Any idea if all of the merit aid has already been offered or do they disburse it more as April 30th slowly approaches?

I know that last year some people who were taken off the waitlist in May received a merit scholarship (full tuition), so I'd assume they're not all given out at this point.

That seems REALLY weird. I would imagine that if a scholarship was denied it would go to someone already accepted. Interesting.

Merit awards serve a school's recruitment purpose. Schools use it to secure the best candidates whenever needed. Whether it's to get the students before April 30th or to get someone off the waitlist, as long as there is a need to use the funding, it's all fair game. Need awards are distributed to all students according to need in a consistent manner.
Here is the thing, WUSM's average debt is below $90k (which is a lot lower than schools that are famous for giving out tons of merit awards like Vandy and Penn), although we would not know how many merit awards are given out in a year, but judging from the low debt, there are probably quite a lot of them.

At my interview they said 14-15 full awards (some are cut into halves) are give out. Also, a couple women get the Olin fellowship that is full tuition as well. They also seemed to be very generous with need-based aid, even for those higher middle income EFCs.

Sometimes half (or even a 25%) merit awards will be enough to cover the entire tuition when combined with need award, since the policy was that merit awards always replace loan first.

Last year, I was accepted late November, but didn't get my full-scholarship offer until May 5th! So, the offer could come pretty late even when not accepted from waitlist.

Does anyone know when things get started for second look? I am trying to plan my flights accordingly. Also, will it be an option to stay in Olin Hall or something for free or should we book our own lodgings?

In the past, the school has paid for lodging for all second lookers in the Parkway Hotel which is adjacent to the medical center. The MD only applicants, for the most part, are still responsible for travel costs, but lodging was covered. At least it was 5 years ago and I don't that has changed. 🙂

Is there a Facebook group for admitted students here? I didn't get anything in my acceptance packet mentioning it but it seems like most schools have one.

Anyone interviewed in or before November and haven't heard back yet? And are there specific dates they release decisions? Thanks!

I heard back on a Saturday late afternoon while my friend did on a weekday. So I'm not sure there is a specific date. Judging from the low number of the member on the FB group, there should be plenty of acceptances going out. Someone interviewed on the same day with me did not hear back until a month later. So there is not a pattern nor an order to this that we can tell. As many posts previously have stressed, this year the admission offer will be going out slowly throughout April per new dean of admission Dr. Ratts.

Oh gotcha, thanks!!

If you don't mind me asking, how many members are in that group? Thanks.

To everyone else who has been accepted so far: the form in our acceptance package that we were supposed to fill out and turn in within 2 weeks, that is non binding right??

It's non binding. That's what Dean Ratts told me in my phone call.

Awesome, thanks!
I had a mini freak out because I jay logged into the portal and it said your intent to matriculate form has been received and I was like whaaaaa!

It's interesting how many of us have the feeling that intent forms are binding. It just shows we are some honest peeps who like to think we are suppose to do what we said. Which is a good quality to have for physicians. 😉

Does anyone know about how long the turnaround time is to get a decision? Interviewed 12/16, now lying in wait.

They say at the latest it is 4/15. But I think last year, notification of waitlist went out in March. I think this year they are doing things differently, especially when considering how they are notifying individuals of acceptance.

Can anyone who is at Wash U shed light on whether or not the class is currently filled?

Radio silence since my interview on 12/1. They only just received my deans certifications 2 weeks ago though. Anyone know when they will start waitlisting/rejecting people?

@FriendlyFH I got the same email, and I was accepted in Jan/interviewed in Dec. I emailed back asking if there was something else to expect, since I already sent in my intent to matriculate form, I can update here if I hear anything back. Yay for good acceptance feelings!

Also received said email. Interviewed in October. Accepted via phone and snail mail in February. Seems like it was sent just in case your snail mail packet got lost.

If that's the case, I wonder why they emailed people who already sent in the intent to matriculate form.

Maybe it was just a delayed email or a technical issue: they accidentally emailed everybody who's been accepted, when they were only trying to start emailing the accepted applicants so they won't be walking around for a few days after the phone call questioning if the acceptance was real or if they were dreaming.

If that's the case than it's a good thing!

WashU is now the only school to tell me nothing post interview. I have no idea what this means. I'm pessimistic but hopeful...

Can anyone really be pessimistic but hopeful? That's quite the oxymoron.

I know they just finished interviews last week. Are they still waiting until April to release the majority of decisions?

I think the deadline to release decisions is March 15, according to AMCAS.
