2014-2015 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I emailed dean Ratts with my update, because on my interview day she said we could email updates to her. Haven't gotten a response yet though 🙁 (emailed it on Sunday I think) was that the wrong way to go?
I'm a little intimidated to email the Dean about an update. I did cc it to my open file interviewer.

Considering I have not had the chance to meet Dean Ratts, I would not know. I just know my update was processed within a week or so through the main email.

Uh Oh. I guess I'll just wait and see what happens!

II yesterday for me as well! Had pretty much given up on any more IIs at this point in the cycle, so super psyched!
Another pleasantly surprised (and totally thrilled) applicant in the New Arctic--II practically had me swooning! I thought everyone who had not yet noticed me had decided against me, and I'm glad to have a chance here!

Is anyone here planning on applying to the Olin Fellowship? The idea of paying for med school is starting to be really scary but I'm not exactly super excited about writing another essay....

I started the application.
Am planning on finishing it. Hopefully maybe.

Can you apply to the Olin Fellowship if you haven't been admitted by the due date? I thought I saw somewhere that you had to have been admitted already, but I thought I would check just in case

Hey BB - Congrats! (apart from your stats, I am sure) you got an II just for being nice here to all on this board.
Good Luck on the interview!

(you might have done this earlier, but if you don't mind what are your stats please? i see you are OOS)

Aw, shucks, @researchoped. You shorely do know how to make a gal feel finer 'n a frog hair split eight ways! Thank you for your kind words.

My stats are 37. . .oh, wait. THOSE stats! 😉 If I am calculating correctly, my LizzyM is in the 75 neighborhood. I'm a kinda oddball candidate, though, because 1) I was not a premed or science major, 2) my highest MCAT score was the verbal one, and 3) I took two "gap years" after graduation to work in health-related fields (but not hospitals or clinics.) My research experience is not outstanding either, though I am grateful that I was able to get some. So this II really did take me by surprise--I didn't think WUSM would glance twice in my direction. Maybe the holiday jollified somebody on the committee! Good luck to you as you pursue your dream!

I was about to say 'that's a good start', but then read the rest of the message 😉 Sounds cool..... good luck with your interviews as well. I am sure you will do great, and, thanks BB.

Edit: question was answered. Thanks 🙂

They got an acceptance call, so they've already interviewed.
Yes,@Abstractions, I got that! 😀 My post touched on two separate topics--1) extending congratulations to those accepted AND 2) asking when anyone on the thread might be interviewing. Sorry to be confusing. (But it did give me a chance to congratulate the Innies again!!)

So has the pattern been a 3-4 week turnaround time from interview to decision?

Welp that's embarrassing 🙁, It really was a fluke that I made it through the VR section on the MCAT in one piece 😀
Hope I didn't sound like an English teacher! Yikes!! All is well, and tone just never comes across well in writing!!

Seems like it, although when I interviewed in early december (MSTP), they mentioned that decisions might be delayed a bit due to adcom meetings being delayed due to holidays. Crossed fingers for myself and everyone else waiting for (good) admissions news!

P.S. @BengaliBrat I find you absolutely hilarious. I've enjoyed all of your posts on this thread!

I'm interviewing on Friday, and I'm arriving in St. Louis tomorrow afternoon and leaving on Saturday afternoon. That's a lot of free time. PM me if any of you want a travel buddy to hang out with!

Congratulations to the recent acceptancees. I see you @Avocado8 😉! Just want to say that my portal did not change until I sent back the signed papers accepting the seat and the only change was on the "Home" tab which shows "congratulations".

Do any accepted applicants have the dates for second look yet?

Congrats to those who were accepted. Does this mean that there won't be any calls going out at the end of this week?

Just got the call and I AM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats I got a 01-09-15 and still no email or letter. My app status hasnt changed yet either. When did you recieve notice after the phone call?

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview?

It won't change until they receive your returned form to accept the seat in the mail.

Current M1, and St. Louis native if anyone has any questions about wusm or the area!

How safe would you say the area surrounding Central West End is? And downtown St. Louis at night?

How affordable is housing close to the medical school, i.e. around how much are most students paying for rent?

Thanks a lot for doing this!

CWE is fairly safe. I've never felt concerned while walking around.

I live two blocks from the hospital and am paying $625, and I live w/ one roommate. Studios and one BR apartments may be a little more expensive, depending on the location. You can definitely pay less than $600 if you look outside of the CWE, i.e. The Grove, DeBaliviere, etc...
