Me too! I'm OOS and very non-trad and my AMCAS GPA is <3.4, but over 3.8 for my last 140 credits, competitive MCAT (510+), research with publications and significant presentations, medical missions abroad, lots of other volunteering. I've made it through lots of other screens already, so I'm sure I'll find a school that's a better fit for me. Good luck, everyone! That seems to make sense, both my GPAs are under 3.4. The messed up thing is, on their MSAR their 10th percentile sGPA is 3.0 and cGPA is 3.2. My GPAs were comfortably above those thresholds, so I wasn't expecting to get screened out on their account. My MCAT is well above their 90th percentile, to boot.
I think what is happening is that they're screening out OOS, non-URMs with sub 3.4 GPAs in order to make room for IS/URMs with low GPAs. I'm not saying this to complain, but simply I can't think of any other explanation for the discrepancy between their supposed screening policy and their 10th percentile GPAs.
I'm an OOS, non-URM with a cGPA of 3.32 and I got a secondary so I feel like there might be more to it? I really can't say for sure. I'm really sorry to hear about that though. I wish you the best of luck for all your other applications! That seems to make sense, both my GPAs are under 3.4. Same here on all counts!I have a cGPA < 3.4 and I got a secondary, so 3.4 cGPA can't be a cut off! I should get started working on this secondary soon...been sitting in my inbox for over a week.
Agreed...I'm also low 3.3, OOS, ORM, etc.I'm an OOS, non-URM with a cGPA of 3.32 and I got a secondary so I feel like there might be more to it? I really can't say for sure. I'm really sorry to hear about that though. I wish you the best of luck for all your other applications!
Anyone know if there is a large disadvantaged patient population near/around EVMS? For example, large proportion of patients on Medicaid, immigrants, etc. I would like to know if it is appropriate to talk about the ability to work with and serve underserved communities around EVMS as a reason for my interest in the school.
Well... the school is in Norfolk.
It's not a bad thing to talk about either way. You won't be at their school's med center forever! From your response, I 'm going to guess that Norfolk is either really affluent, or really poor/underserved. I'm going to go with the latter. Thanks for your help.
So I got a C- in one quarter of Gen Chem my first year... they keep on repeating :
"Applicants must have grades of C or better in all required courses." on website
You are required to have a grade of "C or better" in all prerequisite courses. (C- in any prerequisite course will no be accepted). on secondary
So does this mean I shouldnt submit my secondary ... ? even if my gpa and mcat are better than their averages ? Seems like a silly rule for a school with some of the lowest avg stats
Has anyone gotten any sort of verification about their secondary? I submitted mine a week or so ago and besides the email saying it was received I haven't heard anything else, and was wondering if anyone else had?
The same day. 7/21.How long after you submitted it did you get that email?

rejected pre-secondary
OOS gpa >3.4 mcat>30
🙁
EDIT: called and found out they had misread a transcript so i am back in the game. moral of the story - get secondaries or die trying.
for reference: i called and confirmed, if you have anything below a C in a pre-req, don't bother completing the secondary
What did they say to you? They told me it was fine, that I would just have to indicate I was re-taking the class. If they really won't admit anyone with a C-, I would have imagined they wouldn't have offered secondaries to those individuals (maybe wishful thinking). If not, then I'd like to know before I spend 100$ 😉
Just received an e-mail saying I was complete this morning. Here's hoping!
I'm hoping we hear something in the near future but I'm bracing myself to not hear back from some schools until sometime next year... I really hope we don't have to wait that long!Same! When do you think we will get a response back? I like how the school doesn't keep you wondering.

I submitted my secondary July 23rdFor those of you who got a complete email, when did you submit? I submitted 10 days ago and still haven't gotten one
I probably would have done the same thing 🙂 better safe than sorry, right?Ok yeah just for the sake of my neurotic mind I emailed them to make sure I wasn't missing something
For anyone who would find this useful:
Got a rejection today, pre-secondary. I'm OOS. Called and they said MCAT was too low. Mine was a 506 and their cutoff is 508.
Very easy to get a hold of admissions!
on some i was like well. that's all you're gonna get. and just submitted it LOLLLIs anyone else finding themselves writing about half the character limit for some of these essays?
Haha, same here. When I realized all I had to add was fluff, I decided to move on.on some i was like well. that's all you're gonna get. and just submitted it LOLLL
