II around 8/16 had any further communication from them (e.g. date of interview)?
Also, I mailed in my forms on 8/17 and still none have been marked received. My letters of rec don't seem to have been received either.
It took them about a month to get back to me about a date, so I wouldn't worry yet at all. They have a lot of people they're communicating with and/or interviewing.
As others have said, be patient--it took them three weeks to mark two of my forms as received, and the last form wasn't marked received til the Friday before my interview that following Wednesday.
