2013-2014 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For anyone accepted already, did they already send out information regarding Second-look? I'm wondering if I may have misplaced a paper about it that came in the acceptance packet.

As they are still interviewing through March, and the fact that their Second Look is relatively late (April 24-26th I believe), it'll probably be a few more weeks before we get info. 🙂

In addition to this, if I remember correctly, on my interview day we were told that we'd hear something before mid-April. By AAMC traffic rules, each school has to offer enough acceptances to fill up a class by March 15th; considering that most schools overaccept, it's quite possible that even if WashU gives out 124 acceptances by March 15th, there may still be outright acceptances (i.e. not from waitlist) even after March 15th.

According to the UMiami Dean of Admissions schools aren't allowed to accept more than the seats they have. The statistics which show over acceptance is after factoring in wait list acceptances.... But Idk, maybe someone could shed further light on this

Traffic rule #4

4. By March 30 of the matriculation year, March 15 for M.D.-Ph.D. programs, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services.

Hmm.

Oh, it's by March 30, not even March 15 for MD only. I stand corrected 🙂

You see: "...a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students..." - so schools are not limited to accepting only up to the number of seat in class. I understand what you're saying about acceptances from waitlist figuring into the total acceptances number, but I've heard - in fact, @LizzyM wrote it somewhere recently - that at least some schools offer more *outright acceptances* than seats in class. I understand that it may seem strange to you - I was surprised to read it myself - but that's what at least some schools do and, according to AAMC traffic rules, they have a perfect right to do.
Now, UMiami may not do this, but, according to LizzyM, at least some schools so.

Upd: Here is her post (Re: someone who got several acceptances, whether (s)he should start withdrawing or not):
Many schools make offers to more than twice as many applicants as they can accommodate. You and 100+ others may have to withdraw before someone on the waitlist gets the nod. Still, if you've made up your mind, it is thoughtful of you to withdraw. Yet, how can you make up your mind without a clear idea of the financial aid packages that will come your way. And note, you may get more generous offers if a school sees that you currently hold several offers.

I originally thought as such, but then UMiami made me doubt myself and now I'm back. Full circle lol, awesome

Many schools have around 1/3 to 1/2 matriculation:acceptance ratio (ex. WashU) , so I'm pretty sure they will over-accept to compensate.

is there a Facebook page for accepted students? can someone please link me if there is one.

In the past this has been sent out with an invitation to Second Look, but if anyone else knows about it already please correct me!

WashU would be right to sue the pants off these people.

Do they go up every friday?

Do they go up every friday?

I think second half of the season it's been pretty consistently every other Friday night at 12 am CST (so 1 am for me on the east coast). Last batch was two weeks ago, so hopefully tonight!

I feel this odd sense of comfort knowing I'm not alone in anxiety

Haha 45 minutes from D-day. Do they send all accepted applicants a "Status Change" email at midnight?

Edit: Whoops, my bad. 1 hr and 45 minutes. Darnit! One more hour

It's actually an hour longer (St. Louis is on Central Time).

You see guys, I'm staying up rooting for you 🙂 (And I can't believe that some SDNers haven't been accepted to WashU yet!)

I'm not trying to be a downer here but at my interview (in feb) the dean made it seem like the adcom was meeting once in mid feb and all other decisions will be going out on april. Is that not the case anymore?

Any recent news regarding the merit scholarships (excluding the Olin Women Fellowship)?

Time will tell

I just realized that this date last year was when they started waitlisting people (although it wasn't on Friday). Well, 5 more minutes!

(hope I didn't give anyone a heart attack there with my post)

Edit: Nothing here 🙁

Can you imagine going through this process again in 4 years? 😀

Except residency programs tell everyone on the same Match Day and you don't check a portal for six months. If only...
True. Though there is still plenty of anxiety in non-rolling school threads (which in part stems from not knowing the D date for some schools, I concur). But I rather meant the whole process of pouring your heart and a ton of hard work into your application, stressing out about interviews and then spending several months anxiously waiting for a decision that will affect the rest of your life.
Anyway, see y'all in 4 years 😉

I emailed my interviewer and all I got was that we'd all know by April 15... but I think we already knew that.

Honestly im glad its on friday nights. I cant worry if im out.

No one has heard anything the last few Fridays...??
