2013-2014 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also II!

Anyone know what time of day the interview starts? I have a 8pm final on the west coast the day before an available date, and trying to see if I can somehow make it the next day...

Everyone moves up to the conference room at 9:45AM EST. For the record, I flew out from LAX at 9PM and got there at 6AM.

Congrats! Were you also complete in early September?

Sounds like I'd be cutting it too close. My final ends at 10pm.

Edit: yeah, it looks like I wouldn't be able to make it according to flight details. I'm going to have to schedule my interview for January.

Yeah, 9/10ish I believe.

Congrats everyone with recent II's!! Just wondering are you IS or OOS?

II!! complete 8/29 OOS

Connection (Father went here for M.D. program). *Don't really know if that counts as a connection*

For those with recent II's. Do you mind sharing stats?

II 🙂

Complete Aug. 29th
OOS/ ~3.7c/ ~3.6s/ 31-34 range

Congrats!!!! Kind of a bad news for us late August peeps tho .

Seriously though. My heart breaks a little bit every time a round of IIs come through that were complete after me and have similar stats 🙁

However- Congrats and good luck to everyone with IIs!!

Would you mind sharing your update? Or at least what kind of update?

Recently accepted publication, update with current job, new volunteer position and to be submitted abstracts (from current job)

Withdrew from both Boston and Maine tracks!

Hope that some of you wonderful SDN people get my interviews!

This should open up 11/14 and 11/15 for Boston and Tufts respectively (I assume)

I just did the same! Did you email the admissions committee in addition to withdrawing from the secondary website? And congrats on your acceptance! 🙂

Thanks adjective! I did not email them because they had the option to withdraw on the site. For the schools I'm withdrawing from that don't have that option I plan to email.

II earlier today. Complete 9/5. Soonest open slots are in January 😱

Does anyone (possibly from past cycles) have any experience with or information on the "deferred decision"? Is there a good chance that this becomes an acceptance or waitlist? Or just as good of a chance of getting a rejection?

I am interested in this also, I was deferred.

I was deferred last time I applied on the Maine track. Never received acceptance. And to be honest I think deferred is just a nicer way of them saying "wait list" even though they make the point to say its not. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they don't even have a wait list category. So it's either acceptance, deferred, or rejection.... You interpret it as you like

How quickly have people been getting their notifications after interviews?

I REALLY hope not...I submitted secondary 09/15 but MCAT retake scores came back 10/15. I must be soooo effff'ed.....🙁

So Tufts goes in order in terms of date of completion?

Does Tufts do silent rejections? Was complete mid-July 🙁

Bump!

I was complete 7/23, is it basically a lost cause at this point? Is there anything I can do to help my chances of getting an interview?

It seems like Tufts wants 31 and up. I have a 30 (12,9, 9) but a very high GPA any chance of an ill?

I was deferred last cycle. I interviewed February, was deferred in March, and waitlisted in June. Last year's class was unusually full and there was basically NO waitlist movement, which is unusual, so I was rejected in August. I believe that people can go from deferred to accepted without being waitlisted and that usually there is actual waitlist movement most years. Basically, being deferred is not the kiss of death!

Any idea how often Tufts sends out decisions?

I was complete 7/29 and nothing. I have 3 interviews in the area in November and sent the admissions staff an email. They responded a few days later explicitly stating that they could do nothing to accommodate me since they have not extended an ii and that they review applications in the order that they are received, no exceptions. So, it is my opinion that they do silent rejections, and if you were completed significantly earlier than these folks getting ii's now, then you aren't going to be offered one🙁

On that note, I am very much looking forward to my BU visit and the Sox smashing the Cardinals in the WS!!!!😀

Welp, I guess that's it for me then

Did anyone here apply MD/MBA and get an interview invitation?
If so, when was your application complete?

Oh word? Thats GG for me too then.

does tufts do silent rejections?

to those of you stressing about silent rejections...

Tufts does review apps in the order received; however, if you don't make the cut at your initial review, they hold your application for later. Dean Neumeyer explained this to our class in person, and it is also on the Tufts website: "All complete applications remain under active consideration for an interview until the end of February. Letters of regret are sent in March to applicants who were not selected for an interview"

so, it's not over til it's over...

Thanks for easing my fears a bit.

However ... does Tufts send out ANY rejections before March? I guess not?

I applied to the MD/MBA program. My secondary application was complete 7/25 and I interviewed 9/26. Dr. Jabre is so in tune with fiscal medicine it's ridiculous. I really enjoyed his presentation.

Its about once a month or a little more than a month. They have monthly committee meetings to discuss that month's interviews, as well as deferred applicants, then send out a batch of acceptances.

That doesn't bode well for me. I was complete three days after you and have heard nothing. I was hoping for a different answer involving something about the MD/MBA app taking longer...

Thanks for replying

I applied MD/MA. I havent gotten an interview either. But I also haven't completed the MA app. Does anyone know if that matters?

I interviewed here, and from what I understand, they don't even consider your MA/MBA/MPH status until AFTER you've already been admitted to the regular MD program. Whether you expressed interest in applying as a MD/Masters applicant (completed optional program secondary or not) should have no bearing on their decision to extend an II.

I am not sure if the same applies for MD/PhD or the Maine track (I'm fairly certain they are the only ones whose apps are looked at differently).

I just rescheduled my December 12th interview so there's a slot open on that date if anyone is looking to move up
