2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I could be wrong, but potentially something worth noting: since this is the first year for MMIs, there were/will be likely more IIs given out this application season compared to MSAR's data, because MMIs allow for more interview slots (quicker, numerical score, fewer interviewers needed for shorter time period). I think this will probably lower their post-interview success rate, unfortunately :/

Alternate list today. Interviewed Dec 15th, post-interview hold Jan 15.

Just got an email to tell me I have been placed on the alternate list after I've been put as "on hold" post interview in December. :/
Anyone knows how much of the alternate list ultimately get accepted? And when do we actually get movement from the list?

Wow fast turnaround....
That's what I thought! At my interview they told us we would definitely hear back within 4-6 weeks, but that it could be sooner because we're getting to the end of the season.

Any March 30th interviewees?

If anyone needs a ride from O'Hare I'm driving up Sunday night in a rental

Super excited for interview but nervous with a 3.4 cGPA and 34 MCAT :nailbiting:

Congratulations! Would you mind sharing you stats? Thanks!

Thank you!

Of course! They're not the greatest, so maybe this will spark some hope for everyone else. 😛

sGPA: 3.7
GPA: 3.4
MCAT: 28

I have a good amount of EC's including research and community programs that I've been involved in for a couple years. However, I felt my interview held the most influence on my application. Hope this helps!

Alternate list a few days ago, pretty bummed considering I thought this was my strongest mmi. Stats are 3.66/30 and I interviewed on 2/4. One thing I'm curious about is the fact that I was one of two individuals in my group to interview that weren't bms students. It seemed the majority of interviewees were bms students so I'm wondering if that affected the acceptance rate that particular day (or I'm just way over thinking it haha)

Hmm, during my interview day there were very few bms students. I guess it changes every interview day. But good luck I'm sure you have a great shot with stats like that. Maybe they are saving people who they think might attend for later, when the national acceptance/waitlist reports come in and they can see who is likely to attend.

Silence since August :/ really want to call and ask about my status but the complete email asks applicants not to 🙁

My interview day only had about a handful of BMS as well. But nonetheless, I'd think the amount of BMS students they accept every year stays fairly consistent.

Sounds like the turnaround is faster than they thought it'd be. Hopefully the 2/13 date will hear back soon!

There is no quota for any particular day.

It moves, though only the admissions committee knows how much. It can move any time between now and August; one person was accepted the day before school started during my first year.

Don't. I was silent since September and got an II a few weeks ago.

Send over your email address in a PM and I'll be happy to direct you to someone who lived in the city during m1 and m2 years.

Hi @tantacles,

would I also be able to PM you my email? I also think I might want to live closer to the city.

thank you so much 🙂

Also accepted. Three week turn around time from the ad-com. Props to them. Loved the MMI setup, had a blast tackling the questions; apparently that translated.

GPA: 3.6
sGPA: 3.7
MCAT: 33

I was rejected on 2/17 after being complete late August. They said they would let me know of a status after 8-10 weeks, but this has been my 1st communication from them since August. OOS 3.90GPA/31+MCAT.

"Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. We have carefully evaluated your application, and I regret to inform you that the Admissions Committee is unable to offer you a seat in our incoming class.

We expect to receive over 12,000 applications for fewer than 200 seats in our class. A s a result, we are unable to offer admission to many qualified applicants. Should you wish to reapply next application cycle, we would welcome your application.

We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors, and we thank you for your interest in Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.

Sincerely,
John Tomkowiak, MD, MOL
Dean
Chicago Medical School"

only question I have - what is a MOL???

edited for spelling.

Any idea how soon we should expect to hear, interviewed February 20.

I think they sent an email about this to interviewees a couple days after the interview. It should be about a month to 6 weeks from email. Here is the email:

It could be sooner however. I interviewed 2/4, received the email above on 2/5, then received my acceptance email on 2/19, exactly 2 weeks later.

At my 2/13 interview they said 2-3 weeks, and that if we did not hear by then we should call.

Did you interview in the morning or afternoon? I was in the morning and they told us six weeks. But based on what others have said in here, it seems like it's closer to your estimate.

i interviewed on 12/10 and was accepted mid jan so it took about 5 weeks with all the holidays in between

I was also morning, the director of admissions (the lawyer who spoke to us in the morning) mentioned the 2-3 weeks right before we went to eat lunch.

Interviewed 2/13 pm. I believe they said 4-6 weeks, but really more likely 2-3, depending on their load. So maybe we'll hear back from them as soon as this Friday. Maybe..

Did anyone check out student housing while on the interview? Were the rooms big?

As a student, here is my perspective: student housing is nice with 2 bed 2 bath and 1 bed 1 bath apartments. If you plan to get a 1 bed 1 bath, pricing is similar everywhere. If you plan to get a 2 bedroom, there are cheaper options. I lived in a 2 bedroom at woodlands (ALSO NEXT DOOR TO THE SCHOOL) for $1200 total while school 2 bedrooms were $1700 total. Navy housing (open to ALL civilians) is a viable and even cheaper option if you're willing to drive a minute or two to go to campus each morning (or if you don't plan to go to class.

TL;DR: live off campus.

Was rosalind interviewing when LCME was coming there?

What do you mean?
Sorry just needed to clarify, during interview day, they said that they were sorting out things while they waited for the LCME to come there and while they were there. Did they interview during this time frame, since it seems as though they are interviewing quite late into the cycle.

I don't understand the question completely, but the LCME came around January, and we interview before and after that.

I left feeling like 2-3 of my MMIs went horribly! Anyone else feel like this and still get accepted
I completely bumbled through one without ever reaching a coherent answer, and in another the interviewer seemed to challenge everything I said and I left feeling like I totally blew it. The rest seemed to go pretty well, overall I felt pretty good, and I ended up getting accepted.

I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you think! Adcoms here always seem to say that interviewees never really have a good idea of how their interview went.

Hey honestly, your feeling does not have much to do with it. Most of the time MMI just wants to see if you can think a question through and arrive at the answer (whether right or wrong), not really if you reach a correct solution. This is the intended purpose of the MMI. Of course you can't say I want to murder people at the MMI, and those are obviously wrong answers. As long as they see you tinkering I think you are good. Does anyone know if they drop the highest and lowest station score like in the Canadian system?
