2013-2014 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
why is tulane not on us news and world report med school rankings?

Because when US News and World Report asked for the data to include them in the rankings, Tulane said no thanks. Been that way for several years.

For those of you who have interview invites or were rejected, are you saying you were complete the day you submitted your secondary? Or do you mean after you got an email from Tulane saying you are complete and under review? Because I submitted my secondary at least 3 weeks ago (my letters and stuff were already all in) and just got a confirmation email now that I am complete and under review.

Basically what was the timeline between your submission, completion email, and rejection/interview response?

I was complete and under review the day my committee letter was uploaded on August 16th (I had already completed my secondary app). II on Sept. 23rd.

I submitted my secondary on September 9, but my committee LOR was not uploaded until September 24. I did not get the complete email until October 1. Still waiting on II/reject.

Submitted back in August, but wasn't complete until 9/12, the day after my MCAT score was released. So it has been around 1 month and a week, and I have yet to hear back from them.

Can any current students talk about what areas students generally live in?

people live all over, but mostly in Uptown, near the undergrad campus. There's a lot in the Saulet, a condo complex in the Lower Garden District, and a good number in buildings around the hospital in the CBD like 1201 Canal and The Saratoga. There's a lot of lofts and condos in the warehouse district.

Big piece of advice though, come up with a list of places, and come down for a weekend to see where they all are. The city varies from block to block, especially north of St. Charles, and in the Lower Garden District. I found a lot of places on craigslist and then when I went and looked at where they were they were all in sketchy areas.

Silence on my end, interviewed 9/16. Anyone else in the same boat?

Accepted by email just now!!!! I interviewed 9/23. This school had the best students, among many other more academic things🙂

So happy!

Me too! I think we interviewed together too. 🙂

Really? Why do you think that! 9/20?

And thanks, Amygdarya & RocDiva! I don't really have a first choice, but it's definitely one of my top 🙂 Now let's just hope I can figure out the $$$...

I hate to be the one to ask this...but have they started giving out "waitlist"/rejections yet?

Interviewed 9/23. Thought it went pretty well. Silence on my end.

Might just be grasping at straws here, but I noticed that in previous years, a fair number of early interviewees diddn't hear anything the first day the acceptances went out, but were accepted a few days or weeks later. So hopefully that's the case for us in the throes of no-news anxiety!

Angst01, whether or not you are correct I thank you for making me just a little bit less stressed out. Hopefully you're correct, I loved Tulane when I visited.

Well shoot suuhhn you makin me blush. Welcome to Tulane 🙂!

I would like everyone worried about not hearing today to calm down. As you may recall, we are using a new electronic admissions file system this year for the first time. Some of us have more time, or are faster at navigating it or have more experience evaluating applicants than others. Depending on who your file gets assigned to, it may take a little longer to hear back. Everyone gets a good, fair lookover and has equal chance at getting in (we are scarily consistent in our decisions 😀).
Sit tight and try to have fun with real life things in the meantime.

Anyone have a guess on if there will be anymore interview invites considering they were already in mid Jan last batch? If so any guess when? I was only complete a smidge ago and I'm super bummed i may have missed my chance. I love New Orleans and I made sure to talk about the city in my why Tulane essay, but its hard to say too much in just 150 words :-(.

Congratulations to all the acceptances lately!!

Thanks Tatastrophy! I really appreciate your letting us know that. I'll do my best to hang tight and hope for good news. Much love for Tulane.

Waitlisted as well. Trying to be positive, at least I didn't get a non-acceptance! Hopefully there's some turn around on the waitlist this year, Tulane is still my first choice.

For anyone who cares, I interviewed on 9/16, and was complete in July.

Acceptance range waitlist! Being that Tulane is my only option, would a student at Tulane mind giving us the rundown of how this works and what our chances are? From the e-mail, it seems like this is not the same kind of traditional ranked waitlist that other schools have. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I think the old 2012-2013 thread is still around in this forum; you could read the last few pages of that and let us know what happened.

I am a Tulane student, but I have no idea how our wait lists work or what the odds are of getting off of it.

They told me that the current MS1 class was entirely filled before they took anyone off the waitlist. Apparently they gave out too many acceptances last year and had to increase the class size by a few students. I don't know if they're planning on keeping things the same for you guys or if they will hand out less acceptances early on and take more off the waitlist.

Rejected post-secondary :\ Completed 10/3 (or actually earlier...confused by my own notes)
These rejections are not easy in light of not having received any IIs yet. But this school probably saw thru my generic secondary response for why I wanted to attend their school. sigh

😱 I was complete 10/7, I am expecting to join you soon. Best of luck at other schools.

Complete 9/23, and nothing. I thought I was a good fit too. 😳
If you haven't been rejected yet then its a good sign. I remember Tulane kept many people on the hook for a long time before giving them late interviews in the last cycle.

Rejected post-secondary today 🙁 Complete early September. Really bummed because this was my first choice OOS school. Good luck to everyone else!

Sorry to hear this. I've been complete since 9/12 and still nothing. It doesn't sound like Tulane does silent holds though, so maybe it's not a bad thing if I haven't heard back yet?

Does anyone know if Tulane is receptive to adding a letter to your application? I just received an LOR that I believe could add to my application

I know that Tulane emails the applicant the exact date they want you to interview. So, maybe they just haven't decided a time for some applicants yet. It is still early in the cycle and I think that no news is definitely good news for Tulane. Remember that it isn't over until you get that rejection letter.
